Esther Wrisley

Esther Wrisley, 97, passed away March 31, 2016 in Allison Park, PA.  She was born January 27, 1919 in Granville Summit, PA.  She was the daughter of Leon Kelton Evans and Mary Ellen Smith.  
    She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Albert, infant son Albert, Jr. and sisters Pauline (George) Bloom and Erma (Laverne) Knowlden, step-mother Mabel Riley Evans and step-brother Jack (Joyce Peck) Riley..  She was also preceded in death by Albert’s sisters and brothers Sara (Tom) Case, Lucy, Ellery Jacob (Janice), George (Doris), Bertha (Kenneth) Harper, Theodore Irvine, Lola Dunbar, and Kenneth (Margaret).   
    Surviving are children Arden (Julie) , Elaine (Tom) Reed, and Lynette (Paul) Jack, and (4) grandchildren, Steven (Saundra) Jack, Amy (Trevor) Schmidt, Pamela (John) Lopez, and Christopher (Tammy) Wrisley, and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca and Ryan Lopez, Catherine Wrisley, and Finn and Aidan Jack. She is also survived by brother-in-law Dilmon Dunbar and many nieces and nephews, including Mary Jean (Jim) Andrus, Marlene (Don) Hulbirt, and Keith (Axianne) Knowlden and cousins.

Loretta V. Fitzwater

   Loretta V. Fitzwater, 76,  Canton, PA, was called home to her Savior on Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016 at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.
    Loretta Vesta was born April 2, 1939 near Estella in Sullivan County, PA.  She was one of six children born to the late Laurence and Jean (McCarty) Higley and also the step daughter of Evelyn Bennett Higley.  She was a graduate of Estella High School, class of 1957.
    On October 26, 1957 she married Philip D. Fitzwater in Estella, PA; they were blessed with 58 years of loving marriage and raised three children.
    For over 35 years Loretta was employed in the Cafeteria at Canton Area Schools, until retiring in 2001. She was a talented cook and will be remembered for making thousands of cakes for various celebrations throughout the area.  Loretta and Phil owned and operated LP Catering Services.  In earlier days, she was active with helping serve meals for the 4H Camp at Camp Brule.  They also enjoyed running the dinning hall at the Forksville Fair for many years.

Geraldine M. Rathbun

    On the morning of Thursday, March 31st, 2016, Geraldine Mary (Morgan) Rathbun of East Troy passed away quietly at her residence.  She was 91 years of age.   Born January 7th, 1925 in Shunk, she was the daughter of Lester and Mary (Bohart) Morgan.  She grew up in a large family with 5 brothers and 3 sisters.   When she was young her musically talented family formed a band which performed for square dances at a family-owned dance hall.  As a result, Geraldine  developed a lifelong passion for music and dancing.  Geraldine was blessed with a strong work ethic and was never afraid to tackle any job.  She worked as a cook at the Holiday Inn in Horseheads, NY, the gift shop at the Ocala National Forest in Florida,  at the post office in Granville Summit, and was an accomplished paper hanger as well.  She spent one day per week baking bread, pies, cookies and sticky buns for sale to the public.   She was very handy at crafts as well as constructing with wood, always building things to make her home more charming. She loved to sew, and made many of her children’s clothes.  In more recent years she enjoyed making ornamental jewelry from glass beads.  She was also a member of the Canton Women Of The Moose and the First Christian Church of Alba.   Geraldine was a woman with a strong faith in the Lord and a  generous heart toward her fellow human beings.  She raised five children of her own, but was always willing to take in others who needed a temporary home.

Philip "Pete" McClure

    Philip “Pete” McClure Sr., 89, of Lake Helen, FL, formerly of Mifflinburg and Troy, passed way, March 31, 2016 at his home in Lake Helen, FL.
     Born July 23, 1926 in Columbia Cross Roads, Philip Orin was a son of the late Fred and Ruth (Benson) McClure.  He graduated with Troy High School’s class of 1944 and received a farming degree from Future Farmers of America.
      On June 22, 1946 Pete married the former Marie Teribury in East Troy.  They were blessed with nearly 61 years together and raised four children.
     In addition to his love for dairy farming, Pete worked for the Oliver Corp. and the Chef- Boy-R-Dee Company.  He also enjoyed times spent camping and traveling. In 1962 Pete and Marie established their family’s farm in Mifflinburg into McClure’s Mobile Home Campground and together saw to its daily operations until retiring in 1977.

