Martha Winifred “Winnie” Wood, 95, formerly of Troy and Towanda, passed away Wednesday evening, September 27, 2017 at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital while surrounded by loved ones.  
 Born February 10, 1922 in Overton, PA, she was a daughter of the late W. Earl and Edna Rose (Voorhis) Brown.  Love for family and friends always came first in Winnie’s life.  Her thoughtfulness will be missed by many as she especially loved giving and receiving cards.  She also appreciated all types of flowers.
 Surviving are four children; Thomas E. Jennings, West Franklindale, Janet M. Jennings Messenger, Troy, Ronald D. (Madge) Jennings of New Hampshire and Deb (Rod) Manley, Troy; special friend and companion, James VanNess, Monroeton; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; Cindy Jennings of Texas and Peggy Jennings of Ohio.  Also, dear friend Pastor George Ogden, Sylvania and many nieces, nephews, cousins.

  D. Jane Burke, 82, of Towanda, Pennsylvania, a resident of the Sherwood Personal Care Home, Canton, passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 19, 2017 at the Troy Community Hospital.
  Jane was born on Feb. 18, 1935 in Towanda, the daughter of Stephen E. Miller and Floris L. Sherman Miller. She was a graduate of Towanda High School class of 1953. Jane was a well-known seamstress in the area, operating her sewing business from her home. In early years she was employed by Dushore Lingerie and later operated a dairy bar in New Albany, Pennsylvania for several years. Jane was employed by E.I. DuPont in Towanda for 10 years until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, reading and working crossword puzzles.  ​

   On the evening of September 18, 2017, Beverly Jane (Mason) Knights, 91, formerly of Troy, PA, passed away at Memorial Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda, PA. 
    Born on March 30, 1926, in Checkerville, she was the daughter of John and Emma (Dunbar) Mason. Beverly graduated from Troy High School. 
    On September 14, 1946 she married Everett F. Knights and they had 48 happy years before his passing on September 24, 1994. Beverly worked at the East Troy Diner, the Sylvania Plant, McCabe's Drug Store, Cooke’s Pharmacy, and American Silk Label, all in Troy. She was a member of the Wheel Inn Club. Her interests were organizing family outings with her sisters and camping.
    Surviving are sons, Mason Alan (Patricia) Knights of Troy and Timothy (Kelly) Knights of Corning, NY.; grandchildren, Thomas (Kristie) Knights, Saxonburg, PA, Christy (Brian) Palmer, Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA, Brittany Knights, Buffalo, NY, and Jason (Amanda) Herrick, Canandaigua, NY. Great grandchildren are Katie Knights, Maddie Guthrie, Kam Guthrie, Damian Palmer, Theron Palmer, Taylor Palmer, and Ava Palmer; many beloved nieces and nephews and very special friends, Amber Cook and family.

    On the evening of September 18, 2017, Beverly Jane (Mason) Knights, formerly of Troy, PA, passed away at the Memorial Skilled Nursing Unit in Towanda, PA. She was 91 years of age.
    Family and friends are welcome to call from 12:00-1:00 pm on Saturday October 14,  at the Springfield Baptist Church 3131 Springfield Road, Columbia Cross Roads, PA.
     The Memorial Service to honor Beverly’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on October 14th at the church with her pastor, Rev. Daniel Graham officiating.
     The Gerald Vickery Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. will be handling the arrangements.

  Elsa Maria Walter, 91, a long- time resident of Leroy PA., passed into the presence of her loving Savior on Friday, September 15, in Tucson, AZ with her family by her side.
    Elsa was born on September 8, 1926 to the late Ralph and Xenia Erickson in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from Olney High School.
    On August 27, 1955 she married the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Walter in Philadelphia, PA. They were blessed with three children and shared over 54 years together before his passing on May 30, 2010. Elsa and Ted moved their family from Philly to the Leroy area in 1970 after spending many happy summers at their cabin in Wheelerville.
    Elsa worked in the Canton Area Head Start Program and was an active member of the Canton Garden Club. She was a member of the Independent Baptist church of Towanda, PA. and was a faithful witness for Christ.
    Elsa was blessed with the gift of ministering to others as she opened her heart and home to many. She also used her gift as an accomplished pianist to serve her Lord, but above all she showed sacrificial love and grace to her husband and family.
    Elsa is survived by three children: daughters, Lisa Ann Kester (James), Tucson, Az, Dale Louise Gilmore (Randal) Fisher, IN and son, Ted Walter, Leroy, PA. as well as 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

   On the morning of  Thursday, September 14th, 2017, Daniel D. Woodward of Troy passed away quietly  at Bradford County Manor.  He was 93 years of age.          Born August 24th, 1924 on the family farm in Ward Township, Tioga County Pa., he was the son of John and Minnie (Rudy) Woodward.   
     Dan grew up as the typical farm boy who was well accustomed with hard work.  He was endowed with a strong work ethic which served him well throughout his life.  Besides his own family farm he worked at several neighboring farms.  
    As an adult Dan was employed as a machine operator at Schrader-Bellows, the Belmar Company (where he met his wife, Louise) and Swayze Folding Box Co.  He was known for his great sense of humor and for being a jack-of-all-trades.  ​

   Kenneth Francis “Ken” Harris, 89, of Mountain Lake, Burlington Township, PA passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Ken was born at New Era, PA on April 4, 1928, the son of Frank McCullough Harris and Lorena Scrivens Harris. He was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1949.
  On April 8, 1950, he married the former Dorothy M. “Dot” Andrus at the Burlington United Methodist Parsonage. In early years, Ken was employed by Cox’s Tire Shop in Towanda and by Westinghouse Corp. in Elmira, NY. He owned and operated his dairy farm at Mountain Lake for many years and continued working on the farm until the time of his passing. Ken also served as a school bus driver for the Troy School District for a number of years. He was a member of the Burlington United Methodist Church, Iona Grange, Bradford-Sullivan Pomona Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange, and was a 7th degree member of the National Grange. Ken was also a member of the Holstein USA Association for 47 years, Pennsylvania Holstein Association, Towanda Bowling Hall of Fame and the Troy Bowling Hall of Fame.  He loved the outdoors, farming, bowling, playing cards and dancing.
