Dave was born on August 5, 1943 in Sayre, the son of James and Irene Naomi (Porter) Forrest. He is survived by his wife, Sally (Reynolds) Forrest. Dave owned and operated the Forrest Carpet and Furniture store in Mansfield from 1972 to 2001. He was a lifetime member of the Austinville Union Church and enjoyed woodworking and reading.
David E. "Dave" Forrest, age 71, of Mansfield, died on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Winter is finally over. The sky is blue, the birds are singing, and the daffodils are bright. On April 30, 2015, Doris Y. Knerr, age 99, surrounded by the new warmth of the sun and the love of her family, quietly passed away. Born in Williamsport, PA, Doris was the youngest child of John and Alice Yarrison and lived her youth in the Williamsport-Jersey Shore area. After graduating from Lock Haven State Teachers College, she came to Canton as a substitute elementary school teacher in 1939. She met Frederic E. Knerr on a blind date and they were married in 1941. She spent the rest of her life living in Canton. Martin Mahosky, 80,Canton Township, formerly of Blossburg, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 following a brief stay at the Gatehouse in Williamsport. Born November 15, 1934 in Blossburg, Martin John was a son of the late Frank and Mary Agnes (Norczyk) Mahosky. He was a 1952 graduate of Blossburg High School. Martin founded M & M Wood Products, Inc. in Morris Run in 1976 and remained active in the business until retiring in 1997. On March 15, 1985, he married the former Madeleine “Madge” Stuchul in Mansfield. Marty was a member of Morris Run’s St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for many years. Most recently, he attended St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Ralston. Marty enjoyed daily breakfasts out with friends and traveling, taking many bus trips throughout the United States. Sharon I. (Nichols) Robbins, 72, of the Paul Reynolds Apartments in Troy, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Troy Community Hospital surrounded by her family.
Sharon was born on May 1, 1942 in Sayre, daughter of the late Donald H. and Eunice (Eiffert) Nichols. She was an SRU graduate and was Christian by faith. Sharon enjoyed sewing, knitting, and creating clothing. She also enjoyed cooking, tending to flowers, and spending time with her family and friends. Steven James Miller, 73, of Linden, passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at his home.
He was born February 22, 1942 in Williamsport, the son of James W. and Helen (Sember) Miller. Steven was the husband of the former Barbara Frey with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was a member of the John F. Laedlein Lodge #707, Zafar Grotto, Rafaz Club and the Travelers Protective Association. Darla Forney, 72, Canton, PA passed away peacefully Monday, April 27, 2015 at her home on Lake Nepahawin. Darla Jeanne was born November 10, 1942 in Elmira, a daughter of the late Harold Lester and Shirley June (Williams) Morgan. She grew up on the family’s farm near Shunk and graduated from Loyalsock Joint High School in 1960. Darla earned her Associates degree from Williamsport Area Community College in 1981 and her nursing certificate from Corning Community College in 1989. Darla enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse and worked at Memorial Hospital in Towanda for several years until retiring. In earlier years, she worked at Canton’s Guthrie Clinic, Darway Nursing Home in Estella, Troy Community Hospital and the Bradford County Manor. Darla was married to Merrill Forney for ten years before his passing on June 24, 2005. She and Merrill spent many winters at their home in Florida. Darla’s love for family guided everything she did; their well-being was most important in her life and she passed her work ethic on to them. She possessed a friendly, outgoing nature and “told it as she saw it”. Darla attended Canton’s Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) and enjoyed gardening and houseplants, bird watching, fishing and swimming, crocheting, knitting and embroidering. Surviving are children, Ronald, Jr. (Donna) McCarty, Forksville, Melony (Ralph) Taylor, LeRoy and Eyvonne McCarty, Williamsport; grandchildren, Jamie (Stephanie) McCarty, Sonestown, Logan McCarty, Lorida, FL, Laura Taylor (fiancé, David Shafer), Forksville, Trevor Fitzwater and Jillian Fitzwater both of Trout Run; great grandchildren, Jessamine McCarty, Titus McCarty and Mykah Shaffer; sister, Kay Morgan (Roy Pealo), Groton, NY; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Darla also leaves her devoted canine companion, Dolly. In addition to her husband Merrill, she was predeceased by an infant sister, Charlotte Muriel Morgan. Rev. Eugene Charsky will officiate a memorial service honoring Darla’s life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr., in Canton. Burial will be private. He was born in Troy on November 12, 1936 son of the late Winfield & Ione (Lee) Hulslander. Jim was affectionately known as “Redwood” attended area schools and later joined the US Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He and the former Shirley J. Moss were married on September 20, 1958 and celebrated 56 years together.
Elizabeth "Liz" A. Horton, age 50, of Painted Post, NY passed away very unexpectedly in a tragic car accident, April 25, 2015.
Liz was born on August 26, 1964 in Long Beach, CA, the daughter of the late Harry L. and Elizabeth M. (Wilson) Parks. Liz was a graduate of SRU High School, East Smithfield, class of 1982. She later went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Mansfield University, graduating in 1986. She married Scott E. Horton on May 27, 1997 in Campbell, NY. Robert W. Grantier, Troy, passed away on April 25, 2015, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was 58 years old.
Robert Wayne Grantier was born in Sayre, PA, on June 18, 1956, the youngest child and only son of the late Robert Dixon and Olympia Iannetti Grantier of Canton, PA. He grew up on the family farm, and although his career would take him from the Canton area, when he retired from education in 2014, he was happy to return to the farm and take up the work he loved. Wanda L. (Watkins) Yanchuk, 85, of Troy, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Bradford County Manor surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Bernard A. “Bernie” Yanchuk. The couple married April 30, 1952 and had almost 63 happy years together. Wanda was born on July 29, 1929 in Columbia Cross Roads, PA, daughter of the late Edgar and Anna (Trask) Watkins. She was a Troy High School graduate, Class of 1947. After high school, Wanda went to work for the Troy Area School District as secretary for Prof. W.R. Croman, namesake to our local elementary school. Wanda and Bernie spent two years in Georgia while he was serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War. She was Christian by faith. After returning home to Troy, Wanda enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family. |
