Eloise McNett

On the morning of Thursday, June 18, 2020, Eloise McNett of Canton, PA passed away from natural causes at the Bradford Country Manor after a brief stay at Troy Hospital. Eloise was 83 years of age.


Born on June 20, 1936 in Leolyn, Tioga County, PA. She was the daughter of Woods Garth McNett and Marian (Ward) McNett. Eloise grew up in Leolyn and attended Roaring Branch Elementary School and Canton High School. Eloise attended college at Williamsport Area Community College and received her teaching Degree from Mansfield State College.  Eloise was a well-known citizen of Canton after teaching Elementary education in the local school district for 33 years.

Beverly J. Hamm

On the evening of Saturday, June 20, 2020, Beverly J. Hamm of Troy passed away unexpectedly at Troy Community Hospital. She was 82 years of age. Born June 25, 1937 in Troy she was the daughter of Harold M. and Evelyn (Walburn) Shedden. Beverly was the owner of B.J. Hamm Storage in LeRoy. She enjoyed wood working, crafts, puzzles, coin and stamp collecting, playing cards, playing aggravation, country music and going to garage sales. She also enjoyed walking, having coffee with friends every day at 1:30 PM and being with her family, especially at the annual Shedden-Walburn Reunion.


She is survived by her sons Howard M. Hamm of Troy, Michael P. Hamm of Ga., daughters Lisa A. Tiebout of Sunbury and Phyllis J. (& Robert) Jones of Scranton, sister Barbara J. Wright of Tunkhannock, sister-in-law Rowena Shedden, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Evelyn Shedden, infant sister Connie, brother Harold “Sonny” Shedden, sister Mary Carney, grandson Richard Paul Hamm and granddaughter Christina Kinner Sandor.

Visitation will be Wednesday June 24 from 1 to 2 PM at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St., Canton, Pa. Service will follow at two PM. Interment will be in Windfall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Hospital for Children (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)

enneth “Ken” M. Florentine

Kenneth “Ken” M. Florentine, 84, beloved husband of Linda (Brown) Florentine, of Lincoln Falls, PA passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at UPMC Williamsport Hospital, surrounded by family. 


A funeral service to celebrate Ken’s life was held at the Lincoln Falls Wesleyan Church in Elkland Township on Friday, June 19, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. The Rev. Herbert Eby will be officiating with Pastor Bill Hargenrader assisting. Please abide by all social distancing policies and wearing masks when attending.  Burial followed in the Elkland Friends Cemetery.  Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Dr., Canton is assisting Mr. Florentine’s family with arrangements.

Wiebe Jelsma

Wiebe Jelsma, 98, of Turbotville, PA (formerly of Roaring Branch) passed away peacefully on June 13, 2020 at UPMC Muncy Place. He was born on January 13, 1922 in Den Helder, North Holland, Netherlands. He was the son of Harm Jelsma and Fokeltje (Nauta) Jelsma. He received his accounting degree in the Netherlands before immigrating to the United States in 1950. He was a Prudential Agent for many years, then worked for the Bradford County Housing and Redevelopment Authority in Blossburg, PA until his retirement in 1984. He and two friends founded the Sheshequin Trail Campground in Marsh Hill in the 70’s, where he enjoyed spending time with many new friends he made there. He was a founding member of the Roaring Branch Water Works and  the First United Methodist Church in Muncy, PA.


He was married to the late Waldtraut E. (Grossgebauer) Jelsma on March 15, 1952 and shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling to see their families in the Netherlands and Germany as well as around the United States and Canada. They spent most of their married life in Roaring Branch, where Wiebe always had a huge vegetable and flower garden. He loved to give away the potatoes and shallots that he grew and was so proud of the dinner plate dahlias he had in his garden.

Elam Bernard Carrigan, 92, of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa. passed away peacefully, of natural causes, on June 5th, 2020, at Oak Leaf Manor (skilled care) in Lancaster Pa. He was born January 2, 1928 to Elam and Abigail (Frye)  Carrigan of Unionville, Pa. Chester County. 


