Anna (Augustine) Potrzebowski

  Anna (Augustine) Potrzebowski, 100, life-long resident of Arnot, PA., passed away, Tuesday, February, 25, 2020 at the Green Home in Wellsboro.
  Anna was born June 9, 1919 in Arnot, last surviving of ten children of the late John and Pauline (Lentartowicz) Augustine. She was a 1936 graduate of the Arnot High School.  In 1939 she married Chester “Hooker” Potrzebowski. He preceded her in death in 1992 following 53 years of marriage.  Anna was employed by Canford Manufacturing in Canton for many years until retirement.
  Anna enjoyed flower gardening and was an avid bingo player. She will be remembered for her homemade Polish cooking, with pierogis being her specialty. Anna was a devoted member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arnot and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blossburg.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings; George, Stanley, Joseph, Walter and Frank Augustine, Christina Polcyn, Mary Skorczewski and Blanche Campbell.
   Surviving is her son; Ambrose (Patricia) Potrzebowski of Herndon, grandchildren; Alina Potrzebowski of Albuquerque, NM and Alek Potrzebowski of Alexandria, VA., one great-grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
  Friends may call 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020, at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 314 Granger St., Blossburg, PA 16912. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 138 St. Mary’s St. Blossburg. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Janet Carmen Pidcoe

Janet Carmen Pidcoe was so loved by family that when she passed on Jan 10th, 2020 her two brothers, older brother Robert Pidcoe and younger brother Paul Pidcoe wanted her to return to the family cemetery in Canton, Pa. Janet was too well organized and had pre-planned and pre-paid for her final resting place to be with her mother at Crown Cemetery in Twinsburg, Ohio.
Ms Pidcoe was born to Blanche E. Kuchenbrod Pidcoe and Robert Irvin Pidcoe, Nov 23, 1925 in Wehrum, Pa. She was the second oldest of seven children. Both brothers are still alive, she was preceded in death by her younger sisters; Gaynelle Pidcoe, Ohio, Gladys Boggs-Pidcoe, Pa, Maida Chaney (Robert), Ohio, Linda Shears, Ohio. She has many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews all around the United States who loved visiting her.
After graduating from Canton High School in Canton, Pa, Janet moved to Akron, Ohio to live with an Aunt and Uncle. She found work as a book keeper with United Rubber Cork, Linoleum and Plastic Workers of America and was there until retirement. She had a love of new cars, crafts, books and travel. She quickly became a devoted Cleveland Indians Fan and was in the stands celebrating when the Indians won the 1948 World Series. Ms Pidcoe’s love for reading led to keeping a summary of all the books she read. She traveled around the world with her sister, Gaynelle, and cousins always picking up additional books and trinkets from the local areas.
To support her travels, Janet sold Avon starting in the late 1960’s and was a top seller for decades. She was a lifelong member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church also known as Grace United Methodist Church when she joined it back in 1943. There she was active in Sunday school, women’s prayer club, the free lunch program, teaching the bible, being an attendant in the nursery and even a treasurer for the Church.

Richard R. Packard

   Richard R. Packard, 78, of Ruskin, FL., formerly a well-known Canton resident, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at his home. Richard Raymond was born in Canton on July 3, 1941 to the late Niles Raymond Packard and Vera (Nesbitt) Packard Snyder.
  He attended Canton Area Schools and was a graduate of the class of 1959. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962 as an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper. On August 8, 1964 he married the love of his life, Donna Morgan. They celebrated 55 years of devotion in August of 2019. Rich loved to hold Donna’s hand anytime he could.  Richard was supervisor at the former Masonite Corporation in Towanda, owner operator of his own truck, driving for Eastern Best Products of Canton, later retiring as a driver for the former Stroehmann Bread Plant in Williamsport.

Walter A. Petrowski Jr.

  Walter A. Petrowski Jr., 55, well known resident of Roaring Branch, PA, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. Waldo or Wally, as known by friends, was born February 10, 1964 in Queens, NY, a son of the late Walter Arthur Petrowski Sr. and Dixie (Woodruff) Goodwin He grew up in Leroy and attended Canton Schools where he was a graduate of the class of 1982. On July 20, 1985 he married the love of his life, Brenda Myers in Honesdale, PA. Together they shared 34 years of wedded bliss and raised 4 wonderful children. In his younger years Walter was employed by Rathbun Veal and later served as manager of the Steam Valley Restaurant in Trout Run for 20 years. Most recently he worked for Cuz Excavating in Canton until his health no longer permitted him to continue.

