Richard Paul “Max” Maksimiak, 60, of Sylvania, Pa., passed away on Monday, Apr. 22, 2019 at his home. Max was born on May 26, 1958 in Muncy, Pa., son of the late Harry and Anna Florence (Dudek) Maksimiak. He worked at Serve in Monroeton, Pa., Copper Tree in Troy, Pa., and retired in 2017 form Tygart Beverage Company, Inc. in Troy. Max was a participant in the Life Sharing program from the time it was a pilot program until his passing. He was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Troy after moving to Sylvania. Max was a huge fan of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Glen Campbell as well as the New England Patriots football team. Max enjoyed being with people and never met a stranger; he liked eating out, shopping, and going to concerts. He was known to play practice jokes on the people he loved. Max also loved traveling, from seeing Graceland in Memphis, Tenn. to his trips to Disney World, the White House in Wash., DC, and Niagara Falls.
Jesse T. Moritz, 61, of Canton (LeRoy Township, Pa.), formerly of Warminster, Pa., passed away unexpectedly at home Saturday afternoon, Apr. 6, 2019.
Jesse Taylor was born on May 9, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of Edward Moritz and the late Louise (Lee) Moritz. Louise preceded him in death on Apr. 26, 2012. Following high school graduation, Jesse entered the U.S. Army and was as a MP/dog handler serving two years in Germany until his honorable discharge. Most recently he was employed for several years by Ward Foundry in Blossburg, Pa. Jesse loved the outdoors and fishing, especially ice fishing. He was a member of Canton’s Sons of the American Legion No. 0303 and a Life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 714 also in Canton. Patrick “Timothy” McLaughlin, age 63, of Shunk, Pa., passed away on Monday, Mar. 11, 2019 on Route 414 in Roaring Branch, Pa. He was born on Aug. 21, 1955 in Clearfield, Pa., a son of John McLaughlin and Mary (Elbell) McLaughlin. Tim was the husband of the late Gertrude “Kitty” McLaughlin. He was a water company truck driver and a veteran of the US Navy having served 19 years, including during the Vietnam War. Tim was a member of the American Legion Post #0945 in Canton, Pa. and an NRA member.
Tim is survived by his sisters Paula (Ted) Bowser of Lake Mary, Fla., Susan Hamilton of Trout Run, Pa., Julie (Bob) McDonald of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother Jeremy McLauglin of Canada; several nieces and nephews; three grandchildren Debbie, Dal, Jennifer; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother James McLaughlin and sister Lisa Baker. In keeping with Tim’s wishes, there will be no services. Born in Williamsport, Pa. on Sept. 8, 1942, Judy was the daughter of the late John Frey and Elizabeth “Nellie” (Bolt) Phillips. On Jan. 30, 1984 she married Darren Minthorn in Kingman, AZ. Judy was a very talented crafter and avid reader. She loved the Lord and enjoyed ministering by making greeting cards and prayer blankets for people who were ill or in need of comfort. Judy’s main interest in life was spending time with her family and friends. Judy attended the Mountain View Fellowship Mennonite Church in Bodines. Surviving are her husband Darren Minthorn of Ralston, sons, Gary (Cindy) Black, of Canton, Darryl (Kim) Black, of Ralston, David (LeAnn) “Mick” Black, of Canton, Norman “Corky” (Ellen) Black of Ralston. Step-children, Diana Reasor of Chicago, IL and Dennis Minthorn of Springfield, MO., grandchildren, Corrin Rockwell, Kyle, Rachel, Emily, Alyssa and Nyan Black, step-grandchildren, Zachary, Micah, Vincent, Jennifer and Amber, great-grandchildren, Carson and Stella. A sister, Barbara Miller of Williamsport and special friends, Dennis Austin, Kay Collister and Cindy Clark Black, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sharon Palmer Miller, 77, of 334 State Street in Towanda, Pa. passed away early Friday morning, Jan. 25, 2019. Born and raised in Troy, Pa., Sharon graduated from Troy High School with the class of 1959. Following high school, Sharon worked as an operator at the Commonwealth Telephone Company. On July 16, 1966, she married the love of her life, Michael J. Miller at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Towanda.
