Mary Manley Henson, 95, of Athens, formerly of Towanda, and Sarasota, FL, passed away Nov. 9, 2015 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda.
Mary was born on December 14, 1919 in Granville Summit, the daughter of Taylor and Elnora Leiby Manley. Having lost her mother at an early age, Mary spent her childhood growing up in Granville Center where she was raised by her loving aunt, Belle Manley. Mary was a graduate of Troy High School class of 1937 and following high school was employed by the Troy Hotel. On Sept. 26, 1941 she married Carl A. Henson in Coryland, PA. Mary was formerly employed by the Eclipse in Elmira, NY, Sylvania Electric in Towanda and Herr's Dairy Bar in Towanda.
Her family includes children, Kathryn Henson Bryan and husband Warren, Punta Gorda, FL, Carol Henson with whom she resided in Athens, Roger Henson and wife Linda Rose, Towanda; granddaughter, Stephanie Bump, Sayre; great-grandsons, Sgt. Daniel Paul Bump, U.S. Marine Corps and wife Lesha of Vernon, CT, Garry Lee Weed Jr., Sayre; great-great-grandson, Chase Daniel Bump of Vernon, CT; step great-great-granddaughter, Taylor Yoder, Vernon, CT; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Carl A. Henson on April 6, 1997; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Grace Manley, Sam and Elizabeth Manley, Walter and Helen Manley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fran and LaVere Noble and Kathryn and William MacRonald.
A graveside service was held November 11, at Bradford County Memorial Park, Burlington Township, with Rev. Robert Martin officiating.
The family suggests that contributions may be directed to Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd., Towanda, PA 18848, in Mary's memory. Arrangements were under the direction of the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, Towanda.
