Max Spencer of Midway, GA, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, April 2, 2018.
Max was born in 1934, and was the son of Douglas and Melissia Spencer of Austinville, Pa. He was a 1952 graduate of Troy High School, where he played football and sang in the Advanced Glee Club.
He is survived by his son, John D. Spencer (Cindi); daughter, Jana Spencer Smolinski; brother, Randall Spencer (Norma); grandchildren, Joshua D. Spencer and Christopher K. Spencer (Kristen); and Great-grandchild, Connor J. Spencer.

Max served 4 years in the US Navy and 22 years in the US Air Force. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Among other awards in his career, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Subsequent to the Air Force, Max worked for Gulfstream for 12 years before retiring. In 1987, Max was a member of a team that flew the Gulfstream IV around the world in a record setting 45 hours 25 mins.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 27, the American Legion Riders and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
A service was held at the Richmond Hill Funeral Home, Richmond Hill, GA, April 8. Following the service, Max was interred at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors featuring Air Force Honor Guards.
He was an active member of the American Legion Post 27, the American Legion Riders and the Gold Wing Road Riders Association.
