Born May 30, 1944 in Sayre, PA Francis Howard, “Fran” Lamphere was a son of the late John Edward and Mildred Jane (Anderson) Lamphere. After graduation from Towanda High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea for a time as the Vietnam War began to escalate. On June 17, 1967, Fran married the former Julia Putnam in Athens. They shared 47 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on Nov. 1, 2014. He was employed for many years by Westinghouse/Toshiba in Horseheads, NY until its closure. In early years he worked for American La France Corp. in Elmira.
Family was always priority number one in Fran’s life. He cherished the times shared with his children and grandchildren. Though sometimes quiet, he will be lovingly remembered for his silly sense of humor, a great jokester and prankster. Fran also loved nature and the great outdoors; was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He and Judy would enjoy hours of feeding and watching the squirrels and wildlife.
In addition to his beloved wife Judy, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Jo “Sicia” Lamphere on Dec. 3, 2012 and four siblings; Diane Reeves, Bertha Patton, Lillian Hillard and George Lamphere.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon, Sept. 16, at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Dr. in Canton.
Rev. Tom Blackall will officiate the memorial service following at noon. A private burial will be in Troy’s Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Those who wish may consider a memorial in Mr. Lamphere’s name to the American Diabetes Assoc. P.O. Box 4383 Bethlehem, PA 18018.
