Betty J. Reed

   Betty J. Reed, 94, life-time resident of Canton, passed away early Thursday morning, February 20, 2020 at the Bradford County Manor. Betty Jane was born in Williamsport, PA., November 11, 1925, an only child of the late James and Margerite (Zimmerman) Schraml.
    Betty was an avid bingo player and many affectionately knew her as “Bingo Betty.” She enjoyed playing cards, especially rummy and pinochle. She belonged to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Troy. Betty always looked forward to family gatherings, especially Christmas time. Her main focus and love in life was her family. Betty raised her two children, Jim and Barbie, on her own and they became the “Three Musketeers.” Betty made due with whatever resources they had, and even though at times it wasn’t much, she was one who would offer the shirt off of her back to anyone in need. Her family said all they ever needed was her love and warm smile; Betty provided all they could ever want. They couldn’t ask for a better mother or grandmother and her way she raised her family with strength and determination still continues on.
   Surviving Betty are her children; Jim (Cindy) Reed of Canton and Barbara (Michael) Kraft of Newark, DE, grandchildren; Stacey (Jeff) Burns of Danville, CA, Jamie (Greg) Taylor of Canton, Gregory (Tina) McNett of Bear, DE and Amy (Lee) Miller of Chesapeake, MD, great-grandchildren; Jacob, Aaron, Ryan, Caroline, Reed and Aubrey, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday, February 26th from 10-11 A.M. at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton, with funeral services following at 11 A.M.  Burial will be private in East Canton Cemetery.

Dr. John "Jack" Rushin

 Dr. John A. “Jack” Rushin, 86, well-known Canton, PA resident passed away Sunday, Apr. 14, 2019 at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, FL.
  John Andrew, “Jack” to family and friends, was born June 19, 1932 in Alden, Pa. (Luzerne County), a son of the late Andrew and Sophie (Olshefski) Rushin.  In 1950, he graduated from Newport High School before earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956.  He then served in the U.S. Air Force for three years in Florida.  On Dec. 17, 1956 Jack married the former Albertha Kemerite. They were blessed with 62 years together and raised two children.
​   Dr. Rushin first started his practice in Canton in 1960.  He later worked with the Dentistry Department of the Guthrie Clinic from 1967 – 1968 before re-establishing his Canton practice in 1969.  In 1986, Dr. Rushin opened a new dental office located at 11 E. Main St. Canton where he remained until retirement.  Jack knew the Lord in his heart and was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.  He was a past president and member of the Canton Area School Board, Canton Lion’s Club, the South Mountain Hunting Club and was a former high school football referee.

Allison Raelynn Raymond

Allison Raelynn Raymond, nine months old of Milan, Pa., passed away on Apr. 1, 2019 at her home. She was born on June 28, 2018 in Elmira, N.Y., daughter of Thomas Charles Raymond, Jr. and Tapanga Rae McCartney.
  She is survived by her parents, her brother Ezra Raymond, her maternal grandparents: Victoria Trindle of Montrose, Pa., Ira (Breanna) McCartney of Sayre and Amber Gray of Ulster, her Paternal grandparents Thomas C. Raymond, Sr. of Sayre, Pa., and Helen Raymond of East Smithfield, Pa., and her God Parents Brent and Desirae Yale of Gillett, Pa.
   Services for Allison Raelynn Raymond are private and at the convenience of her family. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 1093 West Main St., Troy, Pa. has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Dale Cleo Reynard

  Dale Cleo Reynard, 84, of Sayre, Pa. (formerly of Wilmington, DE) loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away comfortably at home on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019 after a short hospital stay.
   He was born on Oct. 9, 1934 in Canton, Pa. to the late Clifford and Mary (Stockholm) Reynard.  Dale was a 1952 graduate of Canton High School in Canton, Pa.   As a teen he enjoyed hanging out and helping with his family’s restaurant “Reynard’s Restaurant”. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until 1956 where he earned an honorable discharge.   He earned a Math & Secondary Science degree from Mansfield University in 1959 and a Master of Science Degree from Clarkson College of Technology in 1966.  He would marry the love of his life, Joyce E. Starr on Aug. 20, 1960, where they shared 57 years together until her death in 2017.
​   After moving to Wilmington, DE in 1966 Dale held positions as a Chemistry/Science teacher at Brandywine High School; Wilmington Friends School and Padua Academy where he retired in 1999.   He received honors/awards for his teaching including Middle Atlantic States Chemistry Teacher of the Year in 1976 awarded by Manufacturing Chemist Association and Delaware Chemistry Teacher of the Year Award in 1984.  He assisted with the facilitation of the Science Olympiad program in the State of Delaware as well as regional and national tournaments.

