Richard was born on April 4, 1931, a son of the late Herman and Hazel (Garnant) Ayres in Granville Township. On June 14, 1958, he married the love of his life, Marlene Rockwell Ayres, at the Hornbrook United Methodist Church, Hornbrook.
He loved racing. He would race stock cars, motorcycles — pretty much anything that had an engine in it, he would race it. He grew up working the family farm and drove his own milk truck. Richard also worked at Kennedy Valve from 1964-1994, retiring after 30 years.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Rockwell Ayres, on July 12, 2017; infant son, Raymond Ayres; parents, Herman and Hazel (Garnant) Ayres; infant sister and brother, Mariam and Duane Ayres; sister, Carolyn Knight; and brother, Robert Ayres.
A memorial service and celebration of Richard’s life will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the Lakeside Pavilion at Mt. Pisgah State Park.
