Thuryl Dean Buck

6/17/2016

On the evening of Friday, June 17th, 2016, Canton resident Thuryl Dean Buck went home to be with the Lord while at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.  He was 89 years of age.           Born March 25th, 1927 in Ellenton, he was the son of Fred and Jeanetta (Kyler) Buck.  Known to family and friends as Dean, he attended the East Canton schoolhouse, and later Canton High School.   He served our country with the U. S. Army during World War II as an expert rifleman.  After returning home Dean married his high school sweetheart, Marcella Carl, and together they shared seventy years and raised two sons and three daughters.
Dean was a man who possessed a strong work ethic and always knew how to provide for his family.  Throughout his adult life he worked as a farmer, a logger, a truck driver, and for a brief 9 year stretch, worked as a railroad track man along the Elmira division of the Pennsylvania RR until the flood of 1972 put the line out of commission once and for all.
In earlier years  Dean enjoyed building and racing stock cars and Dragsters with his dad and three brothers.   Later in life he enjoyed the simple pleasure of the company of family and friends.
Dean was a man with an insurmountable faith in the Lord, and was an active member of  God’s Missionary Church in New Columbia.  He lived his faith on a daily basis, and when the Lord took his hand Friday evening, Dean followed.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Marcella, at home,  sons Stanley (Connie) Buck of Covington and Kevin (Pauline) Buck of Temple, PA,   daughters Hope (& Jake) Fries of Laceyville.  Penny Kilmer and Kathy (& Bill) Page, brother-in-law Dave Matthews, Jr., all of Canton,  sister-in-law Eloise Caseman of Shunk,  12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers Herman, Elson and Mark Buck, and sisters Leona Wilcox, Beulah Messener and Shirley Matthews.
In accordance with Dean’s wishes there will be no public calling hours or services.  His family will hold a private service at Morse & Kleese Funeral Home, followed by interment in East canton Cemetery.   The family suggests that contributions in Dean’s memory be directed to God’s Missionary Church, 852 Ridge Road, New  Columbia, PA, 17856.
