Larry Wayne Bassett was born in Canton, PA on November 12, 1944. He was one of four children of the late Ardell and Marletta (Rhodes) Bassett. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Canton High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was employed by Penelec for over 34 years, and retired as a technical supervisor.
He then enjoyed his dream of a lifetime job and established SeaDawg Charters, a fishing charter service, on Lake Ontario for eight years.
A great husband, father and grandfather, Larry was a mentor and the glue of the family.
He would offer help to anyone in need. Larry enjoyed life and lived every day to its fullest. An outdoor enthusiast, he loved to fish, hunt, camp and boat. Larry also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, especially Texas Hold’em and watching old western movies.
He was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge 429, American Legion Post 42 in Towanda and a former member of the Wysox Kiwanis.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Nancy May; step-son, Ryan Atherton-Ely and his brother, Mike Bassett.
The funeral was held Sept. 14,at the Pepper Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Duane Taylor officiating the funeral services. Burial followed in East Canton Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials in Larry’s name be sent to the Ryan’s Hope Memorial Softball Tournament, c/o Ryan’s Hope, 67 Charles St. Roaring Branch, PA 17765.
