He was born on February 21, 1933, in Eagles Mere, Sullivan County, the son of Robert Lee Crawley, Sr. and Letha R. Tomlin. Robert was a 1950 graduate of Canton High School and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Marie Corps, enlisting on January 25, 1951 and honorably discharged on January 24, 1954, serving in the Korean War. He then enrolled in Shippensburg University, graduating in 1958, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
Working as a History and English teacher, Robert taught in Delaware, New York, California, and Texas. He also worked as a civilian for the Army at Letterkenny Army Depot in Logistics Support Activity, for five years, in Germany for ten years, and in Virginia for one year, retiring in 1993. Robert was also a minister for the Four Square Pentecostal Church in Haskell, TX and Greencastle, PA.
He enjoyed American and military history, reading, traveling, animals, and spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Shirley Pugh Crawley, whom he married on December 11, 1974; twin children, Kelly Jo (Gary) Kitzmiller, Orrstown and Kevin James (Svetlana) Crawley, Ft. Worth, TX; three daughters, Julia (Gary) Izer, Orrstown, Sheryl (Allan) Perkins, Shippensburg, and Holly (Jessie) James of Orrstown; fourteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great grandchildren.
His funeral services, entrusted to the Foglesanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., will be private. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Interment will occur in the Pleasant Hall Cemetery at a later date.
