Bradley Horton

    Bradley L. Horton, 72, Canton, PA passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Troy Community Hospital.
    Brad was born October 30, 1942, at the family home in Grover.  He was one of five children of the late Clifford C. and Millie (Adams) Horton.  He was a 1960 graduate of Canton High School and served in the U.S. Army while stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam War.  On July 31, 1969, he married the former Sharon Hicks and were blessed with two children.
     Brad proudly served 26 years with the Pennsylvania State Police, earning the rank of Corporal before retiring in 1994.  He then owned and operated Heather Oaks Construction.

Mary Pazzaglia

      Mary Virginia (Van Marter) Pazzaglia, age 84, of Columbia Cross Roads, died on Monday, June 29, 2015 in the Troy Hospital. Born on April 16, 1931 in Troy, she was the daughter of George and Elsie (Monroe) Van Marter. Mary is survived by her husband, Ronald Ernest Pazzaglia with whom she celebrated 65 years of marriage on June 25, 2015.
    Following her high school graduation, Mary was employed as a secretary for Attorney Evan Williams. Subsequently, her main vocation was farming. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and  landscaping. Her family and grandchildren were always her first priority. Mary was a member of the Roseville United Methodist Church.

      In addition to her husband, Ronald, she is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, David and Susan Pazzaglia of Roseville, PA, Steve Pazzaglia of Columbia Cross Roads, Rick and Cynthia Pazzaglia of Roseville, Tommy Pazzaglia of Owego, NY; one niece, Chris Kipferl; seven grandchildren: Alexandra (Ty Kent) Pazzaglia, Kierston (Russ Buchmann) Pazzaglia, David (Fianceé Alexandra Kirschke) Pazzaglia, Tonya (John Stone) Pazzaglia, Angela Pazzaglia, Hayley Pazzaglia, Brynne Pazzaglia; five great grandchildren: Isabella Pazzaglia, Bryce Kent, Max Buchmann, Micah Buchmann and Emily Stone. Mary was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Burke, Fannie Woodward and three brothers.
    Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 pm at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at the chapel at 7:30 PM with Pastor Tim Parker officiating.      Richard H. Calkins, 68, of Venice, FL (formerly of Troy), passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2015.
     He was born on February 27, 1947 to Thomas A. (deceased) and Marilyn Calkins in Troy.
     He graduated from Troy High School in 1965.

  Katherine Hilfiger, 95, of Horseheads, NY, formerly of Canton and Troy, passed away at home while surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, June 25, 2015.
    Born March 27, 1920 in Canton, Katherine Rose, “Kate” was a daughter of the late Edward “Chic” and Mazie (John) Smith.  She was a 1938 graduate of Canton High School.  In earlier years, Kate worked at Canton’s Ben Franklin Store and Canford Manufacturing.  She also was a telephone operator for Canton Telephone Co.  On March 11, 1967, she married Gene Hilfiger.  They shared 43 wonderful years together before his passing on Oct. 22, 2010.

Shirley M. Campbell

    On the morning of Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015, Shirley May (Buckley) Campbell of Granville Summit passed away quietly at her home. She was 80 years of age.  Born in Towanda on June 16th, 1935, she was the daughter of James & Elsie (Lee) Buckley.     Shirley grew up in New Albany, attending the New Albany schools.  She was married 47 years to Gordon Campbell, with whom she raised four sons and three daughters.  In the early 1960’s the Campbells purchased a farm in Granville township which would be Shirley’s home for the next fifty-two years.  Gordon passed away in 1996.  Shirley loved to work in her garden, and afterwards watch from her window as the birds darted  among the blossoms.  She also enjoyed hunting, playing cards  and country music.  She had a generous heart and was a perpetual caregiver.

    Thomas Edward Brann, previously of Canton, passed away in Wesley Chapel, FL on June 23, 2015 following a prolonged illness.
 Born February 9, 1946, he was the  son of the late Wilson and Mary Wynne Brann, lifelong Canton residents.
 After graduating from Bloomsburg State University, he served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala.

John L. Anderson

    On the afternoon of Monday, June 22nd, 2015, well-known Canton resident, John LaVerne Anderson passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.   He was 77 years of age.  John was born in Sayre, Pa. on January 18th, 1938, the son of Louis and Alice (Vanderpool) Anderson, and was raised by Jack and Wilma Horton of East Smithfield.   John’s adult life was devoted to serving others.  He served 23 years with the U. S. Army, receiving numerous decorations and retiring as a SGT 1st Class. It was during his  furlough following his tour in Vietnam that he was introduced to Lynell Dunbar  while snowmobiling with friends during the blizzard of January, 1972.

    Shirley L. Beach,  84, o Laporte, PA passed away  June 21, 2015 at the Highlands Care Center. Shirley was born October 27, 1930 daughter of the late Merritt and Sadie Belle (Breese) Gerould. She was a homemaker and enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Shirley’s interests included bowling, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and camping.
    At Shirley’s request graveside services will be private in the Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, PA. The Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home, Troy, PA have been entrusted with arrangements.

   Archie McNett, 85,  Springfield Township, passed away at home while surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 19, 2015.
    Born December 9, 1929 in Williamsport, PA, Archie Dudley McNett was one of four sons of the late Archie and Alma (Edler) McNett.  
    After graduating from Troy High School with the class of 1947, Archie began a 27-year career in the U.S. Navy.  Serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Archie earned the rank of ENCM (SS) and received several medals. 
    He then became a licensed Real Estate agent and was associated with Endless Mountains Real Estate Co. in Covington and later the Northern Tier Realty Co. in Troy.
