Ruby I. Conley, 96, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Elcor Nursing Home. She was born on December 6, 1919, in Boone, NC, the 6th of 16 children born to Millard and Zora (Moretz) Castle. Ruby grew up in Canton. She worked at Remington Rand, Westinghouse, Kennedy Valve, and as a CNA at St. Joseph's Hospital. Her leisure time was spent gardening, reading, spending time with her family, and attending church functions.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Robert) Rudko of Holliston, MA; her son Edward 'Larry' (Arta) Conley of Carlisle, PA; grandchildren Susan (Glenn) Listman of Haltom City, TX; Rebecca (Dan) Ballinger of Franklin, MA; Lance Conley of Fairfax, VA; great children Lauren, Isabel, and Jason Ballinger. Also surviving are her siblings Edna Groover, Alfred Castle, Millard Castle Jr; many nieces, nephews.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Edward L. Conley in 1975 and her siblings: Edith Cole, Lola Stanbery, Mabell Avery, Shirley Metzger, Eva Ice Govus, Violet Jankowski, Lela Smith; and brothers James, Benjamin, Claude, Arnold, and Frankie. Also, Kenneth Hughes, a special, long-time companion.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Cindy Sheran, Cheryl Apgar, Pastor Crupi and church members, CareFirst staff, and Elcor for Ruby's support and care.
A memorial Service will be held at 12:00 on Thursday, January 21, at her church: Christian Faith Fellowship Church, 719 Holdridge St., Elmira, NY 14904 with Reverend James Crupi officiating. The family will receive friends and family at 11:00 am until time of the service. A luncheon will follow. The family will provide flowers and suggest donations be given to her church.
