Robert Burleigh Roof, 84, Wysox, Standing Stone Township, passed away November 10, 2016 at his home following declining health.
Robert was born in Towanda, on November 8, 1932 the son of Burleigh Lee Roof and Effie Whipple Roof. He was a graduate of Towanda High School Class of 1953 and in early years was employed by several area farms.
Robert was a well-known general contractor operating his building and remodeling business for 40 years until retirement.
Robert was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda, Wysox-Sheshequin Grange No. 58, the Relax Square Dancing Club of Elmira, NY, the PEN-NY Promenaders Square Dance Club of Sayre, and in prior years served as a 4-H Leader. Robert and his wife Mary Jane proudly served as foster grandparents for many years. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and caring for his animals on the family farm.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Whipple Roof; children, Bryan Keith Roof and wife, Bea, Litchfield, Robert Lee Roof (Crystal Hunsinger), Standing Stone, Dawn Marie Stump and husband Tom, Standing Stone, Tara Jane Roof (Jamie Castle), Canton, Kaitlyn Marie Ann Roof, Standing Stone, Katrina Joleen Roof, Standing Stone, Joni Gray and husband Gene, Jacksonville, FL, Jani Ridenour and husband Tony, Wyalusing, 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Ella Mae Lundy, Towanda, Sarah Cornell and husband Thomas, Binghamton, NY, Joanne King and husband Roy Jr., Natchaz, MS; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Shanise Bennett, great granddaughter, Emma Nevaeh Robinson, daughter-in-law, Stacy Marie Roof and sister, Dorothy Jane Taylor.
A memorial service was hled November 15, at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, Towanda, PA with Rev. Canon Maureen AtLee Hipple, Rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda, officiating.
