Ronald Archie Carey was born on May 24, 1935 in Blossburg, PA, a son of the late Archie Carey, Marjorie (Jackson) Carey Gardener and stepfather, Wayne Gardener.
After attending Canton’s Ogdensburg School, Ron served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed his life-long career as a logger and subcontracted with several area lumber companies before retiring in 2007.
He married the former Carol Ann Lathrop on May 14, 1988.
Ron possessed an engaging, friendly manor; when he offered someone a “little picking” his big smile let you know he enjoyed the conversation. He was an avid bowler, loved nature and being outdoors, especially while hunting, fishing or gardening. He was a member of Morris Run’s American Legion Post 167 and Triple Beech Hunting Club.
Surviving are his wife Carol Ann; two stepchildren, Bonnie (Anthony) DeFelice of Canton and Burr Spencer (Sheila Gregory) of Binghamton, NY; four grandchildren, Michelle Rowe and Stephanie, Jennifer and Melissa DeFelice; three sisters, Joan Kehres of Roaring Branch, Susan (John) Heyler of Morris and Judith Bergenstock of Lock Haven; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Blair.
The funeral was held May 6, at Pepper Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Duane Taylor officiating
Burial was in Ogdensburg Cemetery at a later date.
