A memorial service for Gwendolyn Garrison Vineski, who passed away December 29, 2015, will be held at 10:30 am on June 16, 2016, at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Troy. Milton VanNoy, Sr., 88, life-long resident of Granville Summit, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Milton Shephard VanNoy, “Milt” to family and friends, was born December 25, 1927 at the family home in Granville Summit. He was a son of the late Eunice (Morrison) and Edwin VanNoy. Milt was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army as a radio operator. He was married to the former Dorna LaMont and they were blessed with six children. Milt possessed a strong work ethic and remained active all his life. He always enjoyed his work as a farmer and dairyman, owning and operating the Creek View Farms in Granville Township. In earlier years, he also worked at Troy’s Craft Hosiery Mill. Milt was a member of the Troy VFW Post 8675. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was happiest when just being outdoors. Surviving are five children; Carolyn (David) Swain of Troy, Rosalyn Mosher of Granville Summit, Milton Jr. “Scooter” VanNoy of Granville Summit, Alan VanNoy of Troy and Dennis (Charlene) VanNoy of Troy, several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Appel of Montour Falls, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Dorna, who passed away on Feb. 26, 2006, a son, E.J. VanNoy and his brother, John VanNoy.
In keeping with Mr. VanNoy’s wishes, a private burial will be held at a later date. Pepper Funeral Home in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements. He is survived by son, Victor VanNess, Spencer, NY; his mother, Joan, and step-father, Harold Ostrander, Doris Vosburg, 82, Smithfield Township, passed away with her family by her side on February 8, 2016 at Bradford County Manor following an extended illness.
She was born on September 8, 1933 in Towanda, the daughter of the late Leslie and Wilma Craig Schill. Doris grew up in the Big Pond area, graduating from Troy High School. She married Vern Vosburg in 1952 and celebrated 45 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1997. Doris was a homemaker, staying home to raise her six children. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doris enjoyed playing the piano and continued to do so while at the Manor. She also had a beautiful voice, singing for many years in the church choir and also the choir at the Manor. Doris attended the East Smithfield United Methodist Church and in later years the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church. Gwendolyn Lucille (Garrison) Vineski, passed away peacefully at 91 years of age, December 29, 2015 in Loma Linda, California.
She was the daughter of Herbert and Helen (Wilson) Garrison of Troy, Pa, where she grew up and graduated from Troy High School, class of 1942. Mrs. Vineski was also a Penn State University graduate and worked in Harrisburg as a dietitian before her marriage to Robert R. Vineski, Esq. in 1949. Kevin Alan Vroman, age 50, of Blossburg, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. Kevin was born June 9, 1965 in Blossburg, a son of Daniel Vroman and Shirley (Krise) Rabold. He was employed by J. P. Ward Manufacturing in Blossburg. Kevin was a member of the Arnot Sportsmans Club, Canton American Legion, Morris Run American Legion and enjoyed golfing, enjoyed BBQing chicken with the Sleezy chicken crew, shooting pool, fishing and going for rides.
On the morning of Wednesday, May 28th, 2015, Archie W. Vroman of Ralston passed away quietly at The Gatehouse in Williamsport. He was 85 years of age.
Born in McIntyre Twp., Lycoming Co. on October 26th, 1929, he was the son of John W. and Ida B. (Woodward) Vroman. Archie was a member of the last graduating class of the former Ralston High School, where he was honored as valedictorian. Mary Frances Vaughan, 83, passed away on May 5, 2015 at her residence in Alexandria, Va.
Mary, who was called "Sis" by her family and many of her friends, was born in Canton, Pa., the daughter of John and Winifred Deemy. She was a graduate of Troy Pennsylvania High School and The Pennsylvania State University. In 1954 she wed her high school sweetheart Evan "Jim" Vaughan, now Captain USN (ret.), to whom she was married for 60 years. In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Valerie (Jon) Monschein, Elaine (Walter) DeLap and James (Eleanor) Vaughan. Her son Andrew predeceased her. She also leaves behind her sister Ruth Deemy, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. On the evening of Thursday, January 8, 2015, Virginia (Ayres) Vermilya of Canton went to be with her Lord while at Troy Community Hospital, with her family at her side. She was 84 years of age.
Born September 29, 1930 on her family’s farm in Windfall, she was the eldest child, and only daughter, of Oscar Kenneth and Stella (Campbell) Ayres. Growing up with only brothers to play with resulted in her proficiency in the game of baseball, and encouraged her to strive harder and go the extra mile. She was well acquainted with the more rigorous chores of farm life as she milked cows and drove tractors with the best of them. In her young adulthood Ginny waited tables at various restaurants in Canton and Troy. At one such place she met Lyle Vermilya, the man with whom she would share her life and raise her family. Later, she worked at the former Swayze Folding Box Company for several years. |
