Lester F. Sheffield, 100, of Elyria, Ohio died June 7, 2015 while residing at Wesleyan Village. He was born October 27, 1914, in Pittsfield, Ohio, the youngest son of Fred and Lulu (Pickworth) Sheffield. He was a 1932 graduate of Wellington High School (the oldest living alumnus at the time of his death) and a 1934 graduate of Oberlin School of Commerce. He was employed at Western Automatic Machine Screw/Stanadyne for 45 years from 1934 until his retirement in 1979. He lived in Pittsfield until 1939 when he married Arlene Campbell of Oberlin and then moved to Elyria, remaining there the rest of his life.
Anita (McIlwain) Rush was born on April 3, 1928 to Lawrence W. and Gertrude B. McIlwain, and passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015. The family lived in Canton for many years before moving to California. Anita was a resident of San Jose, California at the time of her passing. Her siblings LaRue and LaMar McIlwain passed away before her. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Potter (Pierson), Step-Daughter Sandy Stanley, Step-Son Tom Rush, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Brown, Age 86, of Smithfield Township, PA passed away at home on Friday, June 5, 2015. He was the loving husband of Gloria May (Garrison) Brown. The couple married July 16, 1950 and had 64 happy years together. Wellman was born on September 27, 1928 in East Smithfield, PA, son of the late Francis and Theresa (Bailey) Brown. He was an SRU High School graduate and soon after went to work for National Homes. Once he had saved up enough money, Wellman bought his farm and farming became his passion. In his later years Wellman became owner of Brown’s Attic where he was an antiques and collectables dealer. He enjoyed peddling his wares at local flea markets and sales. Wellman had the “gift of gab” and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and customers. He was also an avid reader and a collector of many first edition books and was a member of The Bradford County Old Timers Association as well as several others. Charles Boinske, 98, lifelong resident of Blossburg, PA passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Troy Community Hospital. Born April 10, 1917 in Blossburg, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Schultz) Boinske. Chas attended Blossburg School until age 14 when he went to work in his father’s coalmines. He then went to work at Blossburg’s Ward Foundry in 1934 before being inducted into the U.S. Army in 1945. On July 13, 1945, he married the former Crescence “Cret” Wallis at Camp Ellis, Illinois. They shared 63 wonderful years together before her passing on Nov. 30, 2008. Upon returning from the Army, Chas continued his work at the foundry as a molder and later as general foreman until retiring in 1982. He also worked as a night Policeman for the borough in the 1950’s, was a member of the town’s first zoning board and helped finalize Blossburg’s first TV cable service. Dennis Dean Mahood Sr. age 68 of Moody died at his residence on Monday, June 1, 2015. He was born in Canton, PA on June 29, 1946 to Terrence Dean and Eloise (Wood) Mahood.
Dennis, a graduate of Troy High School, married Kathie L. Van Tuyl on August 10, 1973 at the First Baptist Church in Elmira, N.Y. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy (C-Bees). He has lived in the Temple, Texas area for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Terrence and Eloise. Claude Wayne Murphy, 68, Paw Paw, WV passed away on June 1, 2015 at Western Maryland Health System, Cumberland, MD.
Born on December 1, 1946 in Richmond, VA, he was the son of the late Marshall and Viola “Dot” (Lowry) Murphy. He was Director of Polish Christian Ministry, he served in several churches as a minister in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He was Pastor of the Grover Church of Christ from 1970 to 1974. He was Director of Eastern Christian Conference and Director of Development at Eastern Christian College. Claude Wayne Murphy, 68, of Paw Paw, WV passed away on June 1, 2015 in Cumberland, MD. He was a former pastor of the Grover Church of Christ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 6, 2015 at 11 am in Augusta, WV Church of Christ.
