Phylis Kay, “Phil” was born December 1, 1940 in Montrose. She was one of 12 sisters of the late Harvey S. and Katheryn L. (Whalen) Winans. Phylis graduated from Montrose High School in 1956.
She married the love of her life, Gilbert Barrier, on June 7, 1958 and shared 59 wonderful years before his passing on Nov. 25, 2017. Phil worked for many years as an aide and caregiver, most recently at the Bradford County Manor. She also worked at Eureka in Troy.
She was a member of Canton’s Seventh Day Adventist Church. Phylis’ love and faith in the Lord guided her through life. Though she had red hair, sometimes a bit of a temper and possessed a “spit-fire” attitude, her convictions and strong morals grew from her testifying to the strength of His word. Phylis enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking and being outdoors. She will be remembered for helping anyone in need and loving to sing.
Surviving are daughter, Kimberly Quackenbush, Columbia Cross Roads; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several sisters and many nieces, nephews, cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at the family’s convenience.
