Linda S. Dunbar, 77, Columbia Crossroads, PA passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 in the loving arms of her husband in the intensive care unit at the Robert Packer Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Marie Flagle Sheehan; and brother-in-law, David Sturzen. Linda is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Lloyd Dunbar; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stanley R. Decker, 48, of Canton, PA passed away Saturday evening, January 13, 2018, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA following declining health.
Stanley was born in Waterbury, CT on October 25, 1969, and attended Northeast Bradford School in Rome, PA. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, listening to music, and was regarded as a talented auto mechanic. Surviving are daughter, Cathleen Brazee and granddaughter, Mia White, Sidney, NY; companion of many years, Angel Sosa, Canton; father, Arthur Decker, Canton; brothers, Arthur Decker and wife Ann, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Edward Decker, Oneonta, NY as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Marion Conklin Mickle on November 27, 2016. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Danovsky, IV, 43, passed away quietly at home on Christmas Eve in Carlisle, PA.
John was born in Alleghany Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, PA, on September 29, 1974, the son of John Danovsky and Carla Hubler Danovsky. He was a graduate of Kiski Area High School. While John grew up in western PA, he loved visiting the mountains and spent his summers with his grandparents and relatives in Troy, PA, where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, rebuilding classic cars with his Uncle Chris, and hanging out with his favorite cousin, Lori Johns. After graduation, John became a skilled carpenter and foreman of construction crews as well as an expert machinist. His meticulous care with woodworking was obvious in all projects he undertook. As the result of his job, John traveled widely and enjoyed the opportunity to visit many places and meet new people. John loved his family, especially his daughter, Kaiya Danovsky, and frequently returned to Troy to spend time with his beloved grandfather and grandmother and meet up with old friends. His sense of humor was infectious, and the warmth of his personality drew many people to him. He always had time to help others, offering rides, helping with carpentry, or running errands. John donated his time at a food pantry in Carlisle and said it gave him a great sense of peace to participate in its mission to feed those in need. He was an avid reader, enjoying books by Stephen King in particular, and an expert rider, always looking forward to long motorcycle rides. He loved animals and was particularly fond of his dog Gizmo. David A. Drasher, 82, Roaring Branch, was reconnected with his parents in heaven in the early morning of December 13, 2017.
David was born on November 27, 1935, and was the oldest son of Albert A. Drasher and the late Catharine Shellhammer. He enjoyed carpentry and fabrication. He loved to work with his hands making whatever he could whether it was rebuilding parts to machinery or building buildings. He enjoyed hunting, especially at the Adams residence in Roaring Branch, where he later resided in 2000. He worked for Jones Motor and Duie Pyle and worked at Highlands Orchards where he later retired. David was a sweet guy with a kind heart who enjoyed telling stories of his past and the adventures and sights he saw as a truck driver. Diane L. (Vermilya) Disbrow, 66, a resident at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte, Pa., left her Earthly home for Eternal Life on November 21, 2017. She was born in Elmira, New York on September 6, 1951, the daughter of Frank “Ed” Vermilya and Barbara (Packard) Vermilya. Diane attended schools in Elmira, Williamsport and Canton, graduating Canton Area High School in June of 1970. She resided in the Pocono region for a number of years where she was employed as a sales consultant and office worker for the Fernwood Resort. It was there that she met he husband to be, Frank Disbrow. Diane experienced a debilitating disease at age 31. However, she pushed forward through rehabilitation so as not to be defined by her limitations. In later years she and her beloved husband resided in Ulster, Canton and LeRoy Township where they spent many wonderful years together. Diane made friends easily and was always ready to engage in a conversation on any topic. She served on the Resident Council at Highlands and spent many hours playing cards and Bingo, and attended church and special activities. She will be greatly missed by the many friends she made. Helen Dickerson, 97, long-time resident of Ellenton, PA (McNett Twp.) was called to her Heavenly reward, August 29, 2017 from Darway Elder Care in Estella. Helen Louise was born June 30, 1920 at Spring Hill near Wyalusing. She was a daughter of the late J. Edward and Flora M. (Lattimer) Hendershot. On June 1, 1946, Helen married Harold G. Dickerson in Elmira Heights. They were blessed with five children and shared over 45 years together before his passing on Oct. 20, 1991.Caring for family and home came first in Helen’s life. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church in Canton. Helen loved her pet cats and especially enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles. Surviving are three children; Robert (Mary) Finney of Leesburg, FL, Nancy Frey, Sayre and Gary Dickerson, Canton; son-in-law, Anthony Migliaccio, Secane, PA; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Harold, she was predeceased by two daughters; Teresa “Terry” Rosbach in 2003 and Ann Marie Migliaccio in 2004, two grandchildren; Susan Plossl in 2002 and Anthony Migliaccio, III in 2006, also five siblings. Melvia M. (McKerrow) DeWalt, 89, Columbia Cross Roads, passed away August 2, 2017 at Bradford County Manor.
She was born May 13, 1928 in Columbia Cross Roads to the late Ernest and Lillie (Miller) McKerrow. Growing up in Columbia Cross Roads, she was the youngest of eleven children. She lost her mother at the age of twelve and became the lady of the house with two brothers and father at home. Melvia was a 1947 graduate of Troy High and soon after she lost her father in 1948. She met her future husband on a blind date and later married Charles F. DeWalt on Oct. 24, 1948. They purchased a farm in Rummerfield, PA. There she worked at her husband’s side milking cows, working the fields, and cutting fire wood. She was a member of the Herrickville Church and helped with dinners at the fire hall. Around this time they started a family. They thought factory life would be an easier way of life so they sold the farm and rented a house in Kesslersrville, PA. Later, they bought a house in Moorestown, PA. There they became members of the Salem United Methodist Church. Melvia was an active member of the church’s women’s group which put on dinners and fundraisers. Also, she was an active member of the Moorestown School PTA and advocate of getting a reading program in the school. When her husband was in the VA hospital for almost a year in 1962-1963, she took a job in a blouse factory to pay the bills. In 1967 they moved the family to Columbia Cross Roads, where Melvia became an active member of her childhood church. She helped wherever God called like cleaning the church, teaching Sunday School, putting dinners together, and clubs. She was a member of the UMW and served as president in the later years. Linda Harkness Durocher, 67, formerly of Troy, PA., passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2017 at her home in North Situate, R.I. She was the daughter of her late parents, John and Patricia Harkness Jr.
Linda graduated from Troy High School in 1967. In June she attended her 50th class reunion and had a great time making her classmates identify her. She is survived by daughter, Dawn; son, Ryan and wife Marcia; grandchildren Chatel Cunha, daughter of Dawn and Louie Cunha and Ryan Durocher, Jr. all from RI; brother John and wife, Corky Harkness of Columbia Cross Roads. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert . A “meet and greet” will be held on October 7 at the Troy Vets Club from 2-4 p.m. to honor Linda. Mary was born in Morris Run on June 16, 1932. She was a homemaker for most of her life and possessed the gift of sharing with others. She attended the former First Baptist Church of Canton and Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) for many years. Surviving is one daughter, Marlene M. Davy, Birdsboro, PA.
