Robert C. Bailey

  On the morning of Thursday, March 30th, 2017  well-known Troy resident, Robert C. Bailey passed away at Bradford County  Manor.  He was 74 years of age. 
  Born October 13th, 1942 in Canton, he was the son of Robert and  Mary Josephine (Hawthorne) Bailey. 
  As a child he bravely fought the ravages of polio.  Bob was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1960, and was employed for many years at Paper Magic as a product planner. 
   Bob always found the time to engage in volunteer  work in his community.  He ran the Troy Food Pantry for many years, assisting local residents who were in need.  
   He was also active with New Beginnings, helping with the fight against substance abuse.  Bob was not only concerned with helping the physical nature, but the spiritual nature as well.  He was a man of great faith and was an active member of Victory Church in Troy.  
    Bob was also active with the Gideons International, helping to spread the Good News of Jesus to young and old alike.  As he bravely fought his illness in his latter days Bob found strength and consolation through his relationship with the Lord.

Pearl Helen Foster

    Pearl Helen Foster, 88, long time resident of Granville Summit, passed away on Thursday March 30, 2017 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA.
   Born June 29, 1928 in Granville Center, daughter of Harold U. and Maud (Morrison) Pepper.          She was a 1946 graduate of Troy High School.  On June 25, 1958, she married Theodore W. Foster.  They shared 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2010.
    Pearl enjoyed politics and was a life-long member of the Republican Party.  
​   She was an active member of the Grover Church of Christ and most recently attended the Mooresburg Presbyterian Church.  Earlier in life, she was active in the Granville Center and Sylvania Churches of Christ.

James T. "Jim" Morgan

 James T. “Jim” Morgan, 93, of Wellsboro and formerly of Armenia Mountain passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Green Home in Wellsboro.  He was the husband of Fay (Tiller) Morgan who passed away July 9, 2010.
   Jim was born on March 3, 1924 on Armenia Mountain,  son of the late George and Anna (Clark) Morgan. He was a 1943 graduate of Troy High School and retired in the 1980’s after a long successful career with the Troy Agway as their Farm Supply Manager.  Jim enjoyed camping and traveling, playing cards, and collecting coins.  He was an avid recycler, was a member of several social clubs, and was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys when they were winning.  Jim always put his family first, was generous to all who knew him, and was Baptist by faith.
   Jim survived by his sons: Kelvin (Irene) Morgan, Mansfield, PA, and Wayne (Sonya) Morgan, Troy; his daughters: Anita Osgood, Gillett, June (Ross) Cummings, Wellsboro, with whom he resided, May Decker along with Paul Ford, Chatham, NY, and Elaine Morgan, Troy; twenty one grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and dear friend Catherine Weed.         He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fay, his sons Jon and Dennis Morgan, his brothers: Raymond (Alida), Nelson (Lucille), his twin Harold (Irma) his sister Alice (Boyd) Brace and his son-in-law Edward “Ozzie” Osgood.

Arlene Higley Brown

   Arlene Higley Brown, 85, longtime resident of East Troy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 29, 2017 at Towanda Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing.
    Born June 11, 1931 at the family home near Lincoln Falls in Sullivan County, Arlene was one of 11 children of the late Ralph and Lelah (McCarty) Higley. 
    She was a 1949 graduate of Estella High School.   On May 10, 1951, she married Emery L. Brown in Towanda. They shared 46 years of marriage before his passing on Aug. 28, 1997.
    Arlene was blessed with a strong work ethic in life.  In addition to her devotion to family and home, she   often was a great help on the family’s dairy.  She had large gardens and canned, sewed, crocheted and made many beautiful afghans and quilts for her family and friends.  She raised and sold strawberries in the area for many years to help with family expenses.  Arlene enjoyed times spent playing cards with friends and family and her Senior Citizens Group’s activities.   She was a member of the East Troy Baptist Church.

  Louise M. Walker Barrett Comfort, 74, Springfield Township,  passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at Troy Community Hospital.  
    Louise was born in Towanda,  on September 14, 1942 the daughter of Arthur E. Walker and Isedora Vincent Walker. 
    She attended Towanda High School and was formerly employed by Mansfield University, Hurleys’s Market in Troy and Herman Rynvelds Son in Athens, PA. ​

  Louise M. Walker Barrett Comfort, 74, of Springfield Township, passed away March 27, 2017 at Troy Community Hospital.
 The funeral service will be held March 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home 217 York Ave. Towanda.  Burial will follow in the Harkness Cemetery, Springfield Township.
    The family will receive friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Katherine Ann "Kate" Smith

     Katherine Ann “Kate” Smith, 74, formerly a resident of Mantua, NJ, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017. Kate had been a resident at Deptford Center Rehabilitation and Healthcare, after suffering a brain aneurysm 16 years ago. 
   Kate was born on October 17, 1942 in Pennsylvania, a daughter of Vivian Tillotson (Woodward) and the late Leon Tillotson.
    Kate was raised in Roaring Branch, Pennsylvania and graduated from Canton High School. She then moved to South Jersey, where she met and married her husband, the late James W. Smith. They were married for 50 years before Jim’s passing in 2011.

Elizabeth "Betty" Teribury

    Elizabeth “Betty” Teribury, Tyrone, GA and formerly of Leroy, PA has passed away on March 26, 2017 at the age of 90.  
   She was born Flora Elizabeth Mott on September 20, 1926.  She was the last of five children of Samuel and Helen Mott of Leroy.  
   Elizabeth was a member of the Canton High School class of 1944.  
  She is survived by her four children; Helen Binford, Troy, PA, Earl Teribury, Troy, PA Thomas Teribury, Senoia, GA and Eric Teribury, Newborn, GA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  
    Her final resting place will be alongside her husband, Earl E. Teribury in the Mott Family Cemetery, Leroy. 
    A memorial service in her honor will be made at a later date.The music of life is endless.
   The melodies linger on, Like the keys of your piano,You touched our lives with song.

Rev. Earl Lee Smith

  Rev. Earl Lee Smith, 81, of West Milton and formerly of Big Pond, PA was called home to his Savior on  March 26, 2017.
  Born July 23, 1935 in Big Pond, he was the son of the late Bert and Edna (Lee) Smith.  Earl was a 1953 graduate of Troy High School.  On August 11, 1956, he married the former Bonnie Lamb in High Point, NC.
   Rev. Smith held a Bachelors of Religious Education from God’s Bible College in Cincinnati, OH, a Bachelors of Arts from Asbury University in Wilmore, KY and his Masters of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC.  He has served church appointments at Elmira, Spring Lake and Conquest in New York State and in Daggett, Jackson Center, Roseville, Quincy, Lock Haven, Middleburg and Sunbury in Pennsylvania as well as in Chaplin and Green’s Chapel in Kentucky.  He authored three family genealogy books; The Lee Tree, Tribute to Bert and Edna Smith and Keeping Up with The Smiths.  He also did numerous articles in the books, The History of Bradford County, PA and Randolph County, North Carolina History.
