Clara L. Forbes, 92 years old, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Guthrie - Memorial Skilled Nursing Home. She was born June 29, 1924 to Smith A. and Laura N. (Gillette) Forbes of Myersburg, PA. At a very young age she was stricken with Polio and other medical problems. She was a very talented musician, playing several instruments and piano and gave piano lessons. Clara was a graduate of Towanda High School and attended Mansfield College. She worked and retired from Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory. Following retirement she delivered the Towanda Daily Review for many years. Clara was always active giving tirelessly of herself and expected nothing in return. She enjoyed traveling with her niece Nancy and her husband Ken in their motor home.
On the evening of Sunday, July 24th, 2016, Dolores E. Forman, formerly of Plymouth, Pa., passed away at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital in Towanda. She was 88 years of age.
Born in Plymouth on October 10th 1927, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Stella Suda, and wife of the late Jack Forman. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth and was well known for having a special place in her heart for homeless animals. Dolores is survived by her son, John (& Maureen) Forman, Plymouth; daughter Joanne (& Mick) O'Hara, Canton and granddaughter Grace O'Hara. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters Alice Fretita and Barbara Martin, and husband Jack Forman. Jason Redd officiating.
Debra entered into rest Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her residence. She was a native of Sayre, and had made Aiken County her home for the past 10 years. Debra was the wife of Mr. Paul Reese Falsey and a daughter of the late Mr. Donald Loomis and the late Mrs. Evelyn Beers Loomis. Caleb Fleet of Canton, PA passed away at Hershey Medical Center on Wednesday June 29, 2016. He was 22 years old. Caleb Tyler Fleet, “Scuffy” to family and friends, was born May 29, 1994 in Towanda. He was the son of Jennifer (Atkinson) Florez and Robert Fleet. Caleb leaves a loving and devoted family and many friends who are grieving the loss of this wonderful young man who was just coming into his own. He lived his life full throttle and had interests in many things. Caleb was most passionate about everything to do with being outdoors. He hunted and fished, was a farming enthusiast, camped out and cooked a good campfire meal. Caleb also collected antique stuff, loved fast cars (Mustangs!), liked to wear tie-dye clothes and played his music--loud. John (Jack) Frances Fives, 76, Sayre, PA passed away June 14, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.
He was born October 31, 1939, the son of George Earl and Florence Alshefski Fives, Springfield, PA. John enjoyed playing his guitar and singing, especially with his friends at Page Manor. He loved hiking at Mt. Pisgah Park and at Watkins Glen. In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and doing anything outdoors. John also loved his job at Athens Township and made many close friends while working there as the recycling supervisor. Loretta V. Fitzwater, 76, Canton, PA, was called home to her Savior on Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016 at the Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Loretta Vesta was born April 2, 1939 near Estella in Sullivan County, PA. She was one of six children born to the late Laurence and Jean (McCarty) Higley and also the step daughter of Evelyn Bennett Higley. She was a graduate of Estella High School, class of 1957. On October 26, 1957 she married Philip D. Fitzwater in Estella, PA; they were blessed with 58 years of loving marriage and raised three children. For over 35 years Loretta was employed in the Cafeteria at Canton Area Schools, until retiring in 2001. She was a talented cook and will be remembered for making thousands of cakes for various celebrations throughout the area. Loretta and Phil owned and operated LP Catering Services. In earlier days, she was active with helping serve meals for the 4H Camp at Camp Brule. They also enjoyed running the dinning hall at the Forksville Fair for many years. Thomas John Fritsch, 72, Dushore, Pa., passed away on March 8, 2016 at his home with his loving family at his side.
Tom was born March 7, 1944, a son of the late Carl William and Mary Helen Thayer Fritsch. He graduated from St. Basil's High School, a member of the class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1965 to 1967. Returning home, he married the former Mary Margaret "Mimi" Lang on March 7, 1970. Tom began working for Proctor & Gamble and retired in July of 1997 after 30 years of service. Tom was a member of St. Basil's Church in Dushore and a member of McDermott Post No. 452 American Legion, Mildred, Pa.; the White Ash Land Association; and the Dushore Fire Co. No. 1. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed being with his grandchildren and attending soccer games. He was a Cub Scout leader and also enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in various sports events. He also enjoyed attending the Troy Fair and seeing all the animals. Richard G. "Dick" Foust, Sr. and Doris M. Foust who were married March 25, 1950, shared their love and lives together for 65 years, and have both gone to be with their Lord. Richard G. “Dick” Foust, 84, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 and Doris M. Foust, 81, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Lakeland, FL. Richard was born October 24, 1931 in Windfall, and he and his loving wife moved to Fort Meade, FL from Canton in 1998. He was a truck driver for Swayze Folding Box Co., and both Mr. and Mrs. Foust were of the Church of Christ faith. Mr. Foust was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Canton, and bowling, pool, cards, gardening and racing were his hobbies and pass times. Doris M. Foust was born January 24, 1935 in Grover and was a homemaker for many years. Upon moving to Fort Meade, FL in 1998 with her husband, she became a much loved crossing guard for the students at Lewis Anna Woodbury Elementary School and she also enjoyed being an in-home nursing aid. Mrs. Foust was also a member of the Canton Eastern Star, Red Hatters and Women’s Club. Line dancing and crocheting were two of her favorite things to do in her spare time. On Saturday, February 6th, 2016, former Canton resident Richard G. Foust, Sr., passed away quietly at Lakeland, Fl. He was 84, and was the husband of Dorothy . Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, and have been entrusted to Morse & Kleese Funeral Home. A complete obituary will appear in next week's edition.
On the morning of January 28th, 2016, longtime Canton resident Charles Finogle passed away quietly at Troy Community Hospital. He was 84 years of age.
Born April 28th, 1931 in Dorrance, PA, he was the son of Arthur and Ethel (Baker) Finogle. During his working life Charles was employed as a farm hand in Tioga County and later as an employee of the Canton Borough Street Department. |
