Later she was secretary for the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) until retiring in 2007, following nearly 20 years. For over 15 years, Marie was very active with the Rekindle the Spirit Organization and was instrumental in starting their Victorian Country Christmas at the Manley Bohlayer Farm. Marie and Gene also helped with the farm’s car shows, cider mill and black smith shop. For 21 years they housed deer hunters in their home making many longtime friends.
Marie Kennedy, 74, lifelong resident of Canton, Pa., passed away Friday morning, May 31, 2019 while surrounded by loved ones at the Robert Packer Hospital in SayreElla Marie was born Aug. 21, 1944 in Canton, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Helen (Crain) Bulkley. She was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School and on Aug. 17, 1963, married the love of her life, Gene Kennedy in the former Canton Methodist Church. Devotion to family and home came first for Marie. She also was a wonderful cook and talented pie baker. Marie was passionate about all animals and especially loved and pampered her cats.

Jay “Jake” Spencer, 90, of Franklindale, Pa., passed away May 31, 2019 at the Bradford County Manor.
A memorial service to honor Jake’s life will be held July 19, from 4-8 p.m. at the Bridge Street VFW, 3057 Bridge Street Hill Road, Towanda, Pa 18848. Born on Feb. 9, 1943, Joann Marie, “Tilly” to family and friends, was one of eight children of the late Alfred and Glenda (Swain) Rusk. Tilly was a member of Canton High School’s graduating class of 1961. She grew up in Grover and was quite the tomboy; playing a lot of baseball and hunting deer with her brothers. Tilly learned a lifelong appreciation of nature early and found contentment being outdoors all her life. On June 27, 1970, she married Melvin “Shack” Deitrick in the Ogdensburg Church. For a time, Tilly worked for A & P Grocery in Elmira and the former Glamorize Sewing Company in Williamsport and Canton, but her heart was always where home and family were. She was an avid flower and vegetable gardener, bird watcher and loved animals, supporting several animal rescue causes. She was also interested in politics and a devoted Democrat. Kirtis John Geer, age 38, of Franklin Township, Pa., passed away unexpectedly at his home.
“Curly” as he was known by friends, was born Mar. 17, 1981 in Sayre, Pa., to David and Wanita (Carl) Geer. Kirt attended Towanda High School and was a graduate of the class of 1999 and also Northern Tier Career Center in Towanda, Pa., where he obtained his Electrical Certification. He was employed by the Bradford County Correctional Facility as a maintenance worker. Kirt was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles and ATVs. He could often be found tinkering on engines or anything mechanical. He had a kind heart and a warm smile that will be remembered by all who knew him. Even keeled, voice of reason, a calm in the storm, a blessing… there will never be enough words to accurately portray the exceptional man David was, and losing such a man is a devastating blow to all who knew and loved him. David, 65 years old, residing in Troy, Pa. passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
David was born Nov. 30, 1953, in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to the late Oral & Ella Malosh. He was proud to be baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 12, 1968. From July 1973 to June 1975 he volunteered at the World Headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses located at the time in Brooklyn N.Y. He continued in that work at the new printery in Wallkill, N.Y. David worked in the pre-press department becoming a skilled hot metal plate maker. It was in Brooklyn, N.Y. where David met Eileen Hickok of Troy, the true love of his life. The two were married on June 5, 1976. Together they worked as volunteers at Wallkill for close to 20 years, where David was involved in pre-press, factory projects, purchasing and in the construction office. David then started a new career in real estate/appraisals. In the last few years David was able to use this vast experience to assist the LDC, which cares for the needs of places of worship for Jehovah’s Witnesses. Challenging, but fun to him, this was a privilege that he genuinely cherished. With great sadness, the family of Jefferey Jerome Wynne shares the news of his passing on May 21, 2019. Jefferey was born in Elmira, N.Y., to Jerome and June Wynne of Canton, Pa. He was a graduate of Canton Area Jr./Sr. High School and St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa.
