Albert L. McNeal, 54, of Granville Summit, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Albert Larue was born in Troy, PA on march 5, 1967 to Imogene (Selleck) McNeal and the late Bruce McNeal. He was employed by the Troy Area Schools as a custodian. Albert truly enjoyed every aspect of his job, especially the school’s staff and students. Albert was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching the birds at his feeders and bonfires with his friends and family. Albert always looked forward to going for car rides, especially roads he had never been on before. Not knowing where the roads may lead was the best part and a twenty-minute ride home could take hours. Most important to Albert, was his family and any time he was able to spend with them. Surviving Albert are his wife: Mary (Mortimer) McNeal, mother; Imogene (Selleck) McNeal, daughters; Sierra Hall and Ashley (Michael) Spencer, step-sons; Daniel (Shellie) Cranmer and Timothy (Danielle) Cranmer, 7 grandchildren, life long best friend; Clifton Heasley, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was born January 8, 1938 in Canton, a son of Daniel McNeil and Blanche MacCauley Hallett, Sr. He married his college sweetheart Elizabeth R. Gillette June 27, 1960 in Elkton, MD. Dan was a 1955 graduate of Canton High School, 1959 graduate of Mansfield State College with a B.S. in Music Education, and 1965 graduate of Penn State University with a M.S. in Music Education. He was further educated in piano technology at Chautauqua Institution and at the Randy Potter School. Dan taught elementary music and strings for three years at Bradford Area School District, elementary and instrumental music at Townville Elementary School, and at Maplewood Junior Senior High School where he served as choral director until his retirement. He was also self-employed for many years with Hallett’s Piano Service. Dan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he was active in the Chancel Choir for many years. He was a member of the Piano Technician’s Guild and became a registered piano technician in 1980. He was a member of Yesterday’s Sound Barbershop Chorus where he served as the director for 7 years and was Barbershopper of the year in 1995. He was a former member and past master of Masonic Lodge 408. Dan enjoyed playing the piano, singing, golfing, keeping in touch with friends, keeping up with the Cleveland Browns, reading, watching sports on television, and ancient history. He loved vocal music and determined that anyone in his music classes who wanted to sing would have success. He was fondly known by his students as the “music man.” Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Betty, include a daughter, Marian Christine (Christy) Hornstein of Meadville; a son, Daniel McNeil Hallett, III of Meadville; four grandchildren, Holly Ruggiere of Austin, TX, and Alicia, Samantha, and Elizabeth (Libby) Hornstein, all of Meadville; two great-grandchildren, Carmen and Dominic Catalano; one niece and two nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Penelope Hallett Krepps. Family and friends were received on Sunday, May 23rd from 12 to 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville where the memorial service followed at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Born on February 11, 1927, in Waverly, Ohio, Mary was the daughter of the late Clarence and Pauline (Foster) Ewing. Mary graduated from her hometown high school in Waverly and continued her education at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio where she obtained her RN diploma and then further continued her education at Ohio State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in education in 1951. Months later, Mary married John M. Lynch and started her career in Dayton, Ohio. John and Mary consequently settled in Canton, Pennsylvania in 1963 where they raised their five children. Mary was best known for being the school nurse at Canton Junior/Senior High School for over 15 years. Mary enjoyed golfing, volunteering at the Green Free Library, attending St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and visiting with her many friends and family. She was also a devoted and life-time fan of her Ohio State Buckeyes. Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, her brother, Robert Ewing, and sister, Jane Mossbarger. She is survived by her children; Clorinda Lynch of New York, NY, Betsy Lynch of Westminster, MD, Mark (Kathy) Lynch of Wilmington, NC, Michael (Leslie) Lynch of Casselberry, FL, Robert (Penny) Lynch of Westminster, MD, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and former students. Lydia Faye was born October 2, 1932 in Peach Creek, West Virginia, one of eight children in the family of the late Sidney and Carrie (Estep) Jeffrey. Lydia attended Logan County High School and was a graduate of the class of 1951. On August 17, 1956 she married the late Ray “Pete” Peterson. