“Bill” as he was known by his family and friends was born in Towanda, Pa. on May 2, 1951, the son of Thomas Frank Welch and Pauline McNeal Welch. He was a graduate of Troy High School with the class of 1969. Bill was employed by Kennedy Valve in Elmira, N.Y. for 15 years and by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for five years. He was a graduate of Lackawanna Community College where he pursued his goal in becoming a paramedic. Bill was deeply devoted to his profession as a paramedic for a total of 25 years having been associated with Towanda Memorial Hospital EMS, Western Alliance EMS, Lackawanna ALS and volunteered with numerous area emergency medical services over the years.
Bill enjoyed the outdoors, maintaining his property, playing cards, Penn State football and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers. Bill’s family includes his wife of 48 years, Judith Anne Glossenger Welch whom he married on Nov. 28, 1970 at the East Troy Baptist Church, his son, William F. Welch Jr. and husband, Michael McGuire of Binghamton, N.Y., daughter, Misty B. Coolbaugh and husband Kevin Coolbaugh of Wysox, Pa., sister, Patricia W. Hoover and husband Kenny Hoover of Towanda, Pa., brothers, George L. Welch and wife, Elaine Welch of Ulster, Pa., Kenneth L. Welch of Towanda, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his canine companions, Mya and Phoebee.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home 217 York Ave. Towanda, Pa.
