Steven G. Greene

  Steven G. Greene, 58, of Gillett, PA., passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, October 15, 2019, with his loving family by his side.
  Steven Gerald was born July 20, 1961 in Troy, Pa to Bernard “Pete” Greene and Martha (Brown) Covey.  He attended Canton High School and was a graduate of the class of 1979. After graduation he attended Penn State University where he studied Electrical Engineering. He then went on to enlist in the United States Navy and was involved in Rescue and Salvage four years until his honorable discharge.
​   Steven will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor and being quite the jokester. He was a sincere family man and always cherished time spent with his grandchildren. Steven always looked forward to hearing from old classmates and made sure to keep in touch with them. He raised Great Danes and loved his faithful canine companions, Zeus and Athena. Steven enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and riding his motorcycle. He and his wife Cathy owned and operated Café ’14 in Gillett for several years until his health no longer permitted, forcing them to close.

Carol A. Gergel

   Carol A. (Yankus) Gergel, age 77 of Queen Esther Drive, Athens, PA passed away at home on Monday, September 2, 2019. Carol was born November 1, 1941 in Brooklyn the daughter of the late John & Catherine (Krawczuk) Yankus. She received her master’s degree in Chemistry from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. She was married to James R. Gergel on May 27, 1967 and they celebrated 52 years together. Carol worked in the research laboratory setting prior to retiring in 1970 to be at home with her family. She was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and an avid reader. She and Jim recently moved to this area to be closer to their family.

Donald Lee Garrett

   Donald Lee Garrett passed away on June 14, 2019 at his home.  Don was born in Sellersville, P.A., Oct. 7, 1949. Don was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a certified scua diver, motorcyclist, and outdoors man.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Hunting Association.
  Don was a tractor trailer driver and retired from Indian Valley Bulk Carriers, Tylersport, P.A. after over 20 years of employment.  He purchased his property here in Bradford County in 1995 and that is where he built his dream home.  Don spent his retirement in Columbia Cross Roads. where he enjoyed the beautiful view of mountainsides, acres of pasture, and the wildlife that frequented his property.
  His passion was his animals.  Don loved his dogs, Toby and Sully, his five horse, Lucy, Major, Faaz (Faazy), Rusty (Miggie), and Dalton.  He also cared for several stray cats that made his property their home.
​   Don was precided in death by his mom, Doris Garrett, and dad, S. Donald Garrett.  He is survived by his brother, Darren Garrett, and sister-in-law, Valerie Keeler of Silverdale P.A.  Don will be sadly missed by his close friends, who considered him family.
   A Veteran Memorial Service was held at the Troy Vets Club, July 20, at 11 a.m. in his honor.  Don served his country at a time when the country did not respect those who sacrificed everything for our freedom and way of life, that war changed his life forever and this memorial service is intended to finally give him the welcome home he should have gotten all those years ago.
   Donations can be made in Don's honor to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.

Kirtis John Geer

  Kirtis John Geer, age 38, of Franklin Township, Pa., passed away unexpectedly at his home.
​  “Curly” as he was known by friends, was born Mar. 17, 1981 in Sayre, Pa., to David and Wanita (Carl) Geer.  Kirt attended Towanda High School and was a graduate of the class of 1999 and also Northern Tier Career Center in Towanda, Pa., where he obtained his Electrical Certification. He was employed by the Bradford County Correctional Facility as a maintenance worker. Kirt was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and ATVs. He could often be found tinkering on engines or anything mechanical. He had a kind heart and a warm smile that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Shirley Ann Gamber

   Shirley Ann Gamber, 78, of East Point, Pa. died peacefully on Feb. 24, 2019.
​    Born in Anneville, Pa., on Dec. 8, 1940, Shirley was the daughter of the late John and Emma Round.  On Sept. 28, 1957 she married Stewart Gamber, they shared 45 wonderful years together before his passing in 2002.  Shirley was a very talented baker, always trying new recipes. She will be remembered for her famous chocolate covered cherries. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, puzzles and playing “pickle ball.” She was a member of the Arnot Sportsman’s Club, the Liberty VFW and a former member of the Blossburg American Legion. Shirley participated in the Women in the Wild at Mt. Pisgah State Park and was active at the East Point United Methodist Church. Shirley was always known as the CEO of the Gamber household and her family knew that “Mom was right and right she’ll always be!”

