On Monday, April 10th, 2017, lifelong Roaring Branch resident Marguerite Mae (Stickler) Leonard passed away quietly at the Sherwood Retirement and Personal Care Home in Canton.  She was 98 years of age.  Born January 26th, 1919 in Roaring Branch, she was the daughter of Ray and Nina (Bunn) Stickler.  Marguerite was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 1936, and attended Mansfield State College.  She was the widow of the late Leslie S. Leonard, with whom she raised four children and shared 63 years until his passing in 2001.  In addition to being a mother and home maker, Mrs. Leonard served her community as she  pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 37 years, all of which was spent at Troy Community Hospital.   She was an avid reader as well as a baseball and football fan.  She was known for her peanut butter fudge which she always made for the annual bazaar at the Newelltown United Methodist Church, as well as the beautiful afghans she crocheted.  Mrs. Leonard further displayed her generosity by knitting  caps for newborns, making  quilts for her children and grandchildren, making granny squared ponchos for their first day of school and knitting hats and mittens for the children in the Head Start program.
She is survived by her four children,  Allyn (& Ada) Leonard  of Roaring Branch,  Byron (& Sylvia) Leonard of Wellsboro, June (& David) Hottenstein of New Albany and Thomas (& Sue) Leonard of Columbia Cross Roads,  11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, special friends Patty and Linette Baker and Eleanor Wooster,  and her cocker spaniel, Cookie.   In addition to her husband, Leslie, she was preceded in death by her brother, Byron Stickler and sisters Margaret and Marcella Stickler.
The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Karen Sherwood and her staff for the kind, loving care they provided for Marguerite.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 13th, at Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, 94 N. Center Street, Canton, with services at 11 o’clock.  Interment will follow in Stull Cemetery.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Green Free Library,  38 N. Center Street, Canton Pa., 17724, or to the Newelltown United Methodist Church, PO Box 66, Ralston, Pa, 17763.  (morseandkleesefuneralhome.com)
