Jack Glenn Brenchley (Oct. 31, 1950 – May 20, 2019) - On May 20, 2019 John (Jack) Brenchley passed into the presence of His Lord, Jesus Christ, after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. John is survived by his wife Kathleen Brenchley, Lynette Hawes (daughter), Rebecca Sleeger (daughter), Amanda Ragsdale (daughter), Anthony Brenchley (son) and 12 grandchildren. Services will be held at Falcon Baptist Church in Falcon, Colo. 11095 Eggar Drive, Falcon, Colo. 80831.
Kimberly Ann (Palmer) Brown, 45, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday morning, Apr. 16, 2019 following a courageous three-year battle with breast cancer that had spread to her lungs and brain. She was born Nov. 3, 1973 in Towanda, Pa., a daughter of Robert “Bob” Eugene Palmer and Kathlene Ann (Kilmer) Best. Kim loved the Canton area and resided there her entire life.
She was a savvy businesswoman, the owner of Kim’s Salon, and a successful cosmetologist in the Canton area for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Canton Moose Lodge and an active member in the Women’s Auxiliary at the Canton American Legion where she started the cancer care packages for local residents battling cancer. Kim was also an active member of the Grover Church of Christ. Her faith deepened while going through personal battles. She loved participating in their Choirs and served others through various supportive roles. Mervin D. "Reelman" Bortner, III, 57, of Troy, PA, passed away on Friday, Mar. 1, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. He was the loving husband of Priscilla L. (Cole) Bortner. The couple married June 5, 1982 and had 36 happy years together.
Mervin was born on Nov. 26, 1961 in Harrisburg, Pa., son of the late Jane E. “Tick” (Emlet) Bortner and Mervin D. Bortner, Jr. of Manheim, Pa. He worked in the warehouse and in plastic molding at Canton Manufacturing and was United Methodist by faith. Mervin was an avid fisherman and hunter but his true passion was collecting antique fishing reels and lures. He belonged to the Old Reels Collectors Association (O.R.C.A.) and the National Fishing Lure Collectors Club (N.F.L.C.C.). Thomas Lyle Byrne, Age 89, of Route 6, Troy, Pa., passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital. Tom was born July 25, 1929 in Langhorne, Pa. and was a graduate of Troy High School. Following graduation he joined the US Army and served his country from 1953 to 1955. He was employed by American LaFrance in Elmira, N.Y. for many years, and later by the Troy School District where he was retired from. He enjoyed coffee with his friends at Troy Lanes and could always be found at lunchtime at the Troy Lunch.
Dan A. Burgess, 68 of Towanda, Pa. (Burlington Township), passed away at Towanda Memorial Hospital on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018. Dan Austin Burgess was born May 23, 1950 in Towanda. He was a son of the late Kasper Bellows, who died when Dan was very young, and the late Ellen (Burgess) Sargeant.
Dan established and operated the Burgess Well Drilling Company near Burlington, Pa. for over 20 years until retiring in 2006. Dan always was an active person with many interests and remained active after retirement. He also sold Kioti and Simplicity Tractors, Old Hickory Sheds and Carports. He especially loved to visit with family and friends. In earlier years, Dan played guitar in a band and also played in Nashville for a time. He enjoyed tinkering and drag racing. He was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witness Church in Towanda where he was baptized in 1985. On Apr. 9, 1988, he married the former Ileen Lewis in Towanda. Sylvia A. Beyer, 81 of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa. (Columbia Twp.), passed away unexpectedly at home while surrounded by loved ones on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018.