Marcia Randall

   Marcia Randall, age 89 of Roaring Branch, Pa. passed away at her residence on Jan. 23, 2019. Born in LeRoy Township, Bradford County on Aug. 24, 1929, Marcia was a daughter of Ivan and Myra (Wilcox) Whipple. She was a member of the North Union Christian Church and enjoyed making flannel baby quilts, sewing, reading, and gardening. She especially enjoyed her beautiful lilies. She was a well-known community member formerly employed with First National Bank of Canton and GLS Agway.
​   Marcia is survived by her son Michael Sakers of Burlington, Pa.; a daughter-in-law LuAnn Sakers of Roaring Branch, Pa.;  grandchildren Nicholas (Nina) Sakers, Ben (Shannon) Sakers, and Jack Sakers; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Jean (Clyde) Marshall and family of Liberty, Pa.; sisters Lorraine Chaapel and family of Elmira, N.Y. and Norma (John) Percival and family of Dushore, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Randall in 2007 whom she married on Oct. 4, 1960, her parents, son David Scott Sakers.

Charles Rockwell

   Charles Rockwell died peacefully in the presence of his family on Nov. 7, 2018.  Charles was born on June 7, 1926 in Canton, Pennsylvania; the son of Martin L. and Violet V. Rockwell.  He was the third of four children, his siblings were Martin V. Rockwell (deceased), Jane Palmeter, and James H. Rockwell (deceased).  He was pre-deceased by his wife Carol R. Rockwell and is survived by his children Douglas (Susan), Stuart (Deborah) and Sally Rockwell; grandchildren Martin, Stacia, Grant, Margaret and Carolyn; and great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Niah, and Tre’Jean.
​    Charlie (as he was known) was a very active and inquisitive child, who is remembered among those of his generation for the Little Church that he built using as the base building an old chicken coop that his grandfather had built.  He was the pastor of the Little Church with his sister Jane serving as organist and his brother Jim serving as sexton.  It was well attended by the local children.  It even achieved a note of fame with Charlie delivering a sermon that was broadcast by a New York City radio station and the church being featured in an edition of Life Magazine.  The church building, which Charlie restored in the 1990s can now be visited at the Troy Farmer’s Museum.

   On the evening of Tuesday, May 22nd, 2018 Nayland Douglas Rinker, 86,   Gillett passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital.  
     Born January 7th, 1932 in Laureldale, Berks County, he was the son of Harold John Lincoln Rinker and Dorothy Graybill Rinker.  
    Nayland was a graduate of Oley Valley High School and served our country in the United States Army attached to the 66th Armor Division.  Throughout most of his working life Nayland was a truck driver for a construction firm.  ​

George Richter

    George Richter, 88. peacefully passed away on April 29 at Sayre House in Sayre, PA where he was a resident after moving from Chemung, NY  
    He was born May 15, 1929 in Roaring Branch, PA to Charles and Nellie Richter.
    George was predeceased by his parents, his wife Betty and his son Howard.
     He is survived by his sister Marion Thompson Kuser, daughter Marilyn Richter in Silver Spring MD, son George (Sue) Richter in Lockwood, son Duane (Terri) Richter in Lockwood and son Lynn (Dorothy) Richter in Nichols. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    George made his living for many years in the logging industry. He greatly enjoyed his many draft horses that he had over the course of his life. It was in these pursuits that George made so many of his life-long friendships and associations.
    There will be a time of gathering for family and friends on Saturday May 5 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with a memorial service immediately following at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY.

    Burton Lyle Robert  (Red), 69,  Gillett, passed away on April 19, 2018.
    He was born September 12, 1948 the son of Geraldine (Clayton) Crout .          
  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon Robert (Polly) of 48 years in 2017.   He is survived by his children, Cindy Horton (Williamsport), Tim Robert (Gillett), Scott (Carrie) Robert (Horseheads NY); grandchildren, Nathan Horton, Ian Burnett, Chase Robert, Autumn, Matthew, Lukus, Zachary, Sammual, and Maria Robert.
  He was the brother of Bonnie (Harry) Crawford, Canton and Beverly Burton; and  brother in law of Robert (Gene) and Edwina Wesneski, Wesley (Tink) and Peg Wesneski, Vicky and Ted Reed, Sandy Bryington, Richard Wesneski and Sherrie Husted.  the late James (Denise) Bryington, Karen Karge, and mother in law Joyce Sullivan.