Sharon and Mike built their life together in Towanda, raising four children and dedicating themselves to a range of community activities. With a passion for children, Sharon provided day care in their home for nearly a decade, from the early 1970s until about 1981. Sharon delighted in surrounding herself with children and took as much pride in watching her “Mrs. Miller’s kids” grow up as she did in her own children. Sharon eventually returned to work at the Commonwealth Telephone Company where she remained until retiring in February of 1999. Sharon was a devoted member of SS. Peter and Paul Church in Towanda, the Altar and Rosary Society and was an active volunteer and supporter of church activities and events. Most of all, Sharon was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all. She will be remembered for her kind and gracious personality, as well as her homemade baked goods, including English muffin bread, peanut brittle, and strawberry and peach jam. On Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, Rosalyn Lee Mosher of Canton passed away quietly at Robert Packer Hospital. She was 68 years of age. Born in Sayre on Jan. 9, 1951, she was the daughter of Milton and Dorna (Lamont) VanNoy.
Growing up on her family's farm, Rosalyn was familiar with hard work, and developed a strong work ethic. She was employed for many years at the former American Silk Label Co. in Troy. Later, she was a familiar face at the Wysox Dandy Mini Mart. Friendly and helpful, Rosalyn was the kind of person that people took to readily. Virginia L. Murphy, 70 of Liberty, Pa., passed away Jan. 4, 2018, at UPMC Susquehanna Hospital in Williamsport. Born Apr. 5, 1948 in Lancaster, Pa., a daughter of the late Edward Riker Sr. and Betty (Rittenhouse) Taylor.
Her love for family and home came first in Ginny’s life. She was an avid reader, collector of frog memorabilia and will be fondly remembered for being a root beer coinsure. She also loved pink roses and was a member of Liberty's Harvest Family Fellowship. Virginia was employed for several years as a pre-school teacher at the Covington Community Daycare until her retirement. Pamela J. Morgan, Age 55, of Route 14, Troy, Pa., passed away at home with her loving family at her side on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018. Pam was born Nov. 19, 1963 in Troy Pa. daughter of the late LaRue Crandle and Joan (Page) Crandle who survives. She was a graduate of Troy High School Class of 1981. Pam was formerly employed by McDonald’s in Troy. She was a dedicated wife mother and grandmother. In her spare time Pam loved gardening, working around the yard and baking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and going out to dinner with her husband Wade
Virginia L. Morse, 92, of Towanda, Pa., formerly of Leroy Township, passed away Thursday evening Dec. 13, 2018 at Towanda Memorial‘s Skilled Nursing Unit.
Born in Canton, Pa. on May 1, 1926, Virginia “Gin” Palmer was a daughter of the late Paul and Edith (Brooks) Palmer. Love and support for family, home and friends always came first in Virginia’s life. Gin was married to the late Delancey Morse, Jr. She was a hard worker and enjoyed the life of a busy farm wife. Virginia loved all animals, especially horses and was a knowledgeable equestrian. She also grew abundant vegetable gardens and enjoyed canning, sewing and quilting. William H. “Bill” Myers formally of Granville Summit Pa. passed away Nov. 14, 2018 peacefully in Oviedo, Florida where he had been living for the last two years.
Bill was born Feb. 16, 1925 in Brooklyn, N.Y. and relocated to Granville Summit for the natural beauty of the countryside, which he enjoyed for 43 years. Bill is survived by his four sons, eight grandchildren, seven great children and was pre-deceased by his wife of 59 years, Lillian Myers in 2005, and, son, Edward Myers in 2003. He will be remembered as a loving man who dedicated his life to family and country. He was never afraid to voice his opinion on anything. Preferring plain and direct speech, he was a simple man of strong values and convictions, and when he believed in something, it was with his whole heart that he would defend his belief. |