Born Aug. 26, 1937 in Kulpsville, Pa.; Sylvia, “Syl” to family and friends, was a daughter of the late Markley M. and Amy (Miles) Ruth. She was a graduate of Collegeville – Trapp High School. Sylvia married Donald Beyer, Jr. on Oct. 29, 1955 in Skippack. Love for family and friends came first in Syl’s life. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she especially enjoyed traveling, camping, playing golf, square dancing, cross stitch and making latch hook rugs; she was indeed a multi-talented crafter. In earlier years, Syl was drawn to the arts and acting. She loved her involvements with the Playcrafters and Skippack Threatre groups. During the first few minutes of Tuesday, Sept, 25, 2018, Kenneth Eugene Brown of Canton passed away unexpectedly at Troy Community Hospital. He was 66 years of age. Born Apr. 26, 1952 in Troy, he was the son of James D. Walburn and Susie Brown.
Kenny was a man blessed with a strong work ethic. Throughout his adult life, he was a tractor-trailer driver, construction worker and a farm hand until a disability necessitated his early retirement. Kenny was a quiet man with the patience of a saint. He made friends easily and was always ready for some good-natured ribbing. He was also fond of sports on television. Among his favorites were Yankees baseball, Giants football and NASCAR. He was an avid fan of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. On the morning of September 24, 2018, Rita E. Bustin passed quietly into eternal rest at the Robert Packer Hospital surrounded by family and a dear friend Patricia Benson.
Rita was born April 27, 1930 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY to James F. and Mary M. McKee Bustin. She spent her early youth in Lowman, NY where her parents farmed and in the late 1930’s the family moved to Troy, PA where they owned and operated a farm until 1969. Rita was a graduate of Troy High School in the class of 1947 and soon after she secured her first position in the working world at the Berlinger Silk Mill in Towanda. She remained at Berlinger’s until the mill was destroyed by a fire. After the Berlinger fire she returned to Troy and worked as a telephone operator for the Commonwealth Telephone Company, after which she was employed by Dr. George Lopatofsky as a dental assistant in his practice in Troy. In 1969, after the death of her father, Rita, her mother, and sister Mary moved to Towanda. In Towanda Rita worked for Dr. Nicholas O. Prusack in his dental practice and later secured employment with the Commonwealth Telephone Company as an operator she held that position until Commonwealth decided to close their Towanda office after an employee strike. Rita spent the last ten years of her working career in the employment of Dr. Bart Young in his optometry office. After retirement she and the Young’s remained close friends. Shirley Ann Teribury Brown of Clover, SC died September 10, 2018 in Pennsylvania.
Memorial service was 3:00 pm, Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Crowders Creek ARP Church, Gastonia, NC conducted by the Rev. Stuart Fowler. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 1:30 to 3:00 pm before the service. Mrs. Brown was born April 26, 1938 in East Troy, to the late Earl Elra and Mae Dunbar Teribury. She was the widow of Gerald Royce Brown and was preceded in death by her brother Earl E. Teribury, Jr and three sisters: Marie McClure, Janice Young, and Carolyn Welch. Valerie M. Benjamin (Bailey) passed at home with family after a long battle with cancer on September 6th, 2018 in Troy, at the age of 69. Valerie is survived by daughter Laurie (Benjamin) Brown and son in law Michael Brown of Columbia Cross Roads, Son John B Benjamin Jr of Gillett, Daughter Tressa (Benjamin) Brown of Gillett; Grandchildren Maureen House (Michael Putnam) of Troy, Bryant House of Columbia Crossroads, Kody Benjamin (Mikayla Bristol) of Troy, Chase Brown (Kendra Lathrop) of Gillett, Kendra Benjamin(Wesley Utter) of Gillett, Aaren Brown of Columbia Cross Roads; Great granddaughter Aubrey Greene. Sister Marcia Larson of Durango, CO, niece Tina Garrison Maier of Lewisburg, PA, loved as a daughter Sherri Newman of Rome, PA and Angela Martin of Troy. She is preceded in death by Husband John B Benjamin Sr, Mother Mary Josephine Bailey of East Troy, Brother Robert Bailey of Troy, Special Aunt Jessie Hawthorne and Uncle Robert Hawthorne of Canton and beloved dog Benji |
