​Roy James Cross

Roy James Cross, Sr., age 67, of Mainesburg, PA, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

He was born on April 18, 1954, in Blossburg, PA, a son of Clifford Cross, Sr. and Sarah (Aumick) Pfeifer. Roy was the husband of Elizabeth “Dolly” (Root) Cross with whom he enjoyed 49 years of matrimony. He was a former mail carrier and a heavy equipment operator for Cross Excavating and doing road maintenance for Sullivan Township along with subcontracting work on the Sullivan Trail.  He enjoyed his John Deere, hunting, and running backhoes.

Roy is survived by his wife, Dolly; son, Roy Cross, Jr. of Canton, PA; daughter, Terrie (Jonathan Hamm) Powell of Blossburg, PA; siblings, Donna Mae (Art) Kline of Mainesburg, PA, Ruth (Art) Cordova of Colorado Springs, CO, Cliff Cross of Covington, PA, Rosemary (Raymond) Barnes of Mansfield, PA and Jeffery Cross of Wellsboro, PA; stepbrother, Dennis (Verna) Correll of Williamsport, PA; stepsister, Donna (Larry) Rice of Mainesburg, PA; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Emilly Anderson, Ashelly Powell and Ryan Baughn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Sarah, along with his brother, Clayton Cross and stepbrother David Correll.

Friends and family are invited to call from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 P.M. with Bill Baker officiating.

​Drake Guthrie Morse

On the evening of Saturday June 26, 2021, Drake G. Morse passed away as a result of a motorcycle accident. 

Drake was born on August 11, 1954 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre PA, the son of Dean Stanley and Myra Guthrie Morse.  Drake was a 1972 graduate of Canton Area High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Mansfield University. In 1978 he married Lucinda Kilmer Morse and they had three children, Nikolas, Kylie, and Lauren and were married until 2000. After they were married, they moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where they owned and operated Total Eclipse Record store until 1989. In 1990 they relocated to Pennsylvania where he resided for the remainder of his life.  After returning to Pennsylvania, Drake began working in the insurance business and went on to own the Drake G. Morse Insurance Agency where he operated offices in Blossburg and Coudersport. 

Drake excelled in high school athletics  being a part of the football, basketball, and baseball teams.  He was a member of the 1972 NTL basketball championship team.  He continued to follow athletics and was a passionate Green Bay Packers Fan.  He was raised in the Canton Presbyterian Church.  Drake was a social member of the Morris Run American Legion Post 167 and the Wellsboro VFW. He was an avid music fan and enjoyed any concert he had the chance to attend.  Drake also enjoyed getaways to the family cottage in Orangeville and any chance to play a game of rings.  Drake enjoyed spending time with family and friends, but especially enjoyed time he spent with his grandchildren. 

Drake was predeceased by his father Dean (1991), his mother Myra (2009), and his brother Dale (2005).  He is survived by his children, Nikolas of Austin, TX, Kylie of Wellsboro, PA, and Lauren of Mansfield, PA, a brother David (Ruth) of Canton, PA, two grandchildren Dedric and Bridgette, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friend Cindy.

Visitation will be held 3:30-5:30pm on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home with a funeral service directly following at 5:30pm.

Donald A. Donato Sr.

Donald A. Donato Sr., 45, of Williamsport, formerly of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Williamsport.

​Alan Eugene Brotzman

On June 22, 2021 Alan Eugene Brotzman’s generous heart and soul went home.

Alan was born on November 4, 1953, the son of Francis Arthur and Jeanette Amanda (Salsman) Brotzman. Raised on his family farm, Alan never lost his hard work ethic or his sharp sense of humor. He retired as an over the road trucker and became an active member with the Canton Volunteer Fire Department and the Canton Moose Lodge 429 and was a board member of the Southern Tioga Youth Soccer. Friends and family recall sharing many laughs and smiles with him. They will also remember that Alan was always willing to help others regardless of the reason or need. 

Alan was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Jeanette Brotzman, brothers Randy, Dennis and Dale Brotzman and his daughter, Rebecca Ann Brotzman. 

