Irene is survived by her four sons and their wives, Jay and Faye Good, Canton, Pennsylvania, Clair and Beth Good, Kenya, Africa, Clifford and Cheryl Good, Muncy, Pennsylvania and Jeff and Denise Good, East Berlin, Pennsylvania.
Irene Martin Good of Canton, age 85, went to be with Jesus on Jan. 28, 2019. She was born Dec. 27, 1933 in Lancaster, Pa. Irene was married to the late Melvin Good on April 20, 1957. They celebrated 59 years of marriage before Melvin’s passing in October of 2016. Irene served countless people and ministries through her hospitality. She provided many warm meals and beds on short notice. Irene served beside Melvin to help on the farm, hosting the Glory Barn, pastoring and managing MMM Good Bed and Breakfast. She also helped with prison ministry at Bradford County prison for many years and with New Beginnings Ministry.

Thomas Lyle Byrne, Age 89, of Route 6, Troy, Pa., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Tom was born July 25, 1929 in Langhorne, Pa. and was a graduate of Troy High School. Following graduation he joined the US Army and served his country from 1953 to 1955. He was employed by American LaFrance in Elmira, N.Y. for many years, and later by the Troy School District where he was retired from. He enjoyed coffee with his friends at Troy Lanes and could always be found at lunchtime at the Troy Lunch.
Sharon Palmer Miller, 77, of 334 State Street in Towanda, Pa. passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2019. Born and raised in Troy, Pa., Sharon graduated from Troy High School with the class of 1959. Following high school, Sharon worked as an operator at the Commonwealth Telephone Company. On July 16, 1966, she married the love of her life, Michael J. Miller at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda.
Sharon and Mike built their life together in Towanda, raising four children and dedicating themselves to a range of community activities. With a passion for children, Sharon provided day care in their home for nearly a decade, from the early 1970s until about 1981. Sharon delighted in surrounding herself with children and took as much pride in watching her “Mrs. Miller’s kids” grow up as she did in her own children. Sharon eventually returned to work at the Commonwealth Telephone Company where she remained until retiring in February of 1999. Sharon was a devoted member of SS. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda, the Altar and Rosary Society and was an active volunteer and supporter of church activities and events. Most of all, Sharon was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all. She will be remembered for her kind and gracious personality, as well as her homemade baked goods, including English muffin bread, peanut brittle, and strawberry and peach jam. Marcia Randall, age 89 of Roaring Branch, Pa. passed away at her residence on Jan. 23, 2019. Born in LeRoy Township, Bradford County on Aug. 24, 1929, Marcia was a daughter of Ivan and Myra (Wilcox) Whipple. She was a member of the North Union Christian Church and enjoyed making flannel baby quilts, sewing, reading, and gardening. She especially enjoyed her beautiful lilies. She was a well-known community member formerly employed with First National Bank of Canton and GLS Agway.
Marcia is survived by her son Michael Sakers of Burlington, Pa.; a daughter-in-law LuAnn Sakers of Roaring Branch, Pa.; grandchildren Nicholas (Nina) Sakers, Ben (Shannon) Sakers, and Jack Sakers; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Jean (Clyde) Marshall and family of Liberty, Pa.; sisters Lorraine Chaapel and family of Elmira, N.Y. and Norma (John) Percival and family of Dushore, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Randall in 2007 whom she married on Oct. 4, 1960, her parents, son David Scott Sakers. Margaret “Peggy” Young entered eternal rest at her home in Troy, Pa. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019 at the age of 68.
Margaret Rose was born Mar. 20, 1950 in Sayre, Pa., a daughter of the late Paul and Alice (Homan) Bustin. She attended Athens Area High School where she was a graduate of the class of 1968. After high school she attended Misericordia University and Lock Haven University. Peggy was the manager of Widmann’s in Troy and Canton, Pa. until her kidney transplant and retirement in 1995. Following her kidney transplant, to promote organ donor awareness, Peggy then attended transplant games in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sydney, Australia, Orlando, Fla., and participated in Columbus, Ohio. Bruce I. Neifert, 66, of Canton, Pa., and, formerly of Tamaqua, Pa., died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 in Sayre, Pa. He was the husband of Lewann (nee Erbe) Neifert, to whom he was married 43 years. Born in Coaldale, Pa. on Feb. 18, 1952, Bruce was a son of the late Ruth (nee Zimmerman) and Kenneth E. Neifert, Sr.
A 1970 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he received his bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University in 1974, and his master’s degree from Wilkes University. A former educator in Tamaqua area, Bruce was a retired Assistant Principal at Canton Area Jr.-Sr. High School. He was a member and President of the Canton Lion’s Club, a former member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua and a consistent blood donor for the local blood drives. An avid USC and Penn State football fan, Bruce also enjoyed family vacations, traveling and the occasional casino trip. He absolutely loved his grandchildren and family events. Michael Joseph Pavlovsky, 80, of Granville Summit, Pennsylvania, passed away Jan. 20, 2019, at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and wonderful friend to all he knew. Michael was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. John Edward ‘Jack’ Covert, 82, of Ralston, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Catherine (Pongratz) Covert.
Born Aug. 3, 1936 in Somerville, Somerset County, N.J., he was the son of Abram and Grace (Drake) Covert. He was one of 11 children. Jack attended the Millstone School in Somerset and went on to own two successful businesses: Covert’s Excavating and Somerset and Jack’s Place in Ralston. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, The Red Run Rod and Gun Club, The Wheel Inn Private Club, The Somerset Volunteer Fire Company, where he was an officer for many years, the Franklin Farmer’s Hunting Club and a strong supporter of the National Rifle Association. Luna Grace Frey, infant daughter of Johannah Eckert and Kyler Frey, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 13, 2019 at the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. Luna was born a few short weeks ago on Dec. 3, 2018 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. She is survived by her mom and dad, Johannah and Kyler, her big sister, Sloane Catherine Frey, who are all of Troy, Pa., along with many close family and friends.
Jennie (Tice) Hill, 77 of Lowman, N.Y., unexpectedly passed away at her home on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019.
Jennie Pearl was born June 29, 1941 in Sayre, Pa., a daughter of the late Lewis and Julia (Comfort) Tice. She grew up in the Centerville area and was a 1961 graduate of SRU High School. Jennie was the wife of the late Clifford “Skip” Hill. While Jennie enjoyed her work at several establishments over the years, her devotion to family and home was her real calling in life. She was a member of North Chemung United Methodist Church and the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary. Jennie will be lovingly remembered as a quiet person. Though she sometimes kept to herself, she would always offer a hand to anyone in need. She cherished her grandchildren. Jennie also appreciated nature and being outdoors. Favorite enjoyments were fishing, camping, tending her flower gardens, riding bike and playing Bingo. In earlier years, she loved to play softball and was an avid bowler. |
