Born November 24, 1943 in Canton, Steven Charles “Smitty” Smith was a son of the late Malcolm and Rowena (Benedict) Smith.
He was a 1961 graduate of Canton High School. On June 5, 1964, Steve married the former Connie Watkins in the Ogdensburg Church.
He was employed by Paxar Co. in Sayre until retiring in 2007. In earlier years Steve worked at Swayze’s in Canton and then Masonite in Towanda. He was a member of Ogdensburg’s Church of Christ.
An accomplished bowler, Steve enjoyed participating in several area leagues. He was a die-hard Yankees and Cowboys fan. Steve also was a knowledgeable handy-man. Times spent with his family and especially his grandchildren gave him great happiness.
Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Connie; sons; Jeff (LaVonna) Smith, Canton, Rod Smith, Montoursville and Rick (Michelle) Smith, Roaring Branch; grandchildren; Stephanie, Deanna, Heather, Alex, Lacey, Brandon, Justin and Zack; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend and neighbor; Chuck Groover, Canton. Also his faithful dog, Keesha.
Pastor Dan Walker officiated a memorial service celebrating Steve’s life at the Ogdensburg Church of Christ, Oct. 7.
Burial was in Ogdensburg Cemetery at a later date.
Pepper Funeral Home, Canton assisted his family with arrangements.
