(Greeno) Austin, 92, of Troy, went home to her Lord and Savior on early Tuesday morning, December 22, 2020, at her home while surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy Arlene was born on September 27, 1928 in East Troy to the late Caleb and Gladys (Allyn) Greeno. She attended Troy Area Schools and graduated with the class of 1946. On April 5, 1947 she married her soulmate, Edward “Mike” Austin in the Troy Baptist Parsonage. Together they shared 69 years of marriage before his death on February 19, 2017. Dorothy was an 80-year dedicated life member of the East Troy Baptist church. She seen to most of the activities that were held at the church and served as a Deaconess, Trustee and Custodian. Dorothy was also a member of the Troy American Legion Auxiliary. She was employed as the Deli Manager at the Super Duper in Troy for many years until her retirement in 1995. Dorothy will be remembered as an amazing cook and baker. Her delicious chocolate chip cookies were always a favorite with family and friends. She was able to fulfill a life-long dream of seeing the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas thanks to her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Bonnie Austin. Most importantly, Dorothy was a devoted family woman, always looking forward to time spent with her grandchildren. Surviving are her children; Larue (Carlene) Austin of Big Pond, Wesley Austin of Troy, Ronald (Bonnie) Austin of Columbia Cross Roads, Mickey (Barbara) Austin of Troy, Cinda Baumunk of Troy, Nadine (Tom) Furman of Big Pond and Julie (Jeff) Strope of Columbia Cross Roads, 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, three great greatgrandchildren, a sister; Shirley Kinsman of Troy, two sisters in law; Phyllis Austin, Edna Landon both of Canton, several nieces’ nephews, dear friends and neighbors. Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was predeceased by a son Larry Austin, a grandson, Grant Furman and brother; Robert Greenough. Due to the current pandemic and its restrictions; a private funeral service will be held at Dorothy’s beloved East Troy Baptist Church. For the last two years the staff and residents had become part of her extended family. The family would also like to recognize the care provided by Guthrie Hospice. She was born March 1, 1928 in Ogdensburg, Pennsylvania to Clarence and Emma (Watkins) Austin. She was a 1946 graduate of Canton High School, and on July 10, 1947 she married Harold L. Landon in Canton. They were married 53 years, until his death in 2001. She is survived by her children: Dennis Landon (Lana), Nancy Hardy (Ken Russo), Susan Perfetti (Joseph Previte), Perry Landon (Anne), Brian Landon, Jana Strong (Gregory), and Robert Landon. She also leaves 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Elwin, David, Edward, and Leon, and her sister, Virginia (Roupp). Early in their marriage Edna helped operate Landon’s Market on Troy Street in Canton, and after raising her children she began a career in education, working as a teacher’s aide for the Canton School District and then as a Family Advocate with Bradford-Tioga Head Start. After Harold’s retirement she and he operated H&E Orchard at the Landon family farm in North Union. She was an active volunteer with the Canton Food Pantry, the Canton Clothing Center, and the Salvation Army, Girl Scouts and 4-H. She was an early leader with the Canton Apple-Cheese Festival. She was a lifelong member of the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) where she served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. She served on the governing board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pennsylvania and was a passionate worker and advocate for the Nordmont Christian Camp until its closing. Late in her life she worshipped with the North Union Christian Church. The family is planning a public memorial service when it is safe to do so. Schmelzle left this earthly life to be with his Lord and Savior on December 16th in his home in Ogdensburg PA surrounded by his family. Ted was the only child of the late Maynard and Helen (Williams) Schmelzle. He lived in Ogdensburg PA for most of his life, save 2 years in Louisiana when he served his country as a drill sergeant for the US Army. He graduated from Canton High School in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart Norma Jean on Christmas Eve of 1955 and they were married nearly 65 years. Ted loved his family, his church, and his farm. His time with Norma, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought him so much joy. His sense of humor and love for each one never left him. As he grew older, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch of his home and sharing stories of his early years growing up in Ogdensburg and his time in the service. He was a life-long member of the Ogdensburg Church of Christ and served as an elder of the church. He was always ready to serve on a committee and sang hymns with his beautiful baritone voice. He loved his Lord, and his deep faith was part of his life as a farmer. Ted loved his time on his farm. He developed a prized herd of Holstein cattle and served on various dairy associations including Sire Power, DHIA, and the Holstein Association. He was an early conservationist as he recognized the importance of crop rotation and allowing the land to rest. He also sold seed corn for 20 years to farmers in the area. Because of his strong faith in his Lord, he was rarely rattled by the weather as he knew that God was with him. Ted enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Ogdensburg Gun Club for many years and often took his grandchildren hunting. His love of fishing took him to Canada many times with family and friends and you could always count on him agreeing to a game of Euchre. Besides his parents, Ted was predeceased by great-grandson, Evan Andrew Pepper, sister-in-law Audrey Johnson and her husband Noel Johnson, and brother-in-law Larue Fitzwater. Ted is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; daughters Brenda (Tom) Pepper, Barbara (Jon) Buxton of Tunkhannock, PA; grandchildren Travis (Amanda) Pepper, Taylor (Lacy) Pepper, Andy (Shawna) Pepper, Jonathan (Kristen) Pepper, Leah (Addison) Martin of Philadelphia, PA, Josiah Buxton of Chantilly VA, and Jesse Buxton of Wellsville, NY, and great-grandchildren, Levi, Alyssa, Grant, Barrett, Addilyn, Jake, Grayson, Abraham, Leland, Emilia, Elsie, Lyla, Jace, and Lance Pepper. Although an only child, the Fitzwater family accepted him as one of their own and he leaves behind brothers and sisters and their families. A private funeral service was conducted at the Ogdensburg Church of Christ on Saturday, December 19th, 2020 with Pastor Josh Kelly and Rev. Jon Buxton presiding. (Stahli) Yale, widow of Jack Yale, of Troy, passed away peacefully December 18, 2020 at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home where she resided since 2017. Born in Westfield October 12, 1922, she was a daughter of Andrew and Bessie (Draper) Stahli. Evelyn graduated from Troy High School, Class of 1941. She worked for Seymour and Wanetta Barrett at the Ben Franklin store for 14 years and retired after 25 years from Edgewood Dairy where she was a bookkeeper-secretary. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Troy. Evelyn was an avid bowler, golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and her computer. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by sons Dean (Judy) Yale, Kissimmee, Florida, and Dale (Kim) Yale, Montoursville, PA; grandchildren Ryan (Christine) Yale and sons Hunter and Walker, Nanticoke, PA; and Lindsay Bogart and sons Kaleb and Kaden, Troy, PA; sister June Sabatini, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were sisters Elda Horton, Erma Hill, Edna Draper and brothers Lincoln and Kenneth Stahli. Ives, widower of Joyce (Smith) Ives, of Canton, (North Union, Tioga County) passed away at Broad Acres Nursing Facility in Wellsboro on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the age of 93. Floyd Versal was born in Roaring Branch on January 2, 1927 to the late Versal and Alta (Rauscher) Ives. He attended Roaring Branch Elementary Schools and Canton High School. Floyd proudly served our country in the United States Navy. He served the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas as a Seaman Guard and Traffic Police. On May 7, 1948 he married the love of his life, Joyce Maxine Smith. It was very rare to see them without each other. On March 10, 1957 Floyd and Joyce bought their first and only home where the raised their three children. He and Joyce were members of the North Union Church where Floyd served as a trustee. Ivan Keith Finogle, 52, of Steubenville, Ohio; peacefully passed away with his sister, Faye and niece, Carolann, by his side on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. He was the son of the late Arthur and Carol Kipp and Charles Finogle, born on February 14th, 1968. Ivan was a 1986 graduate of Canton Area Junior-Senior High School. He faced a high risk and complicated open heart surgery with grace and bravery. Ivan was a kind, loving, intelligent, and happy-go-lucky man with a great sense of humor. He was a social butterfly and seemed to make friends everywhere he went. Ivan loved to hunt on his Aunt Toddy and Uncle Ray’s property. He was happy to share the family tradition with his nephew, Brent, when he took him out hunting for his very first time. He also enjoyed fishing, especially during his time living in Florida. Ivan was a huge music buff. He was known as DJ TROLLMAN while working at UORadio.com. His DJ name was derived from his nickname, Troll, gained in his younger years. Ivan was a free spirit and wasn’t afraid to move around. Canton, PA; Ocala, FL; Mather, PA; and Steubenville, OH were a few of the places he called home. Not unlike his desire to move around, he also held many different job positions with companies such as: Kmart Distribution, Futures, and Shop Vac. Ivan had an amazing memory and was a vat of random knowledge. He would frequently be called by his sister, Faye, asking the name of songs or other random questions that she knew he would know. Ivan was also a bit of a historian. He thoroughly loved discussing history and telling long winded stories explaining the history of wars, countries, inventions, musicians, and so on. Howard J. Smith, Jr. 92, of West Burlington, PA, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the Robert Packer Hospital. He was the loving husband of Olynda A. (Chaffee) Smith. The couple married October 25, 1959 and had 61 happy years together. Howard was born on October 23, 1928 in Troy, PA, son of the late Howard J. and Eleanor (Rockwell) Smith, Sr. He graduated from Troy High School in 1946 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Finance from Bucknell University in 1950. Howard entered the U. S. Army by draft in 1950 and received a commission upon completion of Officer Candidate School in 1951. He served in Korea until separation from active duty in 1953 and received a battalion commander’s letter of commendation for performance as a platoon leader of the “Best Platoon in the Battalion.” Howard continued to serve actively for 21years in the United States Army Reserve until retirement in 1975, with the rank of Major. The last four years were served on the commanding general’s staff of the 77th United States Army Reserve Command. Charles W. “Jake” Randall, 90, died at Reading Hospital on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, after a short illness. He was the husband of Audrey L. (Greenough) Randall; they celebrated their 70th anniversary this October. Born in Roaring Branch, PA, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Marjorie (Campbell) Randall, Jake graduated from Canton High School in 1947, attended Mansfield Teachers’ College, and graduated from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI, earning his degree in Music Education. He was a music teacher for 20 years directing both elementary and high school bands, and teaching nearly every instrument, including the saxophone, clarinet, guitar, trumpet, and trombone. Jake retired from the Seventh-day Adventist Church World Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD in 1998. Jake was a member of the Hampden Heights (Reading) Seventh-day Adventist Church and a man of great Christian faith, dying in hope of the Resurrection. He was somewhat of a Renaissance Man. In addition to music, he loved birds, nature, and the outdoors. Jake was known for his construction skills and even built three homes mostly by himself. When he was younger, he enjoyed electronic models and stereo systems. Most of all, family was the epicenter of his life, and his loving relationship with Audrey from the beginning was an inspiration to all family and friends. In addition to his wife Audrey, Jake is survived by his daughters, Toni (Matthew) Wlasniewski, Hamburg and Vickie (David) Bugg, Hagerstown, MD and his son, Gary (Linda Adams) Randall, Cascade, MD. He leaves behind six loving grandchildren: Andy, Nicholas, Alexis, Nathan, Caitlyn, and Zachary, and seven great-grandchildren. His sister, Lucille Mase, also survives him. He was predeceased by his siblings, Joanne Gardner and Robert Randall. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
