Born August 18th, 1929 in Ether, North Carolina, he was the son of Elijah and Eulla Sheffield. He served our country with the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and was a POW survivor. After twenty years in the Navy Mr. Sheffield retired as a Chief Petty Officer.
The mechanical engineer training that he received in the service served him well in his civilian employment with Dow Chemical Co. He was married to the former Leona Lessard, and together they raised six children at their Canterbury, CT home. For many years he served faithfully with the VFW, as well as other leadership positions in Connecticut. He was a well known member of his community who loved to be outside working in the garden and watching the birds. Later, he retired to Grover.
He was preceded in death by his brother Larry and sister Polly.
