Robert Larue, “Bob” to family and friends was born July 13, 1939 in Sayre, PA. He was one of four sons of the late Carl Kay and Eleanor Mae (Wallace) Smith. Bob graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1958 and later served our country in the U.S. Army.
On April 24, 1966, he married the former Beverly Groover in Ogdensburg’s Church of Christ. Bob was employed by the former Schrader Bellows/Parker Hannifin Company in Canton for many years and retired as their Controller.
Always one to keep busy, he later worked at Canton’s Baldwin’s Hardware part time and had several yard care and snow removal jobs.
Bob was a 50-year member and former board member of the Western Alliance Ambulance Association. He also was a member of Canton’s Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) and the American Legion Lodge 303.
He bowled for several years in the Chemung Canal Bank League. He had many interests and hobbies but family always came first in Bob’s life. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, spending time on the mountain and going 4-wheeling.
He also was an avid fisherman and hunter, played a tough game of basketball with his grandkids and made delicious homemade ice cream, fudge and holiday goodies. Bob especially loved traveling and realized a life-long dream in 2014 when for his 75th birthday he and his son traveled several western states and bagged an Elk in Utah.