Jeffrey G. Seelye

     Jeffrey G. Seelye, 20,  Sylvania,  passed away on March 28, 2016 at his home.  
    Jeff was born on July 15, 1995 in Sayre, son of Earl J. Seelye of Sugar Branch Lake and Catherine (Clark) Seelye of Sylvania.  He attended Troy High School and was Christian by faith.  He enjoyed gaming on his X-Box, fishing, and camping with his family.  
    Surviving are his parents Earl J. Seelye and Catherine (Dan Worden) Seelye, Sylvania;  daughter Kennedy; step children Latreya and Tyler Barrett; brother Sherman Payne, Washington State and  sister Michele (Robert) Boyer,Towanda; grandmother Phyllis Seelye, Lawrenceville, uncles and aunts: Greg (Carol) Button, Lawrenceville, Mike (Karline) Clark of South Dakota, Brian Seelye, Blossburg, Phyllis Parker, Galeton, Melonie Smith of New York State, and Kathleen Seelye, Lawrenceville, several other nieces nephews and cousins, and special friends Kelly and Brandi Fitzwater and Austin and Abbigayl Brown.

Larry J. Packard

   Larry J. Packard, 71, Williamsport, died  March 25, 2016, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born  Aug. 25, 1944, in Towanda, he was a son of the late N. Raymond and Vera (Nesbitt) Packard.
 Larry graduated from Canton High School. Following graduation he was a Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He sailed around the world on the Enterprise. He later graduated from Williamsport Area Community College with an associate’s degree. Larry was employed with Northrup-Grumman in environmental compliance and quality control. He also worked for Susquehanna Wire Rope as a supervisor and later retired from the produce department at Wegmans.
   He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1 and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Forty & Eight Voiture No. 382. Larry enjoyed working in the flower gardens, going to flea markets and craft shows with his wife, playing washers with his family and dancing. Most of all he cherished sitting on the patio enjoying nature.

Arthur "Art" Clark

    Arthur D. “Art” Clark Sr., 88, beloved husband of Angie Clark, Shunk,  passed away, March 24, 2016 at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte.
    Arthur Dudley, “Art” to family and friends, was born on August 24, 1927 in New Brunswick, NJ, one of four children of the late Frederick and Christina (Vanderkratz) Clark.  He was a graduate of New Brunswick High School.  
    On June 2, 1951 Art married the former Angelina M. Carneglia in Franklin Park, NJ and they were blessed with three children.  Art was employed as a Lieutenant Correctional Officer with the Middlesex County Correction Facility for 26 years until retiring in 1985.  He and Angie then moved to Sullivan County to make their home.  Art possessed many interests in life.  He appreciated nature, being outdoors and was an avid gardener; winning several awards given by the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society.  Art also enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and was an American History buff, especially the Civil War.  He was an admirer of the Ford Model T and enjoyed being a member of the “T-Boners” Club.

Bart J. Camp

    On  March 23rd, 2016, Bart James Camp, 41  Athens passed away unexpectedly at Robert Packer Hospital following a brief illness.   
    Born March 18th, 1975 in Elmira, he was the son of William and Kandace (Corson) Camp.  During his working life Bart had been employed by Eckert Pharmaceuticals and by Citibank, who offered him a position in London, England.  However, Bart declined the offer, preferring to remain in the U. S.  where  he could look after his parents.  He was their primary caregiver until their passing.   In more recent years he tended bar at the Tamarack  Tavern in Troy.

Pauline Cole

   Pauline Cole, 90, of Gillett, PA, went home to the Lord on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Pauline was born on March 10, 1926, in Grover, PA, one of five children of the late Floyd A. and Loretta A. (Elliott) Wilston.  She graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1944.  On September 1, 1945, Pauline married Donald V. Cole in Canton.
    She was employed as a secretary/clerk for H. Rockwell & Son in Canton until retiring in 1986.  In earlier years, she worked at Canton’s Ross Nursing Home and the former Nordon Bombsite Plant in Elmira, NY. Pauline was a member of the East Canton United Methodist Church and later enjoyed attending the Fassett Baptist Church.
    Family and home were most important in Pauline’s life.  She also enjoyed times spent traveling and camping.  She and Don made several weekly vacations to Canada, spent many winters in Florida and visited the West Coast of the United States and Alaska.  She especially loved to read and visit with friends.
    Surviving is her devoted husband of 70 years, Don; daughter, Claudia (Dave) Dixon, Elmira, three grandchildren; Kelley (Mark) Cullen of Cheney, WA, Heather Lloyd of Horseheads and Joseph (Emily) Dixon of Horseheads; great grandchildren; Claireese Dixon, Ashlee Storm, and Kady and Cole Cullen.

David Martin Ross

   David Martin Ross, 93, of Burlington, Pa., passed away Sunday morning, March 20, 2016 at the Bradford County Manor in West Burlington Township, Pa. David was born on July 3, 1922 in Troy, Pa., the son of Martin and Susan Bailey Ross.
    He was a graduate of Troy High School and later served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
    In early years, David was employed by Ward LaFrance and American LaFrance in Elmira, N.Y. He was self employed as a truck driver for many years until his retirement. David enjoyed stock car racing on the weekends with his sons, riding a motorcycle, antique cars and following NASCAR.
