Joyce spent her early years as a stay at home raising two children until the death of Cynthia Kay Schmidt. It would be two years later that Joi-Ann was born to rekindle the parenting skills of Joyce. She enjoyed fishing in the Rehoboth Bay, and camping. She worked for the former Capitol Campus in Middletown before retiring in Millsboro, DE, working for a short time as a van driver for a nursing home.
Joyce A (Nickle) Schmidt went home to be with her husband, Gerald E Schmidt Sr., and daughter, Cynthia Kay on February 15, 2017 surrounded by family in Colorado Springs, CO. Born October 22, 1943, she married Gerald on June 17, 1961, and shared 55 years together before his death on April 22, 2016. They raised two children.

Pamela Anderson Sechrist,48, of Troy, PA passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Born on August 7, 1968 in Williamsport, Pamela Lynn was one of eight children of the late Virgil and Juanita (Woodward) Anderson. She was a 1986 graduate of Canton High School. On Aug. 18, 1990, Pam married Donald J. “Donnie” Sechrist in the Ogdensburg Church of Christ. She was a loving, caring natured wife, sister and friend who adored her children with all her heart and soul. To know Pam was to love her; always thinking of others, she would offer her help to anyone in need. Pam appreciated nature’s beauty and enjoyed being outdoors. She loved her old car. Her heart also went out to all animals and she was known for catering to her pets. Pam worked for Martha Lloyd Community Services for 13 years before realizing her dream of owning and operating a children’s day care center for 12 years. She also enjoyed coaching Troy’s Cheerleaders for several years. Larry R Collins went home to meet his Lord on Monday, February 13th at age 61. Larry was born September 18th, 1955 in Mesa, Arizona. He was a fifth-generation Railroad Man. Larry also held the position of Fire Chief for the Bowie Arizona Volunteer Fire Department, worked as a Paramedic for 16 years. He enjoyed NASCAR and tried his hand at racing and did well in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. After his retirement from 40 years with the railroad, Larry and Debra moved to Mansfield, Pennsylvania in 2013. He enjoyed spending time with family and especially his five grandchildren. He was an avid hunter, using rifle and bow, loved fishing and living the rural life in Pennsylvania. Larry is survived by his wife, Debra of Mansfield PA, his son Joshua Collins and his family in Tucson AZ, his daughter Shannon Sakers and her family in Canton PA, his sister Brenda and her family in Redding CA as well as numerous extended family members. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Carnlee and Betty Collins and his older brother Lee Collins. Richard A. Brown, 76, Canton, passed away peacefully February 11, 2017, at Bradford County Manor, Troy, surrounded by his family. Richard Allen was born April 26, 1940 in Williamsport, PA, a son of the late Chester and Agnes (Morgan) Brown. Richard was a member of the 1958 Canton High School graduating class. He married the former Joeann Kilbourn in Grover on October 1, 1959. They were blessed with 57 loving years together and raised five sons. He was employed for many years as a security guard for Masonite Corp. in Towanda until retirement. In earlier years, he worked at Canton Bellows Valvair Co. Special times for Richard were shared with family; he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and black powder rendezvous. He also followed NASCAR and was a big Carl Edwards fan. Mr. Brown was a member of the Windfall United Methodist Church. Dolson James Porter, 73, died February 10 with his family surrounding him. He was born in Blossburg, PA to the late Addison Charles & Etta Mae McNeal Porter. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the U. S. Army. He was retired from Pinkerton & also volunteered with the fire department for 30 years. He raised his children and loved them more than life itself. Surviving are his children Cheri Cranmer (Jeff), Wendell, Estee Porter, Asheville, Chad D. Porter (Tracey), Garner, Ciara Young (Lee), Wendell; beloved grandchildren Elena, Gibby, Chad, Kaitlyn, Kristen, C.J., Ronnie, Jordan, Kayla, R.J. & precious great grandchildren Lil E, Baby Charles, Summer, Bubba & Henry as well as many cherished family members in his hometown of Canton, PA. The funeral was held at the Strickland Funeral Home, 2 Wendell, February 13. Burial followed in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors. Paul Belawske, 58, Hastings, Nebraska, formerly of Canton, PA passed away unexpectedly, February 10, 2017. Paul Allen Belawske was born on October 28, 1958 in Troy, PA. He was a son of the late John Raymond Belawske and Mable (Carl) Belawske Wightman. Paul graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1976. He was employed by Canfords Manufacturing in Canton before moving to Nebraska. Paul appreciated the beauty of nature all his life and especially loved taking long walks, usually with Misty, his devoted dog. He was a die-hard fan of NASCAR’S Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Junior. His football team was always the NY Jets. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Paul and his father were the caretakers of Canton’s St. Michael’s Cemetery and then he continued with his brother for several years. Louis Gilbert Kingsley, 86, East Smithfield passed away peacefully at his home, Feb. 10. Born Aug. 9, 1930 in East Smithfield, Louis spent his early years on a farm. He attended Troy schools and often reminisced about childhood and the mischievous antics of he and his brothers. On Sept. 2, 1951, Louis married the former Doris Jean Raub. The couple shared 65 years of marriage. With his passing comes a reunion with the mother he lost when he was 4, his father, brother, grandson and numerous loved ones lost through the years. We hope he’ll be socializing and dancing to his heart’s content. Louis was a man of strong conviction. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from him during his 86 years, among them to love and respect one another as well as the value of hard work. During the early years of Louis’s life, he worked as a farmer. He also worked alongside his brother at Kingsley Lumber in East Smithfield, was a self-employed trucker and later hauled logs until his retirement. He also enjoyed many hobbies through the years. Louis enjoyed spending time on his boat on Seneca Lake, being the mechanic for a stock car, and, in years past, hunting with his beloved beagle, Barney. Louis will be remembered for his smile, work ethic and profound love of his family. Winona G. “Hill” Tompkins, 70, Lock Haven, passed away, February 3, 2017.
She was born in Sayre on January 22, 1947, the daughter of the late, Walter T. and Leatrice “Smith” Hill. She was the wife of Ray Tompkins and they shared many wonderful years together before his passing in 1985. Winnie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lamar and lover her brothers and sisters very much. She was a homemaker that loved to do crafting and putting together puzzles. Along with crafts and puzzles she liked to paint with water colors. Winnie just adored her cat Smokey. Surviving are brothers; Lonnie (Carrie), Front Royal, VA and Nelson (Chelan), San Rafael, CA; also several nieces and nephews. Deborah Innes, 56, Canton, passed away Wednesday evening, February 8, 2017 at Towanda Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Canton on July 25, 1960, Deborah L. “Debi” Wilston was the daughter of the late Jack L. Wilston and Dolores Jane (Roby) Wilston of Towanda Skilled Nursing and formerly of Canton. After graduating from Canton High School, Debi received an Associates degree in Horticulture from the former Williamsport Area Community College. She married Stephen M. Innes on February 14, 1981 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Canton. In addition to being a homemaker, in earlier years Debi worked with the kitchen staff of the former White Tavern Restaurant. Later she was employed by Penn Dot. Debi was a life-time member of Canton’s V.F.W. Post 714 Auxiliary and life-time member of the New York State Pony Pulling Association. Times spent with family were very important to Debi. She found her calling while helping dad with his pulling ponies. Father Jack passed that chain of command on to her and Debi passed it on to son Casey. On the afternoon of Monday, February 6th, 2017, Jean Emma Brown passed away quietly at her Canton Township residence.
She was 76 years of age, and mother of Joanne (Mrs. Kenneth) Biggs. A memorial mass will be celebrated 10 AM Friday at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Canton. A full obituary will appear in next week's edition. Professional services entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home. |
