Edward Jeffery Cox, 62, beloved husband of Cathy (Biel) Cox, of New Jersey, formerly of Canton, Pa., passed away, August 24, 2020 in Burlington, N.J.

A complete obituary will be in next week’s paper. Kenneth Duane Groover, age 72, passed away August 8, 2020 at Sweden Valley Manor. Born May 10, 1948 in Blossburg PA he was the son of Charles and Ada (Brown) Groover. Ken or Kenny, as most people knew him, married his wife Mary Slocum (or Susie as she has always been known) on July 3, 1970 and together they joined their families. Ken grew up on the family farm in Ogdensburg, PA. Being one of seven children everyone had their fair share of work to do. Miller, age 83, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Canton, PA, passed away on August 8, 2020. Born in 1936 in Canton, PA she was the daughter of the late Lynden and Pauline McConnell. Linda was a graduate of Canton High School and Goldey Beacom College and attended the Life Long Learning Institute. She began her career as a secretary for Dupont. After raising her family she began working again in the office of Hanby Middle School. Later during retirement she worked as a receptionist at Shipley Manor. Linda was a member of Aldersgate Methodist Church, part of the Altar Guild, volunteer at the Red Cross, and member of the DuPont Country Club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, going to Bethany Beach, the theatre, and was an avid Philly sports fan. Linda was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and loved attending her grandchildren’s sports activities and school events. She was always active and loved learning new things and took classes until she could not drive anymore, but that didn’t stop her. She started taking paratransit and enjoyed the many people she met. Nancy Jean (Roberts) Keck Parker, 78, of Manheim, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 at home. She was the wife of the late John H. Keck (1996) and Homer L. Parker, Sr. (2005). She was born in Mount Vision, NY, daughter of the late Cassius Mathewson Roberts and Emma Elizabeth Davis Roberts. Nancy was a member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church and grew up in upstate New York, and graduated from Morris Central School. She worked many years for insurance companies, handling all aspects of claims and in later years she specialized in Worker’s Compensation Claims. She had taken many insurance courses and earned the designation of Certified Professional Insurance Woman (CPIW). She was an avid reader, loved to crochet, do crossword puzzles, watched movies, listened to music, loved letter writing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. She is survived by sons: Elbert John (Rita Marie) Morehouse, Corinth, MS; Larry J. (Marcie) Morehouse, Maumee, OH; and Thomas J. (Jeni) Morehouse, Sprakers, NY. Stepdaughters: Regina Keck (James) Ensor, Landisville; and Deborah Keck, Mountville. Several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law: Soon H. Roberts, Cordova, TN. She was preceded in death by one brother: Frederick A. Roberts (2004). One sister: Dorothy L. Manley. Two special nieces: Joan Manley Crippen and Carol Manley Stickles. Stanton passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at Kindred Hospital, Havertown, PA. He was born October 2, 1955, at the Troy Community Hospital, Troy, PA, to Dr. Donald F. Stanton and the late Phyllis Seeley Stanton.
Steve grew up in Canton, PA, and graduated from Canton Junior Senior High School. He earned a B.S. degree from Butler University. Steve served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant junior grade on the flagship USS Mt. Whitney. He attended the Navy’s Justice School in Norfolk, RI, and enjoyed the opportunity to represent the enlisted men. This experience led him to obtain a law degree from the University of Florida, specializing in patent law. He practiced his profession in the Philadelphia area. Bernard Anthony “Bernie” Yanchuk, 88, of Troy, PA passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the Sherwood Retirement Personal Care Home in Canton, PA with his three sons by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Wanda L. (Watkins) Yanchuk who passed away on April 22, 2015. The couple married April 30, 1952 and had almost 63 happy years together.
Bernie was born on March 21, 1932 in Miners Mills, PA, son of the late John and Mary (Urbanavitch) Yanchuk. He was a Korean War veteran, serving his country in the US Army as a medic. Bernie retired from Corning Glass where he was a Tool and Die Maker. He was an avid coin collector, liked doing lawn work, and enjoyed taking his daily walks. Bernie also enjoyed being around his friends, especially the ladies of Troy Community Hospital and the staff at Moose’s Munchies. Bernie was an artist who drew caricatures of family and friends, he even drew for Corning Glass. He was Christian by faith. HOLTON, KS - Helen Ruth (Vliet) Brokaw, 93, of Holton, KS, passed away Friday, August 14, 2020 in Holton at Medicalodges Jackson County. Helen passed away from natural causes. Helen was formerly from Canton, PA. She was born December 26, 1926 in Lamington, NJ, the daughter of Fred and Dorothy (Timmerman) Vliet.
She graduated from Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ in 1944. Helen worked for Canton Manufacturing in Canton, PA. She was also previously employed as a secretary/administrative assistant at several companies. She was a member of the Canton VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 714, Canton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 303, N.P.H.C.A. (North Pennsylvania Horse Club Association), Trail Dusters Saddle Club, Garden State Dairy Goat Association, NJ, and many 4-H activities including goats, rabbits, and horses. She was also active with the Canton Senior Citizens Club, volunteering for Meals on Wheels of NE Bradford. Helen was a faithful member of The Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton, PA. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Alson C. Nickerson will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2020, 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Troy, PA. She was 62 years of age, and currently resided with her son. Sandy was born in Reading, Pa., March 20, 1958, the daughter of the late C. LeRoy and Irene (Reynolds) Seelye. She graduated from Canton Area High School in 1976, then furthered her education and pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a familiar smiling face at Dr. Kirkowski’s Canton office for many years. She also opened her home, as well as her heart, to foster children.
Sandy will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Derek (Katie) McWilliams of Culpepper, Va., and Joshua McWilliams of Canton, her brother, Scott (Cherie) Seelye of Shavertown, Pa., several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her Uncle Frank and Aunt Cha Babcock of Canton. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Seelye and husband, Dave McWilliams. A visitation and celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 21 from 5 to 7 PM at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center Street, Canton.
