Born July 12, 1923 in Granville Summit, Hazel Alda Shedden Spencer Saunders was one of thirteen children of the late James and Mabel (Colton) Shedden.
On May 20, 1960, she married Ed Saunders in West Franklin. They were blessed with 39 years together before his passing, Dec. 1, 1999.
Hazel cherished times shared with her family. She was a caring and supportive person and a dear friend to many.
Her family extends a heartfelt thank you to longtime caregiver and friend, Mary Bronson of Canton who was like a daughter to Hazel.
Surviving are children, David (Betty) Spencer, Roaring Branch, Phyllis (Cliff) Welch, Covington, Laurie (Brian) Krise, Canton, Barbara Troxell, Forest City, NC and Dale (Cheryl) Saunders, Alba; grandchildren, Wade Spencer, Linsey Woods, Caitlin Troxell, Brian Saunders and Mikayla Saunders; two step granddaughters; five step great grandchildren; and step great-great granddaughter; sister, Grace Rogers, Canton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends at McCallum Manor.
In addition to her husband Ed, Hazel was predeceased by her first husband, Lawrence Spencer, who passed away unexpectedly at age 42, also eleven siblings, Howard Shedden, Harold Shedden, Irene Shedden, Josephine Bennett, Max Shedden, Dorothy Kithcart, Gerald Shedden, Alice Williams, Arthur Shedden, Deana Haner and Eleanor Comstock and a son-in-law, William Troxell.
The funeral service was held July 26 at Pepper Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Duane Taylor officiating
Burial followed in Spencer Cemetery.