As a child, Jeff played Little League Baseball with the Ogdensburg Country Boys. An avid sports fan, health conditions prevented him from playing more, though he enjoyed watching football, baseball and hockey. Jeff was an Elmira Jackals Season Ticket Holder for many seasons. Unable to play football in High School, he served as a manager for the Canton Warriors Football Team for six years. Along with sports, Jeff was an accomplished musician who played both piano and guitar. He was also a fan of movies and reading, particularly those of the Super Hero and Star Wars genre. Jack Glenn Brenchley (Oct. 31, 1950 – May 20, 2019) - On May 20, 2019 John (Jack) Brenchley passed into the presence of His Lord, Jesus Christ, after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. John is survived by his wife Kathleen Brenchley, Lynette Hawes (daughter), Rebecca Sleeger (daughter), Amanda Ragsdale (daughter), Anthony Brenchley (son) and 12 grandchildren. Jay “Jake” Perry Spencer, 90, extremely well-known resident of Franklin Township, Pa. passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Bradford County Manor.
Jake, as he was known to by everyone, was born May 31, 1928 in Granville Summit, Pa. to the late Miles and Madeline (Bunyan) Spencer. He attended Towanda High School and upon leaving school, at an early age, entered in the U.S. Navy for six years proudly serving during WWII on a refueling ship. Following his honorable discharge, Jake had many vocations throughout his life time. He was a local truck driver and dairy farmer in his earlier years, operated a local lime spreading business and sold race horses throughout Pennsylvania, New York, Chicago and Kentucky. He was a distinguished auctioneer for both Spencer Auctions locally and Martin Auctioneers in New Holland, Pa., where he auctioned household and farm items as well as real estate. Jake was a former president of the Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association, a member of the Towanda VFW, Kellogg Mt. Rod and Gun Club, Odd Fellows and the “Old Bastards Club” both of Towanda. He once ran for Bradford County Commissioner with the campaign slogan " Make no mistake vote for Jake” and nearly won. Jake had a gift for being a story teller, mostly always true. When his health permitted, he could often be found at the local restaurant or coffee shops, knowing everyone there. Jake will always hold a very special place in many hearts. He was a kind, caring man and will be missed greatly by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. On the morning of Sunday, May 12, 2019, Canton resident Donald E. Preston. Sr. passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was 64 years of age. Born Oct. 17, 1954 in Sayre he was the son of Marshall D. Preston, Sr., and Opal (Grabb) Preston.
Following his graduation from Waverly High School enlisted in the United States Army. After returning to civilian life he was employed at the former Canton Manufacturing Co. as a machine operator. He was married to the former Cynthia Hartzig, with whom he raised three sons. Donnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as tinkering with machines and engines. He was an outgoing, friendly man who was always ready and willing to help anyone in need, more especially if it concerned car trouble. He was an animal lover in general and enjoyed the loyal companionship of his canine buddy, Chevy. Sue Anne Keiffer, 79 of Canton, Pa., formerly of Dryden, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
Sue Anne was born in Midland, Pa. on Aug. 5, 1939 to the late Wellington “Tam” and Virginia (Hall) Graham. On June 27, 1959 she married the love of her life, Edward “Eddie” Keiffer in the St. John’s Methodist Church in Grover, sharing 60 wonderful years together. Upon graduating from Canton Area High School, class of 1958, Sue was employed for several years by George Jr. Republic Private School in Freeville, N.Y. and later by Dr. Donlick as a medical assistant in Groton, N.Y. for 15 years. Sue’s biggest accomplishment in her life was her family, especially her three daughters. She was lovingly known as the family’s “mama bear.” Sue enjoyed time spent with her family, picnics at any time of the year and the hunting cabin in Roaring Branch. She had a huge love of all animals and always hoped that nobody was successful in their hunt at camp. Sue was an avid golfer, once earning a hole in one. Sue and Eddie always looked forward to traveling to Alexandria Bay on the Saint Lawrence River. She was also very proud of her husband Eddie’s football history at Canton High and Syracuse University. Sue was a woman of the Christian Faith and loved the lord. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by an infant son, Klarck. |
