Michael Joseph Pavlovsky, 80, of Granville Summit, Pennsylvania, passed away Jan. 20, 2019, at Guthrie Troy Community Hospital.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and wonderful friend to all he knew. Michael was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Rosa L. Packard, age 97 of Gillett, Pennsylvania, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at the Bradford County Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mae Case and Edgar Morley; husband, Stanley “Pete” Packard; sisters, Vera Mahar and Marcella Rutty; brothers, Rocky, Danny and Emerson Rutty; granddaughters, Donna Kendall and Patricia Packard; and son-in-law, Rich Lumbard. Rosie is survived by her children, Linda Getola, Nancy (Wendell) Kendall, Richard (JoAnn) Packard and Dale (Luzmila) Packard; grandchildren, Chris, Brian, Don, Jeff, Brad, Wendy, Carol, Keith, Nicole, Gwendolyn and Zachary; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Allen, Lucy Sullivan and Jane (Ed) Moore; and many nieces and nephews. Richard Pratt, 86, of Troy, Pa. was called home to Heaven by his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning Nov. 13, 2018 from the Bradford County Manor. Born in Canton, Pa. Oct. 4, 1932, Charles Richard, “Dick” to family and friends, was a son of the late Leland Daniel and Anna Elora (Dexter) Pratt. He grew up on the family’s dairy farm in Granville Township. Dick graduated from Troy High School in 1951 where he was active in the Future Farmers of America. On Oct. 11, 1953, he married the former Joyce Dunbar in the Bakersburg Community Church. Richard possessed a strong work ethic all his life. In addition to the daily operations of the Pratt Family Dairy, he also worked at Canton’s Swayze Folding Box Company for several years before working as a perk tester for Tioga County, Pa. In his early years, Dick found his calling by dedicating his life in service to the Lord. He was an active member of the former East Granville Baptist Church, serving in many church offices including deacon and later as pastor. More recently, Dick was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Canton. Andrew J. Pettitt, age 38, of Tioga, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 20, 2018. He was born on March 12, 1980 in Troy, a son of Steven and Ruth (Perry) Pettitt. Andrew was the husband of Veronica (Miles) Pettitt.
He was employed at Med Plast in Westfield. Andrew attended West Jackson Baptist church. He enjoyed artwork, photography, reading, and working outside on a cool day. Anne Biddle Preston, 91, longtime resident of Canton, Pa. passed away peacefully at the Sherwood Retirement and Personal Care Home in Canton while surrounded by family on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018. The daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (Wilcox) Biddle, Anne Biddle Preston was born in Elmira, N.Y. on Sept. 9, 1927. After graduating from Elmira Free Academy in 1945, Anne attended Syracuse University, majoring in music and theatre. She was employed in radio broadcasting for two Elmira radio stations, including hosting her own show under the name of Jane Bond. On September 22, 1951, she and Lee Manley Preston were married at the North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, N.Y. and settled in Canton, PA. Anne and Manley shared over 56 wonderful years together and were blessed with three children: Sandy (Geoff McNett), David, and Nancy (Douglas Lockwood). Mrs. Preston was a choir director for many years at the Canton Church of Christ, an active member of the church and served as a Deacon. She was a volunteer coordinator for the Canton Area School District and piano accompanist and choreographer for the elementary school productions for 25 years. She was also involved in numerous area organizations. Anne traveled extensively with her husband, Manley, when he was President of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association (PBA). Dorothy L. Pelton, 92, formerly of LeRoy, and Bradenton, FL passed away, Friday, August 31, 2018 at Imperial Healthcare in Neptune, NJ.
