Bertha was born on May 11, 1922 in Snedekerville, daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Laudenslager) Dean. She was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1942, and was a member of Coryland Church. Bertha was a farmer’s wife which meant she was a farmer and homemaker all in one. She enjoyed cooking, family outings, picnics, and gatherings. She was also a member of The Eastern Star.
Bertha (Dean) White Wolfe, 94, of Coryland, went to be with her Lord on September 30, 2016 from the Sayre Health Care Center in Sayre. She was the loving wife of Hugh A. White who passed away June 6, 1962 and Robert K. Wolfe who passed June 11, 2013.

Agnes Heeman, 83, former long-time resident of Alba, was called home to Heaven on Thursday afternoon, September 29, 2016 at Towanda Memorial’s Skilled Nursing Unit. Agnes Marie, “Aggie” to family and friends, was born June 20, 1933 in Towanda, a daughter of the late Edward and Goldie (Arnold) Chilson. She was raised by her foster parents, Judd and Ethel Perry. Agnes worked as a line operator for Canton Manufacturing Co. for over 30 years until retiring. A devoted and active member of the First Christian Church of Alba (Disciples of Christ), Agnes also volunteered at Canton’s Community Center, Meals on Wheels, and Clothing Center. She enjoyed many interests and talents including sewing, cooking, gardening, canning, attending church outings and bingo. Surviving are her children; Elmer T. (Janet) Walburn Jr. of Canton, Gary Walburn Sr. of East Troy, Vickie (Tom) Adams of Bentley Creek, Kathy Burbank of Wilkes-Barre and Barbara (Clayton) Heasley, Ulster; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; siblings; Phyllis Baggerly, Waverly, NY and Francis Chilson, Athens; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna Rae Ward, 73, Roaring Branch, (Union Township) passed away at home very unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, September 27, 2016. Donna Rae was born February 12, 1943 in Williamsport, one of six children of the late William and Margaret (Fiester) Stover. She was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. On April 28, 1962, Donna married Lee Ward in Williamsport. They were blessed with eight children and shared 54 years together. Times shared with her children and grandkids were most important to Donna and she was the best supporter of their many sports and activities. Donna was raised in an apartment in Williamsport, but became a farmer's wife and homemaker. While raising her family she helped with barn chores, made the best applesauce, apple pie, jelly and chocolate chip cookies. When the grandkids came she also took up the duties of babysitting and transporting them to whereever they needed to be. She found time to visit her friends and was always there when called upon. Dorothy M. Forrest, 88, of Towanda, formerly of Ulster, passed away early Sunday morning, September 25, 2016 at the home of her granddaughter, Mary Ellen Forrest with whom she resided.
Dorothy was born at home on the family farm in Burlington Township on March 26, 1928. She was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1946. In January of 1956 she married Robert F. Forrest who predeceased her on October 30, 1983. Dorothy’s life encompassed her home and family. She was a member of the Ulster United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed baking, canning, sewing and crocheting. Allan P. “Fido” Simons, 61, East Smithfield, passed away September 23, 2016 following a heart attack.
Allan was born in Troy on October 2, 1954, a son of the late Lewis Albert Simons and Beatrice (Lee) Simons. He was a graduate of SRU High School class of 1973. Allan was a member of the Monroeton Rod and Gun Club and a social member of the Beirne-Webster VFW Post in Towanda. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Scottie Simons. Linda B. Shears, 76, of Lake-ville, OH, passed away, after a lengthy illness, Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at Schlabach Funeral Home in Shreve. Friends may call from 9:00 am until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Twinsburg. She was born Oct. 13, 1939 in Canton, to Robert and Blanche (Kuchenbrod) Pidcoe. Linda was a member of the United Methodist Church where she always found time to help with bible school and other activities at church. She was very involved in 4-H, scouting, and supported her children and grandchildren in the Soap Box Derby when they were growing up. Her great joy in life was being a homemaker and spending time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. Beverly Foust, 68, of Mainsburg, PA (Sullivan Twp.) peacefully passed away at home, September 22, 2016 while surrounded by family. Beverly Ann Raplee was born April 11, 1948 in Alba, PA, a daughter of the late Leroy Raplee and Eva (Worthington) Austin. Bev will be remembered as an insightful and strong woman; a person who was steadfast in living true to her beliefs and convictions. Bev was the ultimate homemaker. She went all out for family gatherings and kept an immaculate house and yard. She enjoyed puzzle books, tending her flower and vegetable gardens, going camping and a night out with family or friends was always special. On August 21, 1999 she married Dale Foust in Troy and they recently celebrated 17 years of marriage. Surviving are husband Dale, children; Laurie (George) Evans, Troy and Chad (Lilly) Foust, Troy; step-daughters; Michelle (Steve) Stettler, Smithville, WV and Amy Gaylord, Elmira, NY; grandchildren: Tyler and Nathan Stettler, Brielle Gaylord and Samantha Evans; great granddaughter; Sophia; sister; Kathy (Stan) Harris, Wellsburg, NY; special niece, Jill (Shawn) Frey, Sylvania; aunt and uncle; Faye Dean, Canton, PA and Donald Worthington, Florida, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Roger Maurice Keagle, 98, formerly of Canton, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at the Elderwood Care Nursing Home in Waverly, NY.
Born October 17, 1917, the son of Leon and Eleanor (Parsons) Keagle of Canton, one of five siblings, he lived in Owego, NY from 1950 until the end of his life. Mr. Keagle graduated from Mansfield State Teacher’s College (now Mansfield University) with a music degree in 1941, enlisted and served as a musician and bandleader in the U. S. Army and later in the Army Air Force stateside and in Italy until 1946. Larry W. Bassett, 71, Granville Summit, PA (Leroy Twp.) passed away unexpectedly Friday Morning, September 9, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Larry Wayne Bassett was born in Canton, PA on November 12, 1944. He was one of four children of the late Ardell and Marletta (Rhodes) Bassett. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Penelec for over 34 years, and retired as a technical supervisor. He then enjoyed his dream of a lifetime job and established SeaDawg Charters, a fishing charter service, on Lake Ontario for eight years. A great husband, father and grandfather, Larry was a mentor and the glue of the family. He would offer help to anyone in need. Larry enjoyed life and lived every day to its fullest. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved to fish, hunt, camp and boat. Larry also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially Texas Hold’em and watching old western movies. He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge 429, American Legion Post 42 in Towanda and a former member of the Wysox Kiwanis. Francis Lamphere, 72, Canton, PA passed away unexpectedly at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital on Wednesday evening, September 7, 2016. Born May 30, 1944 in Sayre, PA Francis Howard, “Fran” Lamphere was a son of the late John Edward and Mildred Jane (Anderson) Lamphere. After graduation from Towanda High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea for a time as the Vietnam War began to escalate. On June 17, 1967, Fran married the former Julia Putnam in Athens. They shared 47 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on Nov. 1, 2014. He was employed for many years by Westinghouse/Toshiba in Horseheads, NY until its closure. In early years he worked for American La France Corp. in Elmira. Family was always priority number one in Fran’s life. He cherished the times shared with his children and grandchildren. Though sometimes quiet, he will be lovingly remembered for his silly sense of humor, a great jokester and prankster. Fran also loved nature and the great outdoors; was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He and Judy would enjoy hours of feeding and watching the squirrels and wildlife. |
