Ray H. Chaapel, 84 of Grover, PA peacefully passed away at his daughter, Kitrina’s, home with his loving family by his side on the morning of December 28th, 2018.
Preceding Ray were his parents, his wife Paula A. Chaapel, his sister Marie Hoyels and his brothers, Vick George, and Fred Chaapel. Surviving Ray are his children, Ray H. Chaapel Jr. of Monroe, NC, Kitrina M. Chaapel of Macungie, PA, Kelli L. Chaapel of Lehighton, PA, his grandchildren Sebastian R. Rivera of Macungie, PA, Brianna N. Rivera of Corvallis, OR, Brittany L. Chaapel of Altoona, PA, great grandchildren Landon P. Bass of Altoona, PA, Elliana F. Barnes of Altoona, PA, his brother Stanley Chaapel of Canton, PA, his sister Pauline Chaapel of Canton, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

Ray was born in Sayre, PA on July 22nd, 1934, the son of Burr Chaapel and Hellen Carter Chaapel. Ray served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1962 and is a veteran of the Korean war. Following his time in the service, Ray worked several years as a carpenter and in the strip mines for Jones and Brague. Ray was full of life and enjoyed keeping active with a number of hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, gardening, inventing gadgets, and tinkering on his mousetraps. When he wasn’t keeping busy with his various hobbies, Ray could be found dancing or going on adventures with his family. Affectionately known as “Pop” by his grandchildren, Ray has touched the hearts of many and was known for his smile that could light up a room.
The service will take place at North Union Christian Church 15520 Rt. 414 Grover, PA on January 5th, 2018. Family visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by the funeral service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with Pastor Duane Taylor officiating, and a military service at LeRoy Cemetery directly following the service.