He was a graduate of Unionville High School in 1946. After four years in the Army he decided to pursue  farming and carpentry. His vast carpentry skills turned into a lifelong career with Streeter Associates of Elmira N.Y.


Elam and his wife (previously deceased) Frances Maureen (Sheller) moved to Bradford County, Pa. where they settled to raise their family.

Arthur Edward Dickerson

Arthur Edward Dickerson, 85, of Troy, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Art was the husband of E. Johann (Mott) Dickerson. The couple married March 4, 1956 and had 64 happy years together.


Art was born on January 25, 1935 in Troy Township, son of the late E. Laverne and Nellie Amanda (Rockwell) Dickerson. He was a 1953 Troy High School graduate and was a printer and type setter for Elmira Quality Printers until his retirement. Art was very involved with is church and his community. He served the community as an officer of the Alparon Park Board and organized the vendors for the Maple Festival held there each year. He was an active member of the Columbia Cross Roads Methodist Church, he lent a hand when needed and sang in the choir. For many years Art also sang in the Old Hymns quartet. Art was a longtime member, past president and secretary of the Sylvania Lions Club, he was active in its recycling program, fundraising activities and a member of its Demolition Derby Committee, which was featured at the Troy Fair. He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the highest honor conferred to a Lion in recognition of humanitarian efforts. Past volunteer activities include the Boy Scouts and Little League. In 2015 Art was recognized for all his accomplishments by being awarded Alumni of the Year by the Troy Area School District

Nancy J. (Miller) Anspach, 80, of Shunk, PA., formerly of Lititz, PA., passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020 at UPMC Williamsport Hospital.

Deronda Elizabeth Bieri

Deronda Elizabeth Bieri, age 82, of Lawrenceville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at her home. She was born on July 23, 1937 in Grover, PA, a daughter of Charles Richard and Nedra (Hickok) Campbell. Deronda and her husband, Robert, would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 25, 2020. She worked as an LPN at Bath VA Medical Center. Deronda enjoyed baking and cooking.

Deronda is survived by her husband; a son, Lloyd Bieri of Millerton; two daughters, Julie Bieri of Moundridge, KS, and Janice Marie Satterlee of Lawrenceville; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and three sisters, Joyce Jones of Daggett, PA, Daphna (“Tex”) Watkins of FL, and Audrey Watkins of Tioga, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Dale Campbell.

Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 from 4:00-5:00pm at the Daggett United Methodist Church. Dilman J. Dunbar

Dilman J. Dunbar, Age 92, of Big Pond, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 1, 2020. Dilman was born November 29, 1927 on the family farm in  Big Pond, son of the late Romie & Coral (Smith) Dunbar. He was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1946 and was married to the late Lola M. (Risley) Dunbar who passed away in 2012.
Dilman was a longtime farmer and rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service. He was a lifelong member of the Big Pond United Methodist Church, Charter Member of the Big Pond Lions Club having joined March 1, 1952 with 68 years of dedicated service, Ondawa Grange Member for 76 years, Former Director of Grange Mutual Insurance Company, and the Treasurer for the Hillside Cemetery Association for over 50 years. Dilman was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend and community servant who will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

Jean (Castle) Huffman

Jean (Castle) Huffman, 94, of Canton, PA, passed away peacefully at the Bradford County Manor on Tuesday evening, May 26, 2020. Jean was born in Dilliner, PA, on September 19, 1925 to the late Benjamin (B.H.) and Virginia (McNeil) Castle. The family moved to the farm in Williams Hollow near East Canton in 1929. She started school in the one room schoolhouse in East Canton and graduated from Canton High School in 1942. On November 29, 1946 she married the love of her life, Jack Huffman. They were married in the log cabin that her father built for her near the family farm. As a young woman, Jean was employed as bookkeeper in the office of Rockwell’s Feed Mill in Canton. Shortly following marriage, Jack and Jean acquired the East Canton General Store and saw to its daily operations for nearly 25 years. When her husband, Jack, was elected as District Magistrate, Jean went to work for Bradford County as Judge Huffman’s secretary. She served by her husband’s side in the Troy office for 16 years until her retirement in June of 1988.
