Phyllis was born in Canton on September 30, 1932 to the late Rozell and Ruth (Bolt) Porter. Phyllis obtained her bachelor’s degree from Grove City College. She was a homemaker. She also had worked for Hawk’s Department Store, Temp. Force and had been a substitute teacher. Phyllis was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. When she was younger she had a love for horses and owned a horse. She earned many awards with her horse. Phyllis was very active with The Hershey Community Chorus, where she would travel extensively throughout Europe. She enjoyed going to The Hershey Theatre and traveling to various nursing homes to perform for the residents. She and her late husband, Brad, enjoyed going to the movies and traveling throughout the world. Her hobbies included reading, cross stitch, and playing piano.
Phyllis J. Allen, 85, of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday July 25, 2018, at Stone Ridge Poplar Run. She was the wife of the late Bradley L. “Brad” Allen, who passed away in 2016.

Verdolini of Homosassa, Florida, passed away at Seven Rivers Regional Medical center in Crystal River, Florida on July 25, 2018. Ralph was a longtime resident of Gillett, PA.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1929, to a large Italian family in Easton, Pennsylvania. He has resided in Homosassa, Florida, for the last 15 years. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Sue) Verdolini; stepchildren, Dorothy Biby of Virginia, Connie (Ken) Rusin of East Smithfield, Pennsylvania, George Gurnsey of Inverness, Florida, and April Beck of Brooksville, Florida; and a sister, Lillian Scampinni of San Francisco, California. He had six step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents; four brothers; his first wife, Anna Mahosky Gurnsey; and his step-daughter-in-law, Sharon Gurnsey. Ralph was in the Merchant Marines for 14 years, then moved to the Gillett, Pennsylvania, area and worked as a carpenter. Ardena Tyler, in her 100th year, Columbia Cross Roads, passed away on July 25, 2018 at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Ardena Fern, “Dena” was born October 5, 1918, in Springfield Township. She was a daughter of the late Arden Theodore and M. Pearl (Roberts) Seymour. Ardena married Herbert Henry Tyler on April 3, 1938 in the Waverly Baptist Church parsonage and they were blessed with seven children. In addition to her devoted care of family and home, Dena was employed by the Troy Area School District as a cafeteria worker and teacher’s aide at the Springfield and Troy locations. She was a member of the Big Pond Methodist Church. She enjoyed all types of music, square dancing, knitting, crocheting and crafts. Surviving are her children; Floyd (Arlene) Tyler, Lorraine (Del) Resmer, Columbia Cross Roads, Wayne (Vickie) Tyler, Florida, Dale (Kathy) Tyler. Columbia Cross Roads and Paul Tyler, Long Island, NY; 27 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren and 31 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia “Pat” Hartford, 81, Alba, passed away at home while surrounded by loved ones early Tuesday morning, July 24, 2018.
Born June 12, 1937 in Troy, PA, Patricia Ann was one of five children of the late Earl and Ethel (Bailey) May. She married Dale R. Hartford on Aug. 13, 1955, in Troy. They shared 48 years together before his passing on April 17, 2004. Caring for family and home came first in Pat’s life. She always looked forward to spending time with her children and she cherished her grandchildren. She enjoyed several hobbies, especially camping with Dale, fishing and tending her flower beds and vegetable gardens. Pat was a big fan of her family’s participation in local demolition derbies and will be lovingly remembered for her special kiss on the cheek, “for luck”. She also was very talented with crocheting and made beautiful blankets for loved ones. Bruce Lent Jr., 81, Bentley Creek, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018.
Bruce was born in Troy on August 27, 1936 the son of Bruce P. Lent and Beatrice Berry Lent. He was a graduate of Troy High School and later served in the U.S. Navy. On December 25, 1956, Bruce married Claudette M. Hendershot at the North Towanda United Methodist Church and they enjoyed many happy years together until her passing on May 10, 2017. Bruce was formerly employed by Westinghouse in Horseheads, NY, McClain Construction and Welliver Construction. Bruce enjoyed the outdoors, cutting wood, gardening, walking, hunting, and attending tractor pulls. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will also be remembered as a hard worker his entire life. Doris P. (Casterlin) Taylor, 79, went to be with her Lord on Thurs. evening July 19, 2018. Doris was born April 16, 1939. She was predeceased by her parents, James & Gladys Casterlin & her son, Larry Benedict. She is survived by her loving husband. Lee Taylor, married for 38 years, daughter, Linda Howard, three granddaughters, Penny Fox, Richelle Howard, Amanda Haynes, nine great grandchildren, best family friends, Dan & Gabe Mastrinardi & their two sons, brothers in law Allen (Betty) Taylor and Duane (Janeita) Taylor of Canton, sister in law Faye (Barry) Hartman, Danville, PA and several nieces and nephews and lots of other friends. Rose (Haungs) Harely, 78, Troy, passed away on July 19, 2018. She was born into the Mohawk Nation on the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve, Ontario, Canada.
A Master in the art of beadwork, she has over the years taught so many this beautiful technique so it would not be a lost art. Known to all as “Dota” (native word meaning Elder/grandmother), a woman with a beautiful and loving spirit who will be missed and loved by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband Charlie (2008). She is survived by children Deborah (David) Fogleman, Sandra (Richard) Pilling, Kenneth (Tracy) Haungs, Robert (Nicole) Harley and Karen (Ralph) Sorrentino; 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Quote “My Soul remains free, with the eagle it flies”. We love you Mom (my darling). Nina M. (Teribury) Vroman, 97, of Troy, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Bradford County Manor.
Nina was born on June 22, 1921 in Ralston, daughter of the late Elra and Bertha (Guthrie) Teribury. She was a supervisor at BroDart, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, and enjoyed bingo, reading, crocheting, and quilting. Nina is survived by her children: John (Nancy) Vroman, Grover, Elra (Sarah) Vroman, Machias, NY, Ida (Dean) Finnerty, Columbia Cross Roads, Margaret McCarthy, Edgewater, FL, Howard (Bonnie) Vroman, Troy, Thomas (Alice) Vroman, South Williamsport, along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. John Huntington Ellis, Canton and Williamsport, passed away on June 15, his 86th birthday. John’s wife, Alberta “Jean” Toner and his older brother, Edward G. Ellis Jr., predeceased him. He leaves two step-children, Judy Lohman and John Ford and their children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert “Doc” Ellis (Marilyn); his nieces and nephews and their families. He graduated from Canton High School, photography school, and (then) Williamsport Tech. He was a photographer, the sailor of a boat he built himself, chief engineer at WLYC for thirty years. He loved music and played the clarinet. He was a self-taught drummer who played in local bands, including the McNett brothers. All this with acute visual problems. He was known for his humorous ways with words and friendliness. He will be missed. Herbert W. Brown II, 69, of Ulster, PA passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Robert Packer Hospital following a period of declining health.
He was born on March 9, 1949 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Ira Albert and LuCelia E. (Ford) Brown. Herbert was a truck driver for many years until his health prevented him from continuing that job. He loved farm work and was always willing to help-out on many locally owned farms. He loved animals of any kind. Herbert was an avid hunter, fisherman, and reader. He especially enjoyed books by Stephen King, and in the past few years read many different religious books of all kinds. He is predeceased by his daughter, Norma Jean brown, an infant brother, and sister, JoAnn Lewis. |