Janet W. Pepper

  Janet W. Pepper, 81, of LeRoy, PA, went home to her Lord and Savior, Wednesday November 27, 2019 while surrounded by her loving family at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Janet was born February 13, 1938 in Wheelerville, PA to the late Gordon and Wanda (Fuller) Morgan. She was the youngest of five children and had a deep love for her siblings. She attended Canton High School where she met the love of her life, Thomas C. Pepper. They were married by Pastor Paul Dale and together shared 65 years together. They had four children and felt blessed to raise them on the family farm.
   She was a devoted wife and mother who always put the needs of her family first. She enjoyed taking care of her home and had a frugal and practical wisdom that blessed her family.
   She had a special way with children and was blessed to be a grandmother. She lulled many of her dear grandchildren to sleep with her special little lullaby. Her greatest joy was making memories with them.
   Her door was always open and so were her arms, you never left hungry or without a warm hug. She cherished family togetherness and her joy was evident when spending time with them. Her home was filled with lots of love and laughter. 
​   She loved preserving family moments in photos and many happy times were captured by her keen eye. She put together beautiful scrapbooks and shared them with her children.

Edward “Eddie” Payne

  Edward “Eddie” Payne, life-long resident of Canton, PA passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
  Calling hours will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday October 25, 2019 at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Canton. Burial will be held in the Grover Cemetery.
​  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edward Payne’s name may be directed to his beloved St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 106 N. Washington St. Canton, Pa. 17724.

Edward "Eddie" Payne

   Edward “Eddie” Payne, life-long resident of Canton, PA passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
​   Eddie was born in Canton on March 27, 1926, one of three children of the late Arthur and Mary (Powers) Payne. He resided in Canton his entire life, pursuing many different business ventures. Eddie was employed at Burk’s Clothing Store, most area drug stores and the “Soda Fountain” where he became a “Local Legend” serving the best chocolate fudge sundaes, milkshakes and root beer floats. Eddie made a point to walk to work every day, regardless of weather. In his later years Eddie became a very prominent landlord, owning many properties in Canton. He always took responsibility and care for his mother, his many aunts, and his siblings. He was also a very generous man, more than willing to lend a helping hand. From giving rides to various destinations, or helping with errands such as mowing yards, getting groceries and medications. He was always happy to help. Eddie also had a passion for collecting classic automobiles. Even though he loved working with the public and helping others, he remained a very private independent man, never sharing his business with anyone. He loved animals and enjoyed feeding the deer and even a fox that would come onto his property. He will be remembered for his deep laugh and black framed glasses. Eddie was also a member of Charlie Rockwell’s Canton Bike club, riding to Troy nearly everyday and would think nothing of riding to Towanda well into his eighties.  He was a devout supporter of the Military and the Catholic Church. He leaves this world being remembered as a local icon who impacted so many lives over his ninety-three years of life.

Gladys (Boggs) Pidcoe

  Gladys (Boggs) Pidcoe, 90, of Canton, PA, passed away at home with family by her side, Wednesday, October 2, 2019.
  Gladys Mary was born July 9, 1929 in Montoursville, PA, to the late Blanche (Kuchenbrod) and Robert Pidcoe Sr. She attended Canton High School where she graduated as salutatorian of her class. On August 2, 1952 Gladys married Okey Boggs Sr. in Quantico, VA. Okey served as Captain in the Marines and as a result they lived at a number of places. Together they raised five children.
  Gladys was employed by the United States Postal Service in Mansfield, OH as a Mail Clerk until her retirement in October of 1993. She was a member of the Beech Flats Grange and was of the Methodist Faith. Gladys liked to read, knit and crochet. In her younger years she enjoyed knitting baby outfits for local hospitals.

   Gerald S. Hawthorne, 81, of Granville Summit, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
   A celebration of Jerry's life will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility in Canton; family will receive friends one-hour prior from noon to 1 p.m.  A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Louise Ameigh Pierce

   Louise Ameigh Pierce, age 99, went home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior and her husband Charles on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019. She was born Feb. 17, 1920 on Judson Hill, Coryland.
   Services will be held at the Columbia Cross Roads United Methodist Church on Aug. 24. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. with the memorial service to follow. Committal will be at Glenwood Cemetery following the memorial service with a lunch at the church afterwards.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Columbia Cross Roads United Methodist Church, P O Box 42, Columbia Cross Roads, PA 16914. Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory is assisting the family.
