Thomas was born on September 26, 1952 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Dr. Stephen Aldrich and Dolores (Bunell) Aldrich, formerly of Kensington, MD and his late stepmother, Betty (Sangston) Aldrich.
Tom was a kind and gentle person, well liked and respected by everyone who knew him. During his life, Tom loved nature. He worked or volunteered anywhere that brought him closest to what he cherished most, including Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring and the National Zoo in Washington, DC. Tom appreciated the beauty of flowers, especially orchids, and the fascinating nature of the cheetah. When diagnosed with cancer, he maintained his positive outlook and was an inspiration to many.