Alan leaves behind his lifetime partner; Pam, daughters; Amey (John) Johnson and Karen (Ryan) Schultz, sons; Brian Schoonover and Chris (Hellen) Schoonover; grandchildren; Harley (Cory) Pigue, Adam and Alexandria Schultz, Issaiah and Blake Ayres, and great grandchildren Maddie and Alex Pigue. He is also survived by his sisters; Sue Teeter and Jean Ahlbrandt and brother; Ray Brotzman along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 5 P.M. on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility in Canton. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alan’s name to the organization of your choice or by becoming a registered organ donor or volunteer.

Gary “Butch” Montague Cass, age 67, passed away peacefully at Robert Packer Hospital on Monday June 1, 2021 after a valiant fight with Covid 19.

Gary “Butch” Montague Cass

Gary “Butch” Montague Cass, age 67, passed away peacefully at Robert Packer Hospital on Monday June 1, 2021 after a valiant fight with Covid 19. 

Butch was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Butch was born on December 18, 1953 in Sayre, PA. He graduated from Northeast Bradford Junior-Senior high school in 1972 where he was a proud cross country athlete. 

After high school He joined the U.S. Army, was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged after 6 years of credible service with a rank of Sergeant. 

He worked for Ames True Temper (formerly Ames) in Monroeton, Pa for 23 years, including the  majority of that time as the plant manager. Butch was a strong Christian and loved God. 

Being known as “Bullseye Butch,” he was an avid hunter, fishermen, gardener and carpenter. He loved Elvis Presley music and was known to do some great impressions (he even had a few Elvis costumes, and some hair dye when he really wanted to spice things up). Butch spoke very softly but when he did his words had true meaning, an impact, and people listened. He would hate to admit this but he was the life of the party and had a smile that lit up any room. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years Kimberly Cass, his children Brian Logue, Rachel Briggs, Brandon Logue (wife Bridget), his brothers Timothy Cass (wife Debbie Cass) and Randy Cass (wife Wendy Cass) and 9 grandchildren. Butch was preceded in death by his father Montague O’dell Cass, mother Vivian Ann Decker Cass and brother Robert O’dell Cass.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on July 8, 2021, 1 p.m., at the Victory Church in Troy, PA.

​Richard “Mike” Heeman

Richard “Mike” Heeman, 79, of Troy, passed away Sunday afternoon May 30, 2021 while at his home surrounded by family. 

Richard Michael was born in Sayre on August 22, 1941 a son of the late Lewis and Verta (Young) Woodward. Mike, as he was known by friends and family alike, was no stranger to hard work and at an early age left high school to accept employment. Later, he worked for Paper Magic in Troy for 30 years until its closure. Most recently Mike was employed by Sugar Creek Camper Sales in W. Burlington until retiring in 2011.

On August 19, 1979, he married the former Brenda Krise in Corpus Christi Texas. Together they shared nearly 42 years of devoted marriage and raised two sons.

The outdoors was Mike’s passion, he loved to hunt, fish and go camping.  A “jack of all trades” he was a talented woodworker and could fix just about anything he put his mind to.  If you needed help, he was there, especially for his beloved family and many friends.

Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by a sister; Judy White.

He leaves behind his wife, Brenda, sons; Richard (Jenifer) Heeman of Troy, Christopher (Erika) Heeman of Williamsport, grandchildren; Corbyn, Kristen, Chase and Alexandra, sister; Phyllis (Albert) Holbert of Rome, a brothers-in-law; Kenny White of Sayre and Duane (Delina) Krise of Leroy, best friend; Larry Sherman of Burlington, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 as well as 11 a.m. to noon Saturday June 5, at Pepper Funeral Home & Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. A funeral service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held at noon on Saturday with burial following in the Bradford County Memorial Park.

Ted Patterson Franklin

Ted Patterson Franklin, 79, beloved husband of Gail (Rockwell) Franklin, of Granville Summit, PA, well-known Land Surveyor, went to be with the Lord at his home on January 4, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer. 
A memorial service in Ted’s honor will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the LeRoy Community Center, Leroy, PA. Burial will be private.