Dorothy Lorraine, “Dot” to family and friends, was born April 30, 1926 in Orange NJ, a daughter of the late Clarence S. and Minerva (DeHart) Genung. Dot grew up and lived in Millburn, NJ and Springfield NJ. On July 19, 1952, she married Edgar Duane Pelton and together they shared 50 years of loving marriage until Duane’s passing on March 18, 2002. In earlier years, Dot was employed by New Jersey Bell Telephone and later as a cashier for the Stop & Shop Supermarket. Throughout life Dorothy’s main interest was the love she shared in her home and with family. Janna Smith Pitlyk, 69, died in hospice at St. Peter’s Hospital with her family around her on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, after suddenly falling critically ill in July. Janna leaves us with unforgettable memories of a life lived with a lovely smile, a gentle voice and a firm devotion to her loved ones. She introduced her husband to cats and antiques, her son to Star Trek and her daughter to figure skating. She gathered her family together for Sunday dinners and shared stories of her Pennsylvania family. Whenever she made a suggestion to her husband about looking for Christmas presents or making decisions about paint colors, she was always right. Whether setting play group times with neighborhood moms, volunteering for school activities or assisting with a move into a new apartment, she never tired of doing whatever she could for her two children. Janna was born on Oct. 7, 1948, in Canton, Pa., to the late Olen and Lenore Smith. She grew up there and graduated from Canton High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and communications from Lock Haven State College in Lock Haven, Pa., and also studied at Columbia University in New York. During the early morning hours of Friday, June 22nd, 2018, Ernest Stephen Probst of Canton passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.
Known to family and friends as Steve, he was 73 years of age. Born in Lock Haven on October 1st, 1944, he was the son of Woodrow and Ruth Probst. Later, he lived in Johnstown where he met his first wife, the former Rosemary Hulslander. In the mid 1960s Steve and Rosemary moved to the Granville area where they raised their son and daughter. Steve answered our country’s call during the Vietnam War and served with the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt. He was employed for many years at Masonite in Towanda. His wife, Rosemary, passed away in 1992 and two years later he married the former Ruth Sterling, with whom he shared the next 24 years. Upon marrying Ruth he was blessed with five stepchildren. Dr. Fred R. Place, 64, Lake Wesauking, Pennsylvania, passed away Tuesday morning, June 5, 2018, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa
He was born Oct. 10, 1953 in Sayre, Pensylvania, a son of Fred and Florence (Satterly) Place. Fred graduated from Towanda High School Class of 1971 and then graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, being commissioned as an Artillery Officer. His active duty and National Guard/Reserve service totaled 33 years. Throughout his service he served as the Commander of five different Army units, some artillery and some dental, and served overseas missions on 12 different occasions. For a number of years, his dental unit provided care at embassies abroad and participated in numerous humanitarian missions. In addition, his unit participated in many Philadelphia “Stand Downs” in which dental care was provided to veterans, many homeless. Dr. Place attained the rank of Colonel and was awarded the Army’s Legion of Merit upon his retirement. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry, he was in private dental practice for almost 30 years. The vast majority of this time he practiced in Wysox and Canton and in partnership with his brother, Dr. Robert A. Place. Dr. Fred’s dedication to patients, warm personality, and dental skill will always be remembered. Julius E. Putnam, 85, Sayre, formerly of Troy, PA passed away with his beloved wife, Barbara and his step-son, Jim, by his side on Saturday, May 05, 2018 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born on January 5, 1933 in Canton, PA, the son of the late William and Gertrude Wood Putnam. Julius was a graduate of Troy High School. While in school, he was a member of the Troy Drum and Bugle Corps. He was employed with Hall Motor Company Dealership and Paper Magic at one time. Most of his life he was a farmer in the Troy area for various family owned farms. Julius was a man who loved being outdoors, enjoying nature and that is why farming was the job he enjoyed most. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed their coffee hour at the home once a week where everyone would sit around drinking coffee and solving the problems of the world. Julius enjoyed traveling, puzzle books, and going to the casinos. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Troy. He is predeceased by his daughter, Vicki Dudwitt, brother, Dale Putnam, brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Larene Putnam, sister-in-law, Joan Cole, and brothers-in-law, Clarence Baxter and John VanNoy. |