Irene Martin Good

  Irene Martin Good of Canton, age 85, went to be with Jesus on Jan. 28, 2019. She was born Dec. 27, 1933 in Lancaster, Pa. Irene was married to the late Melvin Good on April 20, 1957. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before Melvin’s passing in October of 2016. Irene served countless people and ministries through her hospitality. She provided many warm meals and beds on short notice. Irene served beside Melvin to help on the farm, hosting the Glory Barn, pastoring and managing MMM Good Bed and Breakfast. She also helped with prison ministry at Bradford County prison for many years and with New Beginnings Ministry.
  Irene is survived by her four sons and their wives, Jay and Faye Good, Canton, Pennsylvania, Clair and Beth Good, Kenya, Africa, Clifford and Cheryl Good, Muncy, Pennsylvania and Jeff and Denise Good, East Berlin, Pennsylvania.

Ann Marie Wilcox Griswold

   Ann Marie Wilcox Griswold, age 80 of Roaring Branch, Pa., was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 while surrounded by loved ones. She was a member of the Grover Church of Christ and a graduate of Canton High School class of 1956.  Ann Marie was born in Manhattan, N.Y., on Sept. 14,1938. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Loretta Toth of Ellenton Mountain.  
​   She is survived by her daughters Shari Matthews of Horseheads, N.Y.,  Cheryl (& Thomas) Newton of Canton,  Robin (& Dennis) Wilson of Roaring Branch,  sons John L. (& Marcella) Wilcox Jr. of Franklindale and Ron Wilcox (& Lou Peccerillo)  of Port Charlotte, Fla., as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John L. Wilcox, Sr., and grandson, Dennis Wilson, Jr.

Vicki J. Greenough, 61, Big Pond, Pa, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2018 at Athens Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1957 in Elmira, N.Y., Vicki Joy was a daughter of the late Robert and Shirley (Dunbar) Greenough. She was a member of Troy High School’s 1975 graduating class. Vicki was blessed with a great sense of humor; she made friends easily and all who knew her will remember that wonderful wit and beautiful smile. She was a member of the Faith Community United Methodist Church in Big Pond. Vicki loved nature and being outdoors, especially gardening and yard work. She also was a devoted caretaker of her parents in their later years.

William "Charlie" Gustafson

   William “Charlie” Gustafson, 80, of Canton, PA, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 2, 2018.
William Charles, “Charlie” to family and friends, was born September 21, 1937, in Jersey Shore, PA, a son of the late Henry and Sarah (Koch) Gustafson.  He was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School and continued his education receiving an Associate degree in drafting from the former Williamsport Area Community College.
Charlie was a talented carpenter. He worked as a self-employed contractor and will be remembered for the many houses he built throughout Pennsylvania.  In later years he operated a plant nursery and raised Christmas trees at his home in Elysburg before he and Elaine moved to Canton and built a home.
 On Jan. 26, 2002, he married the former Elaine Bovier in the East Canton United Methodist Church.  Charlie was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. He was known for his strong will and work ethic, working as long as his health would permit him.  Charlie was a member of the East Canton United Methodist Church and the Watsontown Masonic Lodge No. 401 F&AM.

Robert V. Gleckner

  During the early hours of Sunday, March 18th, 2018,  Robert V. Gleckner of Canton went home with Jesus after a courageous battle with a debilitating illness.  He was 81 years of age.
 Born September 1st, 1936 in Canton he was the son of Elwyn and Irene (Burlingame) Gleckner.           
    Bob was a graduate of Canton Area High School as well as Penn State University where he earned his master’s degree in horticulture.  He served our country with the U.S. Army as part of the 15th Evac Hospital unit.  
    After returning to civilian life he pursued a career in landscaping and as a florist.  
    He married the former Ida Groover and together they raised two sons and a daughter.
     For many years Bob and Ida operated Ida’s Flower Shop in Canton, but Bob also kept busy at other occupations.  He worked as a sales representative for the former Gleckner Harness Company in Canton, taught driver education at Canton High School and taught horticulture at Penn College in Williamsport.
      Bob enjoyed attending sports events, especially those involving Canton High School and Penn State.
     He was a congenial man with a warm, friendly smile who enjoyed the company of his children, grandchildren and friends.
