Leland passed into the arms of the Lord on January 31, 2015, at 86 years of age, following a lengthy illness.

(OJ or Gig) Boyer, 93 of Ralston, PA died on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Loyalsock Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montoursville. Born December 2, 1921 in West Fairview, PA, Owen was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; a son, James and daughter-in-law, Ellen. He retired from JP Ward Foundry, Blossburg and was a very active member of the community and the United Methodist Church of Ralston. Owen was also a Free Mason of the Canton Lodge #415. Surviving are a son, Albert Boyer of Ralston; grandson, Larry (Karen) Boyer of Mount Laurel, NJ, their children, Michael and Margaret; granddaughter, Lori (Rick) Pfiester of Altoona, their children, AnnMarie and Richard Albert and special friends; Bruce Corl, John Blackburn, John Koyen and Denny Sourbeer who supported and visited Owen throughout his extended fight with Alzheimer’s Disease. There will be no public services. Those who wish may make a memorial to Ralston Volunteer Fire Co. at P.O. Box 1 or to the Ralston U.M. Church, P.O. Box 66 both in Ralston, PA 17763. Pepper Funeral Home in Canton is in care of arrangements. Share condolences at www.pepperfuneralhomes.com Lois Jean VanNess was born at the home of her grandparents, Victor and Ina (Simcoe) VanNess, Springfield Township, on February 1, 1935. She died on January 27, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family after a battle with leukemia since 2011. Her grandmother named her “Tucker” and she carried that nickname the rest of her life. Her parents were Lester “Jack” VanNess and Freda (Cobleigh) VanNess Sweet. She graduated from Troy High School in 1952. On August 23, 1953 she married H. Dewaine Crandell better known as “Tink” and they enjoyed 46 years of marriage before his death in January of 2000, the year she retired from BLaST IU 17. Dorothy Nash Shepard, 89, died January 27th, 2015 at the Groton Nursing Facility.
Dorothy was born May 20, 1925 in Troy. a daughter of the late Roy and Bernice Sweeney Nash. She was graduated from Troy High School in 1943 and from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Elmira, NY in 1946. She worked as a private duty nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica, NY, and for 27 years Dr. Ferger and Dr. Baurle in Dryden. Harold J. Kilmer was born August 18, 1919 in Gillett, the son of the late Floyd and Hattie Kilmer passed away on January 26, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center at the age of 95. Harold was a Veteran of the US Navy proudly serving his country during WW II and the Korean War. He retired from American LaFrance after 45 years of dedicated service. Mr. Kilmer was a former resident of Canton, PA. He attended their schools, was the last surviving member of the 1939 Canton Warriors Football Team. He and his beloved Clara enjoyed wintering in Arcadia, FL. He is survived by his son: Kirk L. Kilmer of Painted Post, NY; grandchildren: Craig (Becky) Perry, Curt Perry and Cristen (Mike) Kwiatkowski; Joseph (Tacy) Kilmer and Michael Kilmer; great grandchildren: Morgan and Mitchell Perry; Jacek Kwiatkowski; Kirk Kilmer; sister-in-law, Leona Moretti of Sayre, PA; along with several nieces and nephews. John F. "Jack" Carman, 62, of Stone School Road passed away, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 at his home.
Jack was born June 1, 1952 in Sayre, a son of the late Donald and Helen (Driscoll) Carman. On Aug. 24, 1984 he married the former Karen McPherson who survives. He was a 1969 graduate of Troy High School. J. Earl Preston, 92, of Roaring Branch, Union Township, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at Troy Community Hospital. Born April 16, 1922 at his parents’ farm in Union Twp., Earl was one of four children of the late John Edwin and Mildred (Rutty) Preston. He married the former Ida Brown on Feb. 3, 1945 in Alba. They shared 65 years together before her passing on May 16, 2010. Earl began his life-long career in dairy farming as a young man. He and Ida purchased the Preston View Farm, which adjoined his parents’ land. With devoted attention and hard work over the years, Earl with Ida by his side, made many improvements. He was blessed with a strong constitution and remained active until retiring in the mid 1990’s. Charles E. Bates, 76, formerly of Troy, passed away Friday January 23, 2015 at the Bradford County Manor.
Chuck was born December 6, 1938 in Rome, NY, the son of the late Clayton and Florence (Shreck) Bates. He graduated in 1957 from Southside High School in Elmira, NY. On the morning of Wednesday, January 21st, 2015, Robert Lewis Taylor, formerly of Sylvania, passed away quietly at Bradford County Manor where he had resided recently. He was 61 years of age.
Betty Eileen Bly Mott, 89, widow of the late Frank D. Mott, Sr. passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015. Born in Millerton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cora Mae Ford Bly and Rodney William Bly. Betty graduated from Canton High School in 1943. She and Frank married in 1944. Betty was a member of the Leroy PA Church of Christ for 40 years where she was church pianist for 20 years. Retiring to Florida in 1985, she and Frank were active members of the Deltona, FL Christian Church. Betty returned to PA in 2009. |
