Born December 9, 1929 in Williamsport, PA, Archie Dudley McNett was one of four sons of the late Archie and Alma (Edler) McNett.
After graduating from Troy High School with the class of 1947, Archie began a 27-year career in the U.S. Navy. Serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Archie earned the rank of ENCM (SS) and received several medals.
He then became a licensed Real Estate agent and was associated with Endless Mountains Real Estate Co. in Covington and later the Northern Tier Realty Co. in Troy.
On August 11, 1980, he married the former JoAnn Ward in Towanda. Archie loved being outdoors and working in his woods. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making many projects, especially potato crates and birdhouses.
He was a die-hard NY Yankee’s Baseball fan. Archie volunteered many hours and financial assistance to the Grover Hill Cemetery. He was instrumental in the anchor display at Troy’s V.F.W. Post 675 and American Legion Post 49 building. He also kept in touch with several of his Navy buddies over the years. His memberships included the Sons of the American Legion and the Deer Crossing Marine Corps League Detachment.
In addition to his wife JoAnn, surviving are his son, Jason McNett, Springfield Twp., PA; stepdaughters, Brenda Jo Tracy of California and Susan Buchanan of Florida; brother, Ian McNett of Virginia; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and close nieces and nephews and many cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers; Stephen MacNett and Samuel McNett; stepchildren, Del Golden and Ruth Ann Golden.
The funeral was held June 23 at the Pepper Funeral Home, Canton, with Rev. Jim Crupi officiating.
Burial was at Grover Hill Cemetery at a later date.
