William Frances Chagnon (Bill) 70, Marana, AZ, passed away March 17, 2016 after a battle with cancer.
Bill was born on March 2, 1946 in Winooski, VT to the late Alexander and Lucille Chagnon Sr., Canton.
Bill enlisted in the United States Navy right after graduating from high school and was a USN-Vietnam, USNR/Marana, AZ. He served four years of active duty and 14 years reserve.
He married Claire Glover on September 21, 1968. They moved from Bangor, PA to Marana, AZ where he had a landscaping company. He was instrumental in starting the VFW Post 5990 in Marana, AZ. He served as VFW Department of Arizona State Commander, VFW Post 5990 Commander, Service Officer and many other positions.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Claire; son Charles Chagnon, Marana, AZ; brother, Alexander (Sheila) Chagnon Jr., Baker, FL; six sisters, Lucille (William) Breault, Colchester, VT, Theresa (Francis) Jacques, Pittsfield, MA, Judith (James) Mahana, Mesquite, TX, Delina (Lynn) Morgan, Granville, PA, Sharon (John) Mulno, Canton, PA, Annie (Ralph) Buskirk, Towanda and numerous nieces, nephews.
He was predeceased not only by his parents Alexander and Lucille Chagnon Sr., but also a sister, Elaine Chagnon.
He was laid to rest on March 28, 2016 at the Arizona Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Marana, AZ.
He was honored by the Patriot Guard Riders.
The family will be having a memorial service at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Washington St., Canton, on April 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.
