He was born on Feb. 7, 1929, to a large Italian family in Easton, Pennsylvania. He has resided in Homosassa, Florida, for the last 15 years.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Sue) Verdolini; stepchildren, Dorothy Biby of Virginia, Connie (Ken) Rusin of East Smithfield, Pennsylvania, George Gurnsey of Inverness, Florida, and April Beck of Brooksville, Florida; and a sister, Lillian Scampinni of San Francisco, California. He had six step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by his parents; four brothers; his first wife, Anna Mahosky Gurnsey; and his step-daughter-in-law, Sharon Gurnsey.
Ralph was in the Merchant Marines for 14 years, then moved to the Gillett, Pennsylvania, area and worked as a carpenter.
He was a member and Past Master of Trojan Masonic Lodge 306, in Troy, Pennsylvania and a 32nd degree Mason in the Valleys of Towanda and Williamsport Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rites.
Mr. Verdolini was life member, active firefighter, past president, past vice president, and past trustee for the South Creek Volunteer Fire Deptartment, and was selected as Firefighter of the Year three times: 1978, 1993, and 2000.
He was on the Troy Fair Board and volunteered at the Troy Fair for years. He volunteered as a “Friendly Visitor” to persons in nursing homes and delivered meals on wheels. He and his first wife put on many, many banquets for the local fire departments and for other organizations.
Ralph’s dedication to his community, his brilliant smile, his stories, and his great food will be remembered by so many.
At Ralph’s request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home, Crystal River, Florida.