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on June 13, 2010. Pete and Lydia raised two children, Teresa and Brian. Lydia was employed by Canton Manufacturing (Shop Vac) for over 25 years until her retirement in 1997. Lydia’s family always came first; she was happiest while spending countless hours with her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She took great pride in caring for her home and on surprise occasions cleaning for her children. Lydia enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, soap operas and sitting on her front porch. Surviving Lydia are a daughter; Teresa (Timothy) Scott, son; Brian (Jodi) Peterson all of Canton, grandchildren; Kristyn (Peter) Spelina, Brooks (Ashley) Scott, Megan (Josh) Slocum and Corey Peterson, great-grandchildren; Brennan and Annika Scott and Harper and Saylor Slocum, sister; Barb (Larry) Robison of South Carolina, brother; Kenny (Carol) Jeffrey of Michigan, sister-in-law; Norma Jeffery of W. Carlyle “Corky” Bagley, Jr. 74, former long-time resident of Canton, passed away Friday May 21, 2021 while at his home in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania. Carlyle Leon, Jr. was born in Canton on November 29, 1946 a son of the late Carlyle Sr. and Eloise (Thomas) Bagley. Corky, as he was known by friends and family alike, attended Canton Area Schools. Corky was a natural born traveler and often hitched hiked his way on his adventures. He travelled out west periodically in his youth armed with nothing more than his kind demeanor, intuition & the ID tags made by his parents after his first adventure from home! He lived and worked at his family’s farm for most of his life. He was a doting uncle who played cards & games with his many nieces. He loved watching old western tv shows and movies. He was well taken care of in his golden years by the Wyalusing Valley Personal Care Home staff. Besides his parents, Corky was predeceased by a sister; Beverly, a brother; Roy and a brother-in-law; Michael Brutzman. Surviving is a brother; George (Char) Bagley of Washington, a sister; Sharon Brutzman of Bloomsburg, brother-in-law; Earl Ridall of Canton, several nieces and cousins. Elizabeth A. was born on April 17, 1931 in Canton to the late James and Gertrude (Bassett) Best. She attended Canton Area High School and was a graduate of the class of 1950. On April 18, 1950 she married the late Glen Morgan in Bel Air, Maryland. They shared 67 wonderful years of marriage and raised their beloved daughter Beverly. Betty was employed by the former Canton Manufacturing for 34 years until her retirement on July 31, 1997. She was a woman of faith in the Lord and was a member of the First Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) of Alba. Betty was only four days away from her 90th surprise birthday party that her immediate family was looking forward to celebrating with her. Betty enjoyed quilting, puzzle books, reading and shopping. She always looked forward to get-togethers with her cousins and large extended family. Most important to Betty was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Beverly Jean was born February 1, 1951, in Sayre, to the late Glen and Elizabeth (Best) Morgan. She was an only child born into a large extended family that gave her numerous special cousins who were just like siblings. Bev was a life-long member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Alba. She was very active in the church and served as; a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Deaconess, Christian Woman’s Fellowship Member, and anchor for the yearly Church Bazaar. Bev had a passion for quilting and was a member of the Loose Threads quilting club. She started when she made her first quilt for Brett and Karin’s wedding and made sure grandma Betty and grandma Doris stitched on the quilt as well. For over thirty years, following her first quilt, they both continued making them for many family members and friends. She also looked forward to the “marathon shopping days” with her “adopted sisters” Claire and Edye Waldemeyer. Beverly had many fond memories of times spent with her family, especially the Seeley Caribbean Cruise in 2016, where they needed twelve state rooms to house everyone, and their 50th wedding anniversary at the Alba Church of Christ in 2019. No family occasion was complete without one of Bev’s famous cakes that she proudly made. Beverly and Fred had a Christmas Room in their house, year-round, because Christmas was the most special day of their year. Beverly will be remembered for being a dedicated worker and was employed by Dr. Rathbun’s Granville Chiropractor Center. Bev retired after serving nearly 20 years as office secretary, following the birth of her first grandchild. She took great pride in caring for her family and was the most giving person you could ever meet, family or friend alike. He had a laughter of true innocence. He was known to be an instigator at times and laughed especially hard when his little brother, Cayson would happen to get in trouble. He was lovingly known as a “Little Joyo.”, a nick-name given to him by his Grammy.
