John Murhl Howland

John Murhl Howland, Age 101, died Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Bradford County Manor, Troy, PA.
    He was born April 19, 1914 in Sabinsville, PA son of the late John S. and Frances E. (Mack) Howland. Murhl dedicated and spent his life sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others for 79 years.
     He ministered in PA, NJ. NY, ME, NH, VA, AL and MS. He will be greatly missed by all those he loved and served.
    He is survived by brother, Lauris Howland of North Fort Myers, FL and many nieces and nephews.
    Murhl was preceded in death by three sisters, Donna Stahli, Sybil Young and Charla Howland.
    The funeral was held August 4, at the Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., Troy, PA.       Interment was, August 12, in Riverside Cemetery, Knoxville, PA.

Bryce Shedden

    Bryce S. Shedden, Jr., 57, of Troy passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Bryce was born August 3, 1957 in Blossburg, PA son of the late Bryce S. and Beverly (Tillotson) Shedden, Sr.
     He was employed by Principle Enterprises in Canton. He enjoyed league bowling at Terrace Lanes in Troy and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and grandchildren.
    Family and friends are invited to call Wednesday, August 5, from 7 to 8 PM at the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947.

    On the morning of Monday, July 27th, 2015,  William John Howell, formerly of Troy, passed away quietly, with his family at his side, at his daughter’s residence in Sayre, just five days away from his 96th birthday.   Born August 1st, 1919  in Troy, he was the son of Willis D. and Jenny (Hoyle) Howell.  Mr. Howell was a graduate of Troy High School and was employed as a machinist for 40 years at Westinghouse.

Beverly Leljedal

    Beverly Leljedal, 73, life-long resident of Powell, and the beloved wife of Edward passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning July 25, 2015.
 Born December 26, 1941 at the family home in Powell, Beverly Ann was one of two children of the late Thelbert and Hazel (Gleason) Wright.  After attending the Powell School, she graduated from Towanda High School with the class of 1960.

    Ruthann Edwards, 48, of Bethlehem, PA, passed away May 18, 2015 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown., following a prolonged illness.
    She was born Ruthann Noelle Finnerty on Dec. 25, 1966 at Easton Hospital in Easton, PA. She was the daughter of Mrs. Marianne Byars and the late Mr. Andrew Finnerty of Ulster, PA and granddaughter of Ruth and Stephen Leskoven of Wilmot Township. She was raised on a dairy farm on the outskirts of Towanda, Pa., where she developed her love for animals and became an avid horsewoman.

Marsden L. Matson

    On the morning of Saturday, July 18th, 2015, Marsden Leon Matson of Canton passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital with his family at his side.  He was 76 years of age.  Born in Endicott, NY on February 28th, 1939, he was the son of Wesley D. and Phyllis “Posie” (June) Matson.   Following high school Marsden enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  In 1961 he married Donna Mott, and together they raised four children and would have celebrated 54 years this September.

   
   Throughout his adult life Marsden worked at many tasks.  He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the construction industry,  was a truck owner-operator, owned Matson-Maris Garage and Auto Sales in Canton, was the manager-operator of the Antrim Mining Company, and was a truck driver for local businesses, most recently being  employed with BS Trucking in Canton.  He also served as an officer with the Canton Jaycees.  He enjoyed fishing and spending special times with his children and grandchildren, as well as with his canine companion, Ruby, the company of his friends and   his very best friend, his wife.  He was also a man with a deep, abiding faith in the Lord, and was a member of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) in Canton.
  He is survived by his wife, Donna, at home,   son Darin (& Kathryn) Matson of Franklin, TN,  daughters Renee (& Anthony) Caringi of Glenside, PA,  Colleen (& Dwight) Forrester of Harrisburg, and Stephanie (& John) Erlston  of Danville, PA, sister Shirley (& Gary) Ritz of Troy, sister-in-law Issy Matson  of Alba, grandchildren Jill (& Jerome) Schram, Matthew May, Kaylie Matson, Anthony Caringi, Grant Matson, Mackenzie Forrester, Alex Caringi, Kendra Case, Madeline Caringi, Tayler Forrester, Jakob Forrester, great-grandchildren Jacek and Niko Rose.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and “Posie”, as well as his brother James Matson.
  Visitation will be 10  to 11:30 AM, Saturday, July 25th, at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center St., Canton.  Service will be at 11: 30 AM with Pastor Josh Payne officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mott Cemetery.  Flowers are appreciated, or contributions in Marsden’s name may be directed to the Juvenile  Diabetes Foundation, 105 Westpark Drive, suite 415,  Brentwood TN. 37027.

    Jacqueline (Farr) McMann, 83, of Springfield Township, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home in Granville, with her family by her side.  She was the wife of the late John McMann who passed away in 1990.  The couple married July 7, 1951 and had 39 happy years together.
 Jacqueline was born on November 6, 1931 in Corning, NY, daughter of the late Henry and Gladys (Leonard) Farr.  She was a graduate of Corning Northside High School, Class of 1949, and a 1951 graduate of SUNY Farmingdale with a degree in Art.

    Michael Chopak, age 83 of Prospect Street, Troy, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
    Michael was born April 26, 1932 in Scranton son of the late John & Stella (Budjinski) Chopak, Sr. Mike was a graduate of local schools and attended two years of college. He served his country with the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955.

    Charles B. Carnes Jr.,70, of Ralston, passed away at his residence July 22, 2015, surrounded by his family.
    Born Nov. 30, 1944, in Zanesville, Ohio, he was the son of Charles B. Carnes Sr. and Naomi (Libby) Carnes.
    For most of his working life he was a truck driver. He was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was married to the former Elsie Wheeler on Sept. 6, 1969.

Hazel Saunders

     Hazel Saunders, 92, Canton, passed away while surrounded by family on Wednesday evening, July 22, 2015.
 Born July 12, 1923 in Granville Summit, Hazel Alda Shedden Spencer Saunders was one of thirteen children of the late James and Mabel (Colton) Shedden.  
  On May 20, 1960, she married Ed Saunders in West Franklin.  They were blessed with 39 years together before his passing, Dec. 1, 1999.  
    Hazel cherished times shared with her family.  She was a caring and supportive person and a dear friend to many.
