Darla Jeanne was born November 10, 1942 in Elmira, a daughter of the late Harold Lester and Shirley June (Williams) Morgan. She grew up on the family’s farm near Shunk and graduated from Loyalsock Joint High School in 1960. Darla earned her Associates degree from Williamsport Area Community College in 1981 and her nursing certificate from Corning Community College in 1989.
Darla enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse and worked at Memorial Hospital in Towanda for several years until retiring. In earlier years, she worked at Canton’s Guthrie Clinic, Darway Nursing Home in Estella, Troy Community Hospital and the Bradford County Manor.
Darla was married to Merrill Forney for ten years before his passing on June 24, 2005. She and Merrill spent many winters at their home in Florida. Darla’s love for family guided everything she did; their well-being was most important in her life and she passed her work ethic on to them. She possessed a friendly, outgoing nature and “told it as she saw it”. Darla attended Canton’s Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) and enjoyed gardening and houseplants, bird watching, fishing and swimming, crocheting, knitting and embroidering.
Surviving are children, Ronald, Jr. (Donna) McCarty, Forksville, Melony (Ralph) Taylor, LeRoy and Eyvonne McCarty, Williamsport; grandchildren, Jamie (Stephanie) McCarty, Sonestown, Logan McCarty, Lorida, FL, Laura Taylor (fiancé, David Shafer), Forksville, Trevor Fitzwater and Jillian Fitzwater both of Trout Run; great grandchildren, Jessamine McCarty, Titus McCarty and Mykah Shaffer; sister, Kay Morgan (Roy Pealo), Groton, NY; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Darla also leaves her devoted canine companion, Dolly.
In addition to her husband Merrill, she was predeceased by an infant sister, Charlotte Muriel Morgan.
